US sharemarkets ended Friday’s session at record highs, with the latest jobs figures suggesting the US Fed could have the opportunity to cut interest rates later this year. The Dow Jones index rose 68 points or 0.2%, the S&P 500 index gained 30 points or 0.5% and the Nasdaq index rose 164 points or 0.9%, with the latter two indices closing at new record highs. Over the course of the week the Dow rose 0.7%, the S&P500 improved by 1.9% and the Nasdaq gained 3.5%. On Friday, tech names featured prominently in the winners circle; Meta +5.8%, Advanced Micro Devices +4.9%, Intel +2.5%, Apple +2.2%. US gold names were well supported, with the yellow metal hitting its highest levels in more than a month; gold miner Newmont rose 2.4%. Resmed shares found support gaining 2.8% in US trade, with the shares having fallen almost 14% in recent months. The maker of sleep apnea devices is set to report Q4 earnings on 1 August. For the week, Autos led S&P500 sector gains with a 23% rise. The improvement reflects a recent winning streak for Tesla, that pushed shares in the EV maker 27% higher last week, after investors took heart from its second quarter deliveries report.
