Mortal Shell Build Guide: Tiel, The Acolyte. fextralife.com/mortal-shell-b... - In this Mortal Shell Class Guide, we’re going to be taking a look at the Tiel, the Acolyte Shell, which is likely the third Shell players will acquire within the game. I’ll be providing tips on which Skills to take, which Weapons work best with this Shell, and who should be using this Shell in their first playthrough based on its playstyle. If you’ve been wondering if this is the Shell for you, or how to best utilize it, watch on to find out.

Tiel, the Acolyte is likely the third shell you’ll find in Mortal Shell, and if you’ve played the beta already then you’ll be somewhat familiar with the area he is located. However, he is not in the same exact place he was. Tiel is now located in the cave where you fight Ven Noctivagu, which is in Fallgrim Outskirts.
Tiel is an excellent Shell for confident players that have a strong sense of the game’s mechanics, and feel like combat is too slow for them. By having such a large Stamina pool, these players will be able to pull off more attacks and dodges, speeding up combat and allowing them to play to their aggressive nature. However, I don’t recommend this Shell to new players because the small Health pool doesn’t afford many mistakes before death, and you are sure to make plenty when first learning the game.

i tried to get used to using harras and getting a mix of dodging and hardening but i ended up going with tiel it just fits more bc that’s how i’ve played all souls games is a dodge first

I love Tiels movement. I'm a soulsborne player and it helps for dodging. Just don't miss a parry, or you're practically dead 😅

They really should have given him two more ticks of health because goddamn he gets one shotted by big guys heavy attacks. It's brutal at that point you should just go no shell for even more stamina and faster movement speed

I was an Eredrim main until I gave Tiel a shot. I died in the blink of an eye at my first few tries but when i equipped all his abilities he quickly became my favorite.

Infinite stamina at running was underrated here since you can run past enemies, run around a enemies and do a heavy running attack(specially the Hallowed Sword) and have enough stamina to keep attacking and evading. BUT, its expensive. Maybe that's why it got underrated here.

Accidentally killed first boss : Twiceborn. After that, the game became a breeze, especially with Tiel

Tiel is the best for new palyers exactly because of named reasons. And best in the game overall, btw. He is only one who has NORMAL SOULSLIKE DODGE not that unusable jump-roll. And when you have that, you don't need any of that parry healing (which requires perfrct timing, which new players don't have due to unfamiliarity with enemies and mechanics). Also enormous stamina makes unnececary stamina managment, you just do whatever you want. Tiel + Hollow Sword - easy fisrt run

the 2 resolve bars can be addressed by purchasing the upgrade for the tarnish seal which passively boosts the resolve recharge.

Resolve: Since his life is so low you may not want to risk to parries. But when you get two resolves you can use weapon buff techniques (like Martyrs Sword) to attack. Deadly.

I really like accreation of ascent. Even if its not that good, especially during bossfights it saved my try a couple of time. Also it just feels so good getting the "oh no" of a hit and then seeing you didnt loose any health.

My shell of choice for my first playthrough, I loved him so much. His low resolve didn't bother me at all, and his low health wasn't really an issue for me since I'm a souls veteran. But for new people, stay away. Unless you wanna learn to dodge a lot

One USEFUL detail they don't mention is that the poison buff is not a single use, but instead the poison buff is PERMANENT unless you get hit.

When using Tiel in NG+2 I was able to 1st try every boss aside from the final one, I thought the 2 resolve bars would be a problem but he has so much stamina that those will refill very quickly. His dodges are great and make it very easy to go in and out which made the Crucix fight a joke. I now have beaten the game with all shells and I see no reason to use Eredrim or Harros ever again.

Poison cloud + poison heal work for Tiel. (no seriously if you don't take a heal perk the poison cloud will poison you too)

Yes, that's fun, but if you think in terms of historical battlegrounds, often was a better choice to using heavy (and with long range) weapons in a lighter armor. Nice how this take sense in a fantasy game :)

isn't their dodge different? It feels different to me. Plus some stuff just looks cool AF, like "forward+dodge, forward+R2/heavy", you shadow rush on ground, but when you reappear you're in the air laying down your heavy strike. It's awesome!

- Poison buff his best ability. 20% chance to damage being transferred to Stamina is not good enough for a chart with the lowest HP. Unless you get the other skill that power up this when enemy is poisoned. BUT poison is too short and you have to be constantly attacking to keep the poison on the enemy and the buff active. If you can keep on the offense, this is good.

Unpopular opinion: Tiel is the easiest shell, even for new players. You don't have to watch your stamina ever, you can do lots of hits and still roll out with ease. You don't need mana slots, as a new player won't do a lot of counters anyways. I just stomped through the game with Tiel in 10 hours, as I could play very aggressively and always just focus on engaging with a jump, hardening after some hits and then rolling out without ever running out of stamina. Also infinite running helps you to skip back to where you died or bring back the essences after killing bosses. Healing with mushrooms and rats was enough for me, basically only rarely using the parry heal on small enemies. Spam rolling during boss attacks and poison heal and damage are also welcome. With other shells and without upgrading the starting sword very early to the max, I was struggling a lot, but not anymore after I unlocked Tiel.

I actually picked Solomon early by running to it, then went and got hammer and chisel, without upgrading any weapons then picked the tank and beat the H&C boss and upgraded that. Game became too easy after that, haven’t died to a boss since.

wait we only need to max out one shell for the vendor right? How fast should we aim to do that?

Once you figure out which Shell you want, the sooner you can max it out the better. Otherwise, you'll be nearly done with the game before you can fast travel and it will only be useful in NG+

Nah, he's the easier. Too easy to dodge with him. Probably Solomon with focus on parry is the hardest one

I dunno how far I am into the game possibly at the end mabey still at the beginning haven't played long but I seem to be crazily ahead of anyone else but I use the king shell thing and hammer and chisel a good combo seems to kill most just do light heavy light heavy

The 1st skill for hammer and chisel is not good but the second one.....that thing does stupid damage and it can be used at any distance that you can lock on from. It made the final boss a joke.

Really love how informative you were but I have to disagree with some of points there. I think Tiel is a great choice for new players. I just beat the game only maining Tiel and I believe him to be the best character choice. Although his health is small, that massive stamina bar always allow me enough time to dodge or just completely run away. Accretion of Resolve was by far my favorite skill. Too many times had I try to run away but my stamina ran out with Harros or Solomon. If things got super bad, I knew that I could easily just ran away with Tiel. Also, Accretion of Yearning was beyond essential and may be the BEST skill Tiel possesses. After a successful riposte on a poisoned enemy, Tiel would actually heal even more after taking in the poison as well. When it comes to weapon choice, the Hallowed sword carried me through the whole game. After maxing it out, most of the basic enemies would die with just a quick running attack with the Hallowed sword. Martyr's Blade is ridiculously slow and chisel was just too weak. I was never a good souls player but playing with Tiel all the way through. New players shouldn't be afraid or hesitant on choosing Tiel as he, in my opinion, is the most optimized character.

I have to agree. I'm on my first playthrough and I can survive way easier with Tiel because of the insane amount of stamina. With other characters I always end up getting hit way more because I would run out of stamina quickly and be locked in place. Even using the shell I would still get hit afterwards. I love Tiel, and I also feel like his skills benefit his character more than the other character's skills benefit them overall.

So after viewing all four guides for all characters, the Smoldering Mace is the worst (most difficult) weapon in the game? Because it's literally no one's best weapon to use?

No the mace is a beast. I'd argue the sword you get at the start is the worst. The mace's hvy attack can send enemies flying and it has good crowd control and special abilities.

@@requiem4ameme929 The sword looks kinda balanced and mediocre. It doesn't seem to have a very wide attack radius, but still with the exception of a couple of strikes with long radius; and it doesn't deal a lot of damage, but also not too small damage; and it doesn't have too much speed, but it's not too wery slow either; and it doesn't have a strong knock power, but his heavy attack are still good enough to knock down most of the enemies; also at the same time, it does not spend too much stamina and it has very comfortable special attacks with pretty solid damage and strong knock power. I didn't really use mace to much. But perhaps, in comparison with others, the sword is really the most difficult weapon to use.

There is no "best" weapon. Like in every other Soulsbourne your skill is important to be dead(ly).

You have to have every ability. Thats literally the only requirement. It doesnt matter which shell, i have Harros and Eredrim maxed and both have the shop BEFORE NG+.

When you harden and the enemy hits you, it puts out a poison cloud.

@@stansfield4163 @c oh my bad dude, wrong ability...yeah, knowledge was pretty much useless, except for the trophy to kill an enemy if you 'fall off a tiny ledge' from above and harden on him.

one skill sayts there is a strong attack while harden in air but its bullshit. it only triggers when youre falling from greater height at the enemy below, so its not working in the way that you can do runinig jump attack and deal more damage.

For an attack yeah, nearly useless. But the skill completely negates fall damage, even fatal falls. If its not out of the boundary of the map you'll land unscathed provided you harden before landing.

i want to like Tiel so bad because out of the 3 shells i have he has the best ability tree, as for the other shells i have, i'm not asking for an over powered skill tree but i find them lame as heck. like the several skills to get more glimpse. lame. unless you could share the glimpse between shells which at least in the point of the game i'm in you cannot. but also he does look fantastic and that also sucks to not be able to stare at his skinny butt without getting killed by a humming bird
