I trained this way with my Sensei back in the early 90’s prior to his passing and even to this day train my good student this way. Karate is not about the fighting but about the life you lead and will pass to others.

To the people criticizing the push ups here: These push ups are being done AFTER a period of VIGOROUS training, NOT before! Some of you claim to have trained in martial arts in the 70s. If you did, you would not be so critical of the push ups being done here AFTER having your arms fatigued with Punch and Block drills.
@Wrkumlin
@Wrkumlin 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry... i do full pushups, almost nose touching the floor. One guy there never bent his elbows, just moved his ass up and down. Yes, I will criticize. As a black belt in my dojo, we must be able to do 50+ push-ups. Granted they are being done here after a period of workout. However, that doesn’t give them the opportunity to not do them correctly. Most of them were pathetic.
@TheUmmahFightCamp

@@Wrkumlin : I am a black belt under the pioneer of full contact karate and one of the fighters in the famous kick boxing match between Jeff Smith and Karriem "Allah". I am the last black belt under Karreim. Of only 16 because the sparring was so heavy. I know what black belts look like. Of course you can say what you want, but we used to train for 2 hours with no water breaks. Doing push ups on the knuckles AFTER a old school work out is not easy. Should some of their push ups been better, sure, but your claim that they should be so easy AFTER training I personally know is BS. Impossible, no, but very difficult.
@Wrkumlin
@Wrkumlin 5 жыл бұрын
TheUmmahFightCamp Congratulations on your achievements. Very impressive. However, I didn’t say it should be easy. But someone lifting their ass instead of bending their elbows after that amount of training time shows a lack of ability to do a proper push-up. My guess is that even before training, his push-ups would have been unimpressive. Even after being tired out, I still do mine properly. Did you just lift your ass after your training? I would hope not.
@TheUmmahFightCamp
@TheUmmahFightCamp 5 жыл бұрын
@@Wrkumlin : If I judged everyone by my standards, very few people would be black belts. After 2 hours of drills and sparring where full power to the body was allowed and light contact to the head with no water to be taken, I am not sure if I could have done more than 20 push ups! Perhaps SOME could have done them better, but I do not see a lack of effort on behalf of everyone.
@Wrkumlin
@Wrkumlin 5 жыл бұрын
TheUmmahFightCamp By the way, I don’t believe I deserved a black belt when it was awarded to me. Years later, I now believe I have truly earned it, however, I have never competed in open kumite. My personal reason for training is fitness and discipline. It is, after all, self ‘Defense’. There should be a universal standard and I know that there is a cultural view put on things like this. I know some people that have come from Russia to North America and have commented on how long they spent in each belt versus how long we trained. It was much longer. A black belt should have a standard everywhere, no matter where you earn it.

I realize new things about my body now that I'm training I used to be so unhappy and most of the times especially on my device as a 12 year old. But now since I found this I am happy because I can take my body out and something and it will help my mom too. It's no joke I take this serious. Sometimes she has to tell me to relax

Ugh I'm 47, out of shape and have been doing karate for almost 3 years, and kicks my butt every single time. But it's good for me because normally I have borderline high blood pressure, and because of the exercise now it has dropped down significantly. And so has my resting heart rate 👍👍
@Wrkumlin
@Wrkumlin 5 жыл бұрын
Plen122 Did the same for me. I had a 54 resting heart rate in high school playing hockey. I’ve got it back down to that in my 50’s just from the karate workouts and training (plus some biking in between).

Ahhhh, finally an IOGKF recognised MASTER! When I met this man, the was ZERO smile, ZERO tolerance, ZERO forgiveness ....when attacked by 3 opponents (2nd kyu), they could not land a single strike over approx 2 minutes....without a single counter-attack from him ...you had to be there.... wherever their strikes were, he wasn't.... However: *This video shows NONE of that Goju Ryu Mastery:* Nobody wants to see the ACTUAL WORK that it takes to become proficient. They want to see PROFICIENCY, EXPERTISE!

So much of the talk about push-ups is completely uninformed. Firstly a lot of these karateka are not young men (age is a great leveller as my wife says). Secondly you can tell the guys are already ragged - look at the sweat on the dogis. Doing the blocking 3 times is more difficult than it looks and saps energy - this is traditional Karate. Thirdly there is no air conditioning and if there was it would be turned off lol. Fourthly most of these guys have probably been told to destroy yourself in the first 30 minutes and continue with the class on fumes because although this is not good for form it's amazing how tired you become in a street fight after initial adrenaline has gone (60 sec if you are very fit} . Honestly you young people, lol
