One of the main reasons that Mortal Kombat became such a hit on consoles was that you could buy the whole game once and play it as much as you wanted instead of having to keep putting quarters in the arcade machine. It feels like we're going backwards with a lot of newer games.

The problem with mortal kombat 1 is that it's more flash than substance. More content hid behind paywall rather than more content and unlockables you can get just by playing the game.

I grew up with MK after finding MK1 in my local arcade. This MK was absolutely awful and a desperate cash grab. Mk has been going downhill after MKX. I would LOVE to get my money back for this game

How the mighty have fallen… Started out in the 3D era and the last MK I fully enjoyed was MK9. It’s sad seeing how it slowly became more corporate. Sad.

What they fail to realize is that the market is not volatile. It's just that when you disrespect the fans, disrespect the source material and overcharge for everything people will not be excited for what you have to offer. Also, WB and many other devs are spending too much damn money on those games. Just throwing money at a project won't make it good. Pick a small team of highly talented and passionate devs, give gamers more value than what they're paying for, and they'll always stick with you.

Mortal Kombat has rebooted 5 times in 15 years. This has always reeaally bothered me as a life long fan. Armageddon was the end & a New Beginning. *Which I eagerly anticipated* MK Vs. DC came out of nowhere & really confused me. *So I waited for the next one* Finally MK9 released, & I was head over heels in love. ❤ *Couldn't wait to play whatever was to come next after such an intense reboot* MKX released, & its still my FAVORITE fighting game that I've ever played. *The new story, gameplay styles & characters captured my heart, I eagerly anticipated the Sequel once again* & Then it happened MK11 happened, a game I just couldn't enjoy no matter how much I played. Though gorgeous The Microtransactions, terrible krypt, Sluggish gameplay, Create your own variant system, & BIGGEST SIN OF ALL. REBOOOTING!! Killed this game for me. MK9's new timeline wasn't enough for 'em MKX's Twenty Year timeskip wasnt enough for em' MK11 Results In a stagnant meandering story, with blatantly ridiculous intentions at times. Imagine if the entirety of Avengers Endgame was the time travel segment. I didn't even buy MK1, it's not for me. I don't even want to explain. Though MK11 & 1 still have epic guest characters, they didn't save these games for me. Especially because microtransactions just got worse & worse with each release...

MK has a future, it's just that it needs to branch off into different types of games. The MK Universe has so much rich lore that there are a plethora of avenues it can go. For example, bring back the action-based Shaolin Monks style games. Or a new take on Special Forces with Jax and Sonia with a Resident Evil feel/take on it. Of course the traditional fighting games but more spread out amongst the other things they can work on in between with the storytelling interwoven between them all. Just stop giving us half ass fighting games so often.

This kind of crap is why the newest console I own is the PS3. That's when I became aware of DLC and didn't buy many games on that console. Because of these greedy practices I've pretty much stopped playing games altogether, finding other ways to occupy my time.

Honestly I’d love to see Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks make a come back because that was the only MK game I’d ever play. The controls and combos were fun as well.

WB is trash. They are milking the longtime fans of their acquired IPs. The insane Microtransactions are anything but micro. $10 for a voice announcer in MK1. Disgusting. I’ve preached time and time again on Twitter. Pleaded with the community to vote with their wallet. WB is selling enough MTX to keep the game at 50% off since late November. I genuinely hope WB goes bankrupt and are forced to sell their IPs. MK couldn’t be in worse hands. A bunch of non-gamers in over their head making mistakes made countless times by other studios….way to go. The new fan bases these games are garnering are that of short bus variety.

As awful as the dlc/microtransaction are, the problem with mk1 is that it isn’t very good. Basically mk11 with kameos, style over substance. Fighting games are back, and people aren’t going to support mediocre games that don’t even have crossplay at launch.

Change MK to a 3d open world game. Like deception or Armageddon’s konquest story mode. Like Destiny. Where players can meet in lobbies. They need to make a new mk champ after mk1. Switch out some characters. New story and plot. Mk 11 aftermath and mk1 story was excellent. But it got too confusing in the 3rd and final acts of mk1. Too many timelines? Leave it simple not convoluted.

I got to work on this game, and it makes me sad alot of the stuff I worked on being used this way. Everything you're saying is spot on, and it makes me believe the entertainment industry as a whole really needs to go through a " recession" type event before it goes back to being a consumer controlled industry. It's going to take a massive change somewhere to redirect peoples focus away from gaming, for it to happen though.

Usually I'm alright with cosmetics DLC back in games like SF4 and other games in that generation. Seems like now its all about turning customers into ATMs for these greedy corporate types.

They destroyed the 2 most iconic characters of the game scorp & sub0, imagine sf does that to ryu & ken(ken without shoryuken) or tekken with the mishimas but without electrics hence sub0's iceball doesn't combo & scorp's teleport doesn't combo, & scorpion isn't even scorpion lol fuck nrs

Mortal Kombat needs to take a whole new genre direction and make an open world game. The lore is so big and a new Deception or Shaolin Monks game would be so great and people would love to spend time with the game. Battles can of course still be integrated

I stopped playing MK1 after 3 weeks. Where are all the unlockable alternate costumes? Behind a paywall. I'm not spending hours to grind for in game currency just to basically unlock ugly alternate color schemes for 2 costumes each fighter has. I know not everyone liked MK11 Towers, it was grindy. But at least you got multiple cool new costumes for each character without having to play extra.

Got the game day one for PC and I experienced a rare glitch where the game would crash after 10 min. Refunded and planned to repurchase when it was sorted out. Thank goodness for that because all the crazy micro transactions came and I never repurchased

My opinions about gaming franchise, which games supporting offline mode but paying with own accounts, games supposed be free play with earning points and rewards afterwards challenging with complete rewards in games. Game Companies need work planning on Solutions in levels too.

Funny to see one fighting game after another fails due to greedy mobile game tactics. That gives me hope that the devs wake up and return to their roots and make fighting games that let us unlock characters or outfits instead of force us to buying it.

What I'm curious about is how they can possibly transition MK into a mobile game. It's not the kind of game that lends itself to cell phone play, nor is there really any audience overlap to make that work. The people that are willing to be nickel and dimed for the franchise most likely won't be able to accept the cutbacks and changes even needed to make the game viable for mobile play. Plus you can't turn that into an e-sport.

Yup grew up with MK and loved ALL the movies even the horrible 97 one BUT since 10 and their aggressive monitizations I stepped back. real shame though was beautiful while it lasted. Second they paywalled fighters that shipped with the game notta can't support that behavior. As Sonic seyz 'That's no good!'

I blame fortnite, ever since they introduced the shop and it got extremely popular gaming companies stopped doing affordable dlc bundles and started doing the shops where we have a time limit to get a nice skin 😭 I can’t bring myself to pay 10$ for a skin when just a couple years ago you could pay 25 and get multiple skins….

The game is good, but nowadays it became a very dry and corporate image, thanks to WB for buying the framchise. In MK11 started off the micro transactions and MK1 increased it even more. They turned The Krypt into a loot box. Konquest mode has now became this seasonal Invasion Mode. Now they're in a tight spot, with other fighting games. SF6 and Tekken 8 are going strong.

MK1 to me felt fishy right away when they announced it'd be "Early Access". So...let me get this straight. The Triple AAA, 70-130$ fighting game, 12th entry of a long running series.... is launching incomplete. Knowingly incomplete, and we the customer are just expected to sit there while they piecemeal the rest of the game. And with blatant On-Disc DLC like Ermac, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, ala Street Fighter X Tekken. And low and behold, the game was rushed, incomplete, still littered with bugs and game breaking glitches, *(Most of them not present in prior NRS games. Again as another sign of rushed development.)* And top it off with a bloated file size ranging to 100 gigabytes, and a PC port so bipolar it'll break with each update, then you got yourself a recipe for the worst gaming experiences of 2024. In my humble opinion. Can't honestly recommend MK1, least in its current state. Which as a diehard MK fan, hurts to say. Say what you will about MKvsDC, it wasnt *this* bad...

I have despised the micro-transactions in Mortal Kombat 1 but let's not forget that Street Fighter and Tekken have them too. It's a horrible trend that nobody seems to be able to do anything about. I hope that NRS either get sold or have the ability to get away from WB Games. Mortal Kombat 1 is an amazing game and so much fun but the bad press surrounding it I think is not helping it. I don't think they have always helped themselves either but the game is not half as bad as half of the internet wants you to believe.

they're so busy getting celebrities in the game that the game itself has no quality control. this soft reboot of mortal kombat since the self titled mk game aka MK9 isn't mortal kombat ever since wb purchased this ip from the dead midway games studio. MK1 reboot is just the latest proof of that, from the over saturated guest characters to now overstuffed celebrities being in the game. MK died when midway games died, just like spyhunter. WB games murdered those franchises.

There won't be a video game crash again (the one that did happen only happened in the United States) because there will always be a market from them like there are for books and music. What will happen is a bonfire of AAA studios with new IP's and studios rising up from the vacuum who will develop AA games. I say bring it on.

They should've never added assist only way to fix it is to make the assist playable with their own life bar like tekken tag.

The solution is simple. Don't buy any AAA games unless they're on sale (30% off at least). The whales on console gaming are not the same whales on mobile gaming, but the CEOs don't seem to realize this. Besides, if there's going to be another crash, it will only be the AAA industry. The Indie field is doing just fine.

I cant get myself to buy the kombat pack for 40usd. And the game is stale without it because of how the Kameo system works. So it's just sitting in my library until the KP is on sale for dirt cheap.
