Such delightful attention and intention in performing this unusual music. Morton Feldman's music comes to us in so many forms. Each delightful. A very delightful person, too.

Others may not like it, but as a Bass Clarinet player I actually quite like this piece. It's very interesting and I love the atmosphere of suspense and mystery it creates. Also, props to her because I've played Bass Clarinet for about six years and I still struggle with some of those extremely high notes!

the way she added subtle variations to each note was astounding. you can truly see her tip toeing through feldmans shadowy world

You either love it or you hate it. There is no middle ground with Feldman's music.

Meh, leaves me pretty cold either way. Certainly don’t love or like it, not enough there to hate either.

yes, to be more precise, I think people almost all like it

The only middle is Feldman himself, chaining it to an unpredictable signature.

D,C#,B played by the bass clarinet over Bb drone played by tympani and marimba = Bb7b9 or Bb7altered dominant chord creating expectation in the listener. Also the short octatonic 8th note chords played together by the marimba players are the parent scale of said chord . So in the end it's all a minimalist meditation on that auxiliary diminished scale or the octatonic scale

Not really, it's not framed within a tonality.

@@jackgallahan9669 I don't think Feldman had a consistent, categorizable approach to tonality. He certainly didn't shun the octave the way the serialists did, but he also was very fond of m9ths and M7s very much like Webern. I think his general musical goal was to keep things in flux and not imply any kind of harmonic motion, so that any attempt to fit him into a tonal scheme is doomed to failure, and even kind of misses the point of his aesthetic.

This piece is a piece of peace; an absolute piece of peace. Pass a pint, and praise be to this piece: a pure piece; a purple piece; a piece of play appearing piece-by-piece. Peace comes slowly, and then it arrives. Peace be with us! And thank you for providing this piece of it...

It's an oddly compelling work. I commend you all on your ability to not only count the piece, but to play it with such sensitivity. (Not that if you miscounted it I would be able to tell, even if I were following the score!)

well, after a few minutes you think, that's done....! but it keeps going on forever... sorry but it's pitty that the composer didn't know how to write for the bass clarinet....!

It's a pity Feldman didn't have you around to learn about composition from, and had to make do with people like John Cage, George Antheil and Henry Cowell.
