@@stevenmajicmike I’m a different MOS, but went to the same schoolhouse/lived in the same barracks as 12Y. I don’t know how the day to day life is in garrison for them, but they get put in primarily division level offices or military intelligence brigades from what my old friends have told me. Job comes with TS clearance, and you will give briefs to people much higher ranking than yourself. Overall the people I went to school with who had this MOS are happy with their choice

The AIT experience is most likely much different from when I went, considering that was almost 5 years ago now

This school needs to be sent back to Fort Bevoir at the National Geospatial College. It has no business at Fort Leonard Wood.

Hogwash. It is an engineering school! Quit trying to take Geos out of USACE! That's where we belong. Belvoir is a toxic bath for brainwashing. You will confuse the Geos.

What’s the difference between 12Y and 35G?
@TukaMarz3 жыл бұрын
12Y Geospatial Engineer delivers information about the terrain; the soil, vegetation, ground slope, surface drainage, man-made features, and what their effects are. 35G Imagery Analyst delivers information about what is going on in the image. Specifically having to do with human activity. So a 12Y and 35G can look at the same image and a 12Y would report “you can drive though this area” whereas a 35G would report “that vehicle moved into that spot today”
@jd56553 жыл бұрын
@@TukaMarz thank you for this explanation! But sadly my dream came to an end when I was in a car accident and I got a herniated disc b/c of it. Now my dream of going to the US Military has come to an end. (I’m pissed)

What's the difference between 35G and 12Y. What job fits better for the civilian side? I have a BS in Environmental Science
@asce918211 ай бұрын
The primary difference is that the 12Y analyzes Geospatial data in reference to the terrain and its effects on friendly and enemy forces. 12Ys focus is largely on geographical effects as well as the construction of Maps. The 35Gs focus is largely on Enemy disposition, fighting positions, and obstacles to the friendly force.

I was a 12Y and now am a GIS analyst at the county. 35G will not get you trained with ESRI products and large datasets. I worked side by side with 35G at my unit and if I had to do it again I would stick with 12Y. If your into data and research 12Y is the go. If your into intel, recon and surveillance, I would go 35G. Look at getting the 12Y cert like a GIS certificate, it’s much more transferable to civilian. I would take advantage of the model builder portions of the course because it’s probably the closest you will get to python training there. I went in 2010 when NGA gave out college level diplomas for it; I don’t think that’s the case anymore but I promise you it’s worth a lot out here in the civilian world. KEEP ALL DOCUMENTATION OF CLASSES AND CERTIFICATES RELATED TO YOUR JOB. Buzzword for you all right now would be Army Corp. of Engineers. Good luck!

Those are two different skills and it would be very difficult to get a person from zero to proficient with both of those skill sets in a short period of time. That's why they are to mos's and not one.
