The reason why Raiden is so kind and compassionate is due to Liu Kang's fear of Lord Raiden succumbing to his rage and becoming evil, which is why Lord Liu Kang subdued Raiden's anger.

The funny thing is that as nice as this Raiden is, he is hiding psychopathic tendencies. I mean he was so ready to kill Shao Kahn alongside Shang Tsung and Quan Chi and then in his ending after meeting the old Raiden, he felt like Liu Kang did him a disservice by not giving him his Godly powers. This Raiden might just end being worst than old Raiden

Old raiden was never interesting, easily one of the most boring characters in the whole franchise. This Raiden is both, more interesting than Old Raiden and more interesting than champion Liu Kang. Easily best decission they made with his character.

This Raiden guy seems like a pretty solid character. I like how he's different from 'regular' Liu Kang in the sense that he just wants to live his normal life at the farm. He doesn't really care about being the champion

He’s an extremely humble farmer with low self-esteem/confidence who has a family or a village he is attached to and is polite/respectful to even his opponents at the tournament and makes witty comebacks but in a respectful polite tone. He was also portrayed as weaker than Kung Lao initially as well. He’s a lot like Dragon Ball’s Gohan, not brought up or raised as a warrior/fighter (he did get taught by Madam Bo but it wasn’t a dedicated lifestyle like the Shaolin/warriors) and is not naturally a fighter but fights for his family and friends and for good. Liu Kang was an orphan brought up and raised by the shaolin, he was already confident at least in comparison to this mortal Raiden and was a monk/fighter naturally and was always shown as good or better than Kung Lao. He’s like Goku, fighting and being a warrior monk and all that is instilled in him. People say Liu Kang and Raiden both just simply swapped roles and it’s lazy but fail to comprehend and acknowledge the key differences between them and the current timeline/situation. Liu Kang as a protector has previous knowledge of everything else and is trying his best to prevent or temper the lust for violence and bloodshed. He’s also probably trying to pay back his mentor old Raiden in some way which is heartwarming. Mortal Raiden I explained already.

I wish Raiden had more of a besties vibe with Kitana and a WAAAAAAY more dense relationship with Shao. I still think of how great they could've been if they were like Optimus and Megatron, for example. They start as opponent, growing really fast as friends, sharing experiences and thoughts, about how DIFFERENT they lived until now and THEN Shang Tsung offer rob "us" of the better Shao, the Shao Liu Kang tried to mold into a better person

Remember that Old raiden is still a part of Liu Kang. Maybe he suggested or the inner consciousness said to make this raiden human instead of a god. Old Raiden almost got consumed by darkness. That's how learned few things can dangerous that's why things should change.

I love his redesign. Removing all the God hood bells and whistles and stripping him back to something akin to his original design is perfect. And 14:48 makes me hope a stranger things character joins in.

Raiden was my favorite character and still is. I really loved this new version of him and hoping he get more plot attention like the old Raiden. 13:39 Also: Liu Kang: Kung Lao's ego is irritating the other monks. Raiden: I will speak to him, lord Liu Kang..... After I finish you with a Fatality.

I now want the Original Voice actor, the Ones who didnt get to reprise their Roles Like Raiden, It would be Nice to see them as like a DLC

Much as I loved the OG actors, these new ones suit the new roles perfectly as young and rising champions. OG raiden did make a cameo, but Richard Epcar sadly did not reprise the role.
