Every year, at my wife’s parents’ house, we make mochi (Japanese rice cakes). I shot this video hoping to capture the scenery of the Japanese countryside.
Nowadays we use a traditional cooking stove (kamado) to cook the rice, and a stone mortar to make the mochi.
These scenes show the daily life of the past’s Japanese families.
In latter half video we make green mochi. This is called ‘yomogimochi.’ ‘Yomogi’ is a kind of medicinal plant grown all over Japan (in English, Yomogi is called the Japanese mugwort, among other names. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemis.... Mixing mashed ‘yomogi’ together with mochi creates a beautiful green colour and delightfully unique taste.
People enjoy eating mochi drizzled with syrup of mixed sugar and soy sauce, or by wrapping it in nori (dried and seasoned seaweed).
