Morryde Step Above RV Steps - Installation, Review & What You Need to Know Before Buying! There are some things you should know before buying & using this style of step. This video will show you how to install them, we will give you our review of them, and we will tell you what you need to know to avoid inconveniences and possible damage to your travel trailer, 5th wheel, or motorhome -RVTT
⚠ UPDATE: 1 disadvantage of this style of step not mentioned in the video is that if they are wet or very dirty, drying or cleaning them off is a good idea before closing them. They do go in your RV after all.
👉Here is a link to the Morryde qualifier to ensure which steps fit your RV. Select the StepAbove product line and the site will eventually take you to a qualifier to source the correct size. I cant link directly to the qualifier so you will have to get there through navigating their site:

The leveling concepts were huge! My rig does not self level and there is a lot of adjustments to getting it right. Those steps look great for the stability they could provide, but there would be a lot of back and forth as well to dial in the level. Thanks for sharing that as it’s certainly cause for review.

Our Montana fiver came with the Moryde steps and after using them for three years I totally concur with your assessment. We really like them. And as you said in the video, the only problem we have is deploying them at our storage facility. About 50-75% of the time the small storage slot next to us parks something too close for us to be able to access the inside of our trailer without hitching up and moving it.

The opening clearance you spoke about on the Moreride steps was the last thing on our minds when we picked up our Imagine. On the way home a had a moment and said uh oh as I thought about opening my steps at home next to my neighbors fence. Well I cannot gain access to the inside when parked along side of my house because it hits my neighbors fence. Now the day before a trip I pull out the camper and park on my driveway to pack it out disconnect and reconnect the next day. Oh well.

Our Forest River NOBO 20.4 came with these steps. Within 2 hours of bringing our brand new trailer home, the door to our trailer had bent. Believe it was from not having the steps extended fully and that lip at the threshold caught the inside bottom corner of the door. Our door is a solid glass front and the hinge literally separated from the door. Took the trailer back and Forest River denied our claim quoting operator error. So my advice, open the door 100% (meaning a full 180 degrees from closed) open before even attempting to deploy the stairs. And let them come all the way out, with the support legs retracted, and then extend the support legs. For this reason I am not a fan! Anyway, I know how to weld so when I got the trailer back with the ruined door, I took it apart, welded a metal frame, and reassembled the door on that. Closes solidly now, the way it should have from the factory. The construction of this type of door is so pathetic, it’s a wonder these don’t just eventually fall apart. Basically held together by gluing one edge of the front glass to a 1/2 inch flimsy piece of sheet metal!!

Very good review. I have these steps and they are much better than the standard fold out steps. The Series 2 steps ( which I have) have done away with the pins for the height adjustment. Also available is a railing to go on these. One caution : the railings for each series are not interchangeable.

All great tips! We made the mistake of not checking the door swing clearance once and gouged the top of the steps. I think MORryde makes a removable step now for those storage issues you mentioned. Mine came with the trailer and is standard step, no quick adjust legs and no assist for weight. Still better than the diving board type older step though.

The need to use blocks is especially critical on sloping ground. One of the sites we camped at needed about 5" of lift at the wheels and the ground sloped away from the door, so the legs didn't reach the ground even when fully extended. A couple of blocks were needed. We 'know a guy'...he gives us 6x8" blocks but a 4x6 or even 4x4 would work. We then just used a metal platform for the first step, as it was now about 10" up to the first step (this would have been needed even with the floating type steps).

We have Solid Step with lift kit by Lippert, they are almost same as the Morryde step. The issues we have had are different types of rental spaces. Ground levels and types of surface. There have been several instances where we could not park our fifth wheel or had to dig the dirt out where the steps land. These steps are very solid , we like that and the fact it has a wider step on top. The fact that there is no adjustment to the main frame of the steps, only the little legs on the bottom can be an issue. If the space you are renting has solid surface you may not be able to extend the step where it fits properly at the threshold.

I have a 21 mini lite 2516 with these stairs, don't like these stairs because if the stairs are wet and you fold them up, water gets all over the floor. The rule is , Steps go up first and down last. Also I do not think there is enough adjustment for uneven terrain ,sometimes I have to use blocks. I completely agree. We just got our 2024 Grand Design Imagine 2970 RL and it has these. Sand and or water in the trailer every time you fold them inside is a pain. There’s a latch that needs to be pushed before shutting them and opening them and a part is plastic. I can foresee that breaking. Can’t move/adjust the trailer without folding them up. Any roadside stops and folding them down before getting inside and having to set the extension on the legs so it doesn’t bind on the aluminum threshold. I like the outside fold out steps better quick and convent. Only down fall I’ve seen to them is having to paint them after many years of use.

I have an issue with steps on asphalt or concrete sometimes being raised just a little causing door clearance problems. 5th wheel came with 4 steps so bottom step is a ground level. They probably should have only installed 3 step at factory. At a campground with dirt I can just dig down a little. Great video as always. Two questions. When packing up to leave a CG in the rain, aren’t the wet steps dripping water into your trailer during the drive home? Also, do they make steps like these for TTs that have a strut on the bottom of the door to keep it from opening past 90°?
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve never seen a strut to hold it from sagging. But your concern with the water can definitely be an issue. I would just throw a towel under the steps in the doorway if you don’t have something to brush or dry them off.
@joshhaas2410
@joshhaas2410 2 жыл бұрын
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS thanks for your reply. The gas strut at the interior floor level is not to keep the door from sagging but instead to keep the door from swinging open too far. I assume it’s a feature to keep the door from slamming into the side of the trailer in the wind. We have the same MorRyde steps on our fifth wheel, and like them very much. If it’s raining, I open our awning just enough to keep the rain off, then wipe the steps off with a small towel. I keep an old beach towel in our pass through storage area and fold it in half and place inside the door to catch any water or ‘crud’ that might fall onto the inside of the camper. It’s never very much, so not a real problem. Steps are very sturdy, and ours came with a large attached hand rail that really makes it nice going up and down the steps!

I do wish that the stringers had a hinge point in the middle so the stairs would be more storage friendly, sort of like my attic drop down stairs/ladder. Or maybe some kind of floor plate quick release that would allow for the frame to be removed while stored so i could at least hop up into my trailer without having to pull it forward. I have a BigHorn 5th wheel. Had to send the Moryde Step Above back to the seller. The steps that lead to the bedroom would not allow enough clearance for the door to close. Even if I modified (cut back) the lower step the Moryde steps still wouldn't close. Too bad the manufacturer doesn't make you aware of this potential problem. Cost me shipping fees to send it back. hopefully you wont have to, on an RV its not fun. you can shim the hinges, adjust the striker, modify or remove the rubber seal, or very slightly shave the bottom of the door. mine shuts hard too, but not because of the steps. I have mine set to close tightly against the seal. does your door shut equally hard with the steps up too?

One thing that all the videos and step manufacturers do not address is when they run waterlines and powerlines in hidden aluminum runs right where the steps go. The camper had no warnings and those chases are covered with the thin luan wood on the top and bottom. I ended up drilling straight into a waterline which ended up causing me to have to cut out the aluminum runs from underneath to make the repair. Due to having the waterlines and power there, while I had everything open, I used threaded Rivetnuts to be able to use short machine screws that wouldn't hit the lines once installed.

I myself originally left a good review on these after installation. Later I learned that these steps can be extremely dangerous. My father and a good friend to include myself, have fell down these steps and more than once. When these steps are wet and if you do not hit that magic little strip of tape, you will be going for a rough ride. The front edge of these steps are round and have no traction. My solution I guess will be to try and wrap all of the steps with carpet. Just fair warning that these can be dangerous when wet...

@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS where is the fun in that? 😄 no matter what we use, we have to be cautious of tripping on it, too. If there is anything i could trip over, i will! Lost my spine, feeling, waliking without extreme effort and pain, tissue damage i still have, and an eye injury from hitting the back of my head. Later my eye hemorrhaged, too. Permanent life-changing accidents that were understandable, but had i been more vigilant, could have been avoided. A person i hired broke the ladder and did not tell me, but i should have checked it better. The ice was clear, but it was freezing and clear ice was common...i was thinking about what i was going to do, not what i was doing. Medication for cancer also affected my falls, so if you are on meds, please use extra, extra caution. It just is not worth falling. Watch out for stools, too, flat or ladder type. Check that the safety latch is in place and be careful where you put it and where your weight is. If it even remotely seems it could tip, PLEASE YELL for assistance. Trust me, it is not worth it. I tell you what, others' accidents in set up/teardowns and on the road has saved me many times. I remembered their tragedies...driving, pulling out from gas pumps, E2 bars dropped on feet or slipping on stairs! I did not forget. If people get impatient, it is ok, better an extra minute to the alternatives, right? Happy Thanksgiving, may it be blessed and safe!

If you order the correct size and with the legs all the way in and the door still not closing you need to find a different campground that isn’t on a hill. Haven’t had this problem in 7 years. Your friend probably has the wrong size. Most manufacturers are putting these on trailers and 5th wheels from the factory now, have been for a few years. My trailer is parked on a pretty good slope in my driveway which you can clearly see in many of our videos, and that means the rear is down. I still have play in my feet and no issues closing the door. My driveway is worse than any campground I’ve been to as well. I’d bet good money whoever put those steps on chose the wrong rise height.

For the reasons you describe and for the size and price of it, why? I can’t see any reason to replace traditional steps unless you have money to burn for the minor issue of the step causing trailer wobble. Plus when I need to get into the trailer for a quick reason I don’t want to deal with this big oversized thing in the way with no space to put it down, curbs, cars and other trailers. …..As for the wobble, use the bottle jack you should be carrying. An expensive solution for what problem?

Did you ever stop to think that maybe there are people in this world with different wants and needs than you? Maybe someone is handicapped and doesn’t want to walk on wobbly stairs? Maybe people in the world have save their money to spend it on things they want, that doesn’t mean they’re burning money. Instead of being an Internet troll maybe you should be happy this guy is reviewing The negative aspects of the steps along with the good ones. Most channels get them for free and never say anything bad about them. And by the way, a bottle jack, even a small one, it’s not going to fit in a lot of situations underneath the bottom step on level ground. And because the bottom step swings independently from the top two steps, Putting something underneath them doesn’t work. I’ve tried it on multiple campers.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS

Before I got these steps I used the step saver from Camco underneath the bottom step and you are exactly right Lake. Because it moves separately from the top 2 steps the bottom step starts to hinge when walking on the top 2. Definitely doesn’t stabilize very well. Same here. We have them and hate them for so many reasons. They're a hassle on the road almost everywhere we have to stop, can't just pop in the trailer quickly, have to have the proper clearance every time. When you fold them in the water and dirt goes inside the trailer if you don't wipe them down. For us they're a hassle in every way and not worth it, they've been a thorn in our side at multiple points during every single trip out with them. They stick out from the trailer too far at a rest area...if we stop on the side of the road for our son to use the bathroom they often won't reach the ground...we've had occasions where at campgrounds we have to drive the trailer up on blocks just to get the stairs down and be able to close the door because the steps were too close to the ground...these came on our new trailer and we wish they didn't. They don't work for us, I could go on and on. Save yourself the hassle unless you only ever use your trailer at a perfectly level location with lots of room to put the stairs out.
