Yeah, that's one of my main complaints about the visuals of the movie. In the books most of Eurasia was reduced to mud. It's even specifically pointed out by a character in book 3 "we claim we're doing this to save the world but all we're doing is turning it into mud" (not the exact quote, I can't remember it)

Breach a river and turn the whole area into a swamp so hostile cities can't move easily? Use explosives to make the entire rock approach into anti-tank blocks of incredible scale? Put artillery guns and spotters further forward so they have better range? As for the city, it allows for specialists that service the weapons on the wall to be immediately available. Think of it as a military base with lots of civilian support.
@asgore4719
@asgore4719 3 жыл бұрын
This is over 1000 years in the future they probably have some new technology to allow the cities to work. They even say in the book that Medusa (the laser) is powered by energy from other dimensions. The reason the area is so flat is from hundreds of years of cities moving through, shan guoh was not there for large amount of the time cities have moved. The books show that the anti traction league only attacked cities that attacked them. Even if they wanted to they didn't have the resources to do what you are suggesting. The wall is made from the combined effort of all anti tractionist and a large portion is made from small cities that attacked it. The guns only need to take out the tracks of cities and most cities don't see attacking the wall worth it because of the loss of life. So large cities never really attacked it. Also the airships in the books were taken out by valentine making it impossible to bomb it or destroy the cliffs. Also in later books the antitractionest do dig trenches and stuff like that to stop them. The last 2 books sees a full blown war were they do tactics like you suggest. But shan gwoh is mostly civilians with a few agents to go on missions to bomb threatening cities, which valentine stops be destroying the airships.

In theory, the cities of steel got on wheels because there was a poisoned surface under them and they rode in search of resources and smaller towns. Shan Guo had fertile lands and an abundance of minerals, they had a need not for movement, but for protection from those who would come from the west. You can also notice that under the wall fell mainly predatory megacities, which realized that they had two ways: to rot somewhere in the wasteland after the fuel runs out; or try to break through to abundance behind the wall. In the film, we can observe that just in this scene the city, which decomposed, did not even have time to reach the pass, everything was so bad with the predators. Small towns and villages will build to survive through trade, or the opponents of the movement will destroy them)

People get bored for the exact reasons you quoted. It's visually impressive and good for watching "bits" of it. Other than that, it lacks cohesion, has way too many characters and not enough time to develop them, many scenes like the chase of Bavaria makes no sense amongst other things. People are not as basic as wanting bombastic characters shoved on their faces all the time to enjoy things, on the contrary. You would be surprised. The entire concept is screaming for a TV show, where it would have the time it needs to tell it's story, as a movie, it's a nice visual experience, but a good film needs more than just looking pretty.

@@richardsantosgarcia8972 It would have been nice to have a bit more extended story. A TV series, maybe, as long as it didn't extend itself into a tense drama the whole time. Hence why I don't mind that there isn't some super complex relationship between everyone. I don't think it's as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Those guns are too low calibre to penetrate the metal plating of the city vehicle. Plus they appear to use blackpowder which has a lower muzzle velocity than modern smokeless powders. So those guns would probably be pretty useless. It would be much like an 2nd rate ship trying to sink a preDreadnaught. I know that the directors didn't really care about that nuance though. They just thought that guns=all the same.

Just watched it yesterday, 5 Apr 2024. Had I seen the bad reviews, I would have skipped it. It was a fun movie, massive CGI and unique story line. Flaws? Yeah, a few but who overthinks a SciFi film? When you want some escapism, a movie such as this is the cure. Evil fought, good guys win.

Religion for predator cities like London. They've been in them for so long they forgot why they needed them to begin with and the idea of settling is literally heresy. And the predator cities for everybody else like Salthook. If you settle a predator city will role over your town eventually and you die.
