We continue on with the cutscenes for Mortal Kombat 1. Part 2 sees us following Fire God Liu Kang, Sub-Zero and Scorpion as they take Johnny Cage, Raiden and Kung Lao for training. Raiden represents Earthrealm in Mortal Kombat and our heroes venture to Outworld where they meet Sindel, Kitana, Mileena and Tanya and Raiden goes up against Mei-Li, Kitana and General Shao in Kombat. We also get introduced to Baraka who has a very interesting backstory in this latest iteration of the game.

Since publishing our part 1 of this series of MK1 cutscene reactions we've learned from you guys that watching the video from IGN is the better way of doing this since it doesn't cut out the violence. So, we will be picking up where we left off for part 3 in the IGN video.

Another reason why general shao "just takes it", is cause sindel is older than him in this timeline I imagine she's known him since he was a kid, she's basically like his aunt and since he's an army brat basically, you can bet that his dad drilled respect for your elders into him.

I absolutely LOVE this younger and human version of Raiden. He feels like a completely different person while at the same time having a lot of the core character elements from before the New Era. Also I can’t tell you how much I love this version of Sindel. She’s no longer a brainwashed slave, nor that horrible version she was in MK11🤮. She is now the woman we have seen hinted at in previous games before she was turned, the strong, independent, firm but fair Empress that she always should’ve been!

Reminder that in MK9, sindel solo’d all of earthrealms champions by herself. And I don’t mean she knocked them out, she killed all of them 1 right after the other. And in MK11 aftermath, Shang Tsung had to resurrect her in order to have someone strong enough to beat Cetrion, an elder god. And she successfully did so. Sindel has always been stronger than Shao Kahn. I know none of that happened in this timeline, but we don’t have any reason to believe that she isn’t still OP.

Jaby, if you don't remember why Sindel commands such respect/fear, I kindly ask you to revisit MK9 where she maims or kills a majority of the heroes by herself when she's newly resurrected and not even in control of her mind. As for Shao specifically, in this universe he isn't nearly as strong. He was genetically modified to increase his strength because he was born very sickly.

She did, but don't forget Shao Kahn infused her with Shang Tsung's powers beforehand. She's super strong on her own, but not to the point of killing almost everyone and leaving unscratched.

@@blacky8987he’s not. Liu Kang himself says that he intentionally crippled the major villains from the previous timeline in order to stop them from growing more powerful. It’s why Shao, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi are constantly getting dogwalked by the other characters.

10:41 indeed. Very southeast Asian. Architectures in Outworld are similar to the ones found in Indonesia (especially Bali), Thailand and Vietnam. Smoke's weapon is a karambit knife, which originates from Indonesia. Ashrah's kriss is also an actual traditional dagger from Indonesia.

I have to say, without spoilers, although I'm unsure where the writers are going with the end of this campaign, I do love this theme of "conversation not war" when it comes to the conflict in this story. I love the redemption of Baraka, Reptile, Sindel and Mileena. You don't always need empty villains who are just "mean/evil" for no reason. They all feel like PEOPLE!!

Ever since the first game with “ninjas”, Mortal Kombat has been heavily influenced by Asian culture and mythologies. Instead of trying to keep everyone from separate countries and complicate the lore, they kept it quite simple.

One thing I can say about Raiden’s personality is that he's still inquisitive and questions everything until he knows the answer is absolute. Although when he's under pressure he doesn't think rationally, even when he was an entity. Also, if you saw the scar on Milleena’s right eyebrow, I think that's how she caught Tarkat, just my theory.

I already finished story mode but it's a blast watching the reactions to it 😃 Sindel needed to get fix for MK 1 because in MK 11 "she had been evil all along" ruined the character to many fans. And They completely squandered everything X set up for. I think it's a smart move, one I believe Disney should make with Marvel, that needs a reset too.

Liu Kang won this same tournament before, in MK9 they mention it when Kung Lao is disguising as a Shang Tsung bodyguard and probably on some of their bios.

7:55 that comment was a slight against Raiden in the earlier timeline (when he was the protector of earth realm), before Lui Kang rewrote the histories, as previously Raiden *_DID_* send his champions into situations unwittingly. In LK's rewritting, it also is *_possible_* that the fatality aspect was removed from the earlier tournaments (in this timeline).

Well let's not forget Sindel wields very powerful magic. Shaos size doesn't matter, she could easily just use a siren scream or a hair fireball and blast the shit out of him. Also she can fly. ALSO in this game she can basically mind control people by imbueing her voice with magic. So honestly if he didn't listen to her willingly, she could just make him do whatever anyway. He actually doesn't REALLY have a choice if she decided to be a dick.

What's great about the story is that they subtly show how certain stuff is unavoidable. The scene with General Shao & Liu Kang shows that Kung Lao is destined to get his neck snapped again in the future.

Some moments of the cinematics are so lifelike. The graphics are next level. The characters are so well done this time around. I have yet to find an annoying character in this game. Everyone has a compelling story overall.

When you were talking about kitana, mileena and single race just so you know in mortal kombat 11 kitana and mileena face model was a Philippina and in mortal kombat 1 kitana, Mileena and sindel all there face model are Vietnamese so you were right about them having a South East Asia look.

Love how they change kenshis story. Instead of him being blinded in a cave by shang he is blinded by mileena. Johnny is awesome here He has martial arts prowlers he’s talented and shows scale even know he is still cocky he is not so much full himself to where it’s pride overshadows his overall person. I love how Raiden doesn’t really judge Johnny or Kenshi he seeks understanding he knows that hey you know Dude is a little bit annoying and he can rub people the wrong way but he respects him as a martial artist respect him as a human being and respect him as a fellow Mortal Kombat champion

Ever since I first saw a monastery full of martial artists, I thought it would be cool to have lived that sort of life... It's interesting to see this same sentiment in others. It's a salute that is rather specific in reference to Huike, the first disciple of Bodhidharma and 1st generation successor to Chan/Zen Buddhism (Which is closely tied to Shaolin). Huike happened to have an arm missing, and so in honor of him the bow is done with one arm. According to lore, when Bodhidharma was meditating in his cave for 9 years, Huike asked him to be taken as a disciple and was refused. He waited all night at the cave entrance and asked him yet again. Bodhidharma essentially said that he had no virtue or resolve, and so in response Huike cut his own arm off and offered it as a measure of his will. So no, it's not Thai. It's a bow specific to Shaolin/Chan/Zen.

If Sindel’s power level is similar to how it was in the previous timeline then Sindel is strong enough to go blow for blow with an elder god so she’s very powerful, and Shao has loyalty to Outworld so he won’t jeopardize Outworld’s reputation without reason

@@blacky8987 where did Liu Kang come from? He wasn’t even apart of the conversation. And maybe human Liu Kang could have dealt with Sindel, we don’t know because it never happened. Shao Kahn was pretty much not far below the elder gods and Liu Kang beat him. But that’s because that’s how the devs wrote his story. It’s been known since MK3 how strong Sindel was.
