Late Night, Maudlin Street still brings streaks of tears upon my face to this day. When I was 20 years old (1990), I went through some difficult times. I was very near suicide and used to hurt myself as a way of crying out. Lost my grandma who was like a mother to me. I grew up in a house for the first 14 years of my life and I had many memories in that house. Usually it was just myself and my grandma always together in that house. Well, for some reason, this song made me think of her and that stupid little house and I would just lose it. I don't know what it is about that song, but it just juxtaposes my life even to this day. Still can't hear it without feeling emotions. Damn...

Sad story. He does mention a gran dying in the song, and the idea of moving away from a childhood home is what the song is about.

Meh. I disagree .Wrote a very appealing demigod narrative . Some larger than life type stuff. The cynic would say a cult of personality. Brass tacks though “queen is dead’ & meat is murder are some iconic , brilliant albums. Could we get a smiths reunion. Enough already. Somebody make this happen, please.

to me .. The Smiths are a band in their own... Morrisey is a band in his own .. two separate entities ..

This was his debut solo album (late 80s), after being with the band The Smiths. It is still, today, one of his very best in his solo career, and canon.

Good songs as always, somewhat marred by the drums being mixed so loud ... it was the 80's, I guess.
