Morning Glory Surfing 2013

Beautiful images from our 2013 trip to Burketown, Far North Queenland, Australia. The Morning Glory roll cloud is found here in September/October. The magical phenomenon attracts sailplanes, hang gliders and other aircraft from around Australia.

I think this is the best actual "morning glory" cloud video (as opposed to a video slide show of still images) on the Internet...paring the video with Pachelbel's Canon doesn't hurt, either! Beautiful! Thank you!

This must be the best amateur (self-filmed and self-edited) video I have ever seen. The musical composition goes so well with the images, it's incredible. The intro is just perfect. The recognisable, but not unprofessional font of the title shot fits nicely with some sneak-peak images of the searched phenomenon we are expecting and desiring to see in motion picture. It prevents us from clicking away or skipping ahead of the video, because we see the boring first sight of a landing ground and a lamppost illuminating the morning fog and giving the viewer a clue about the weather and earliness of the day. At this point the music has mesmerised us, and it would be uncomfortable to interrupt such a nice arrangement of sounds for some clouds. The next intermittent shot shows us a beautiful view of the sun rising over a meandering river. The stance of the sun and the shadow on the cloud gives us an element enabling us to judge the relative time and duration of filming. The shot of the film maker and pilot at 1:19 is not only adorable but a nice 'now I know whos video I'm watching' moment as well. It is such a relive to get to hear the sound of the cockpit at 1:58, and the volume is just to loud to be comfortable, but then a relieve of music kicks in at 2:30 a we are happy to have enjoyed some more realistic sounds to the situation and getting a closer view of the cockpit in the meantime. At 2:38 we get a bit of sound of the cockpit, but at a lower volume, not unnecessary interrupting the music violently a second time and reminding us again of what they heard. The happy end gives the video its finishing touch. It is a joy to see what a great morning these pensioners have had and makes me look forward to what things I can do when I'm retired.

Marc Op den Kamp Hi Marc, thanks for the great compliments about my video, I'm glad that people appreciate it. I hope you manage to fly in the Morning Glory one day, it is hard to make it happen, Burketown is a long way from anywhere, and the Glory is not always reliable. It is the most magical experience!
