A playthrough of JY Company's 1994 unlicensed fighting game for the NES, Mortal Kombat II.
Played as Liu Kang on the hard difficulty level.
Mortal Kombat II (真人快打II) for the NES is a bootleg "port" of Midway's original Mortal Kombat. It was one of several NES fighting games created by Hummer Team, and it runs on a modified version of the engine that powered Kart Fighter (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jJqPeLN_tp7WhZc.html) and their Street Fighter II knock-off (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/acp3dbB4rpqXd3U.html). It was also their first game to be released under the JY label.
As far as Taiwanese 8-bit pirated versions of arcade fighting games go, Mortal Kombat II isn't bad. It looks nice. Though they all look like they were ripped from the Game Boy game, the sprites are all recognizable and animate reasonably well, and the simplified control scheme is decent. It's missing blood and the fatality moves, and it doesn't play as well as Hummer's Street Fighter II, but it's better than you might expect from something like this.
The best part has to be bonsai Goro, though. He has been shrunk down to the size of the rest of the cast, and it looks completely ridiculous.

Bonsai Goro is the boss character when you unlock him as a playable character. ...except that MK trilogy actually kept his raw power.

A game where hard mode is the default difficulty. I thought Devil May Cry 3 vanilla/Resident Evil 3 were the only ones that meant business but darn.

Actually looks pretty good. Obviously not full 16 bit quality...but for an 8 bit bootleg...looks good. Looks like it controls ok enough

This is new for me! Good frames, few sprit fails... i think this pushed lil'nintendo to the limit! Goro slayer and other stages looks amazing with ftf animation in background.

Sometimes I forget that some folks didn't find these online and in fact actually played them. They weren't just put on for a quick laugh and then turned off forever after a single match. They played them through. They got good enough to beat them, despite many glaring issues. Bless this copyright pirate cart schlock, and kusoge in general as well.

Kinda funny it's called Mortal Kombat II, when it is actually based on the original game. Still looks quite impressive as an NES port of Mortal Kombat. They even managed to give us the Endurance Matches.

Did you know the first three Mortal Kombat games had ports on both the Master System and Gameboy? MK4 was also on GB, in color

Looks good for an 8 bit port. Looks reslly good. If the special moves are done the same way and the mechanics are on point, I would say this is a solid game. Some games look good but play horribly. I would have wanted this back in the day if i didn't own a Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. I had better options back then. Now I have an Arcade 1UP Mortal Kombat cabinet and feel better than saving my summer job money for a $6000 cabinet with one game.

It's a cool game, many people liked it in Russia, not everyone could afford sega; I know all the tricks in it, raiden is very cool in this part and sonya will quickly put you on your shoulder blades, the most buzz is mini goro and victory over him, of course, Shan tsung himself, the music is certainly a little wrong, but the game's dynamite is super!😊
