Former 13M here This MOS is hit or miss, meaning your experience(s) will vary. I spent most of my active duty time in Iraq, never once setting foot in Korea. I did everything from infantry work, to counter IED route clearance, to military policing. So what DozSkills said is not true, not entirely, especially not with what's happening in Europe now. I served in both 13B and 13M units, my experience in both was equal in terms of discipline, experience, and number of deployments. In fact, I spent longer deployed in a 13M unit than I did a 13B unit. That said, this MOS will not prepare you for anything following your military career. Neither will any of the other 13 series, or combat arms positions for that matter. Risk of injury is high, in all of them. The thing they don't tell you about field artillery, beyond what I just said, is that during conflicts that have limited demand for artillery units/missions (such as Iraq and Afghanistan) you may spend your deployment doing everything from Infantry work to supply and police work; it really depends on your command. I also found that nearly every one I, personally, ran into had college level education at both the enlisted and commissioned levels. No single veteran can tell you what a branch will be like, and anyone that does claim that is just flat wrong. Experiences will vary, as with every other job. The Army is what you make of it. If you are considering a combat arms MOS, whether it be artillery, infantry, armor or anything else, great, but use it as a stepping stone to get the education and experience you might need for another MOS that will set you up for great things once you get out, like military intelligence. That, more than anything else, is what I wish someone would have told me when I went in.

You're the first comment I read that's that detailed about the mos. I'm hopefully locking in a job next week. Was looking at this mos because of time in ait, but I heard it's practically nothing but motorpool duty. So I've been trying to find more info on that. What I also like, though, is the recruiter told me that a bonus of 13m right now is first base choice in contract.

you chose a combat support MOS thinking that it could truly transfer into the civilian sector, in what world are civilians just sitting around firing off rockets? i’ve never seen it, that’s pretty cut and dry, i started in a medical MOS and plan on switching over to combat support in my next enlistment just to have fun in the Army.

If you consider 5 locations worldwide. Also some of the most undisciplined soldiers I have ever met in my career from junior to some in higher ranks. In the few MOS' I have obtained in my Army career 13m is one of the most disappointing to have obtained. Go 13B if you really want the field artillery discipline, experience, and deployments. Most 13ms end up doing rotations to south Korea you'll be lucky if you end up in the one unit on Fort Sill that goes to the middle east or in Fort Bragg.

@GeekBoy034 жыл бұрын
@@DozSkills That is odd. The Battalion I was in, 6/32 FA was originally at Fort Sill, then was moved to Fort Bliss. I would think Fort Bragg and Lewis would not have enough space to practice shooting rockets. Fort Bliss would make sense because of White Sands Missile Range. In fact, when I was in, they did the first testing of the MGM-140 ATACMS which replaced the Lance Missiles , the testing was done at White Sands. I knew there was Germany, but was not sure if was still available for that MOS . Korea should still be available. They tried to send me there twice

@@DozSkills I guess they are really downsizing the MOS. During the Iraq invasion, many 13Ms from 6/32 was sent there to be delivery truck drivers. When I was in at Fort Sill, all the motor pools were filled with M270 launchers, and Paladins for the 13Bs. Now if you look on Google, or Bing current satellite images, you will see they are now mostly empty. The ones with vehicles all have mostly HMMWVs in them.

Good luck, currently Fort Sill is pretty cold during morning PT and it's only going to get colder. Also, the AIT battery for 13M schooling is dogshit, the living conditions are above average but the way you are treated compared to the neighboring batterys is complete dogshit. Hopefully leadership changes by the time you get to that point.

I was a Combat Engineer, more specifically a vehicle operator in a Route Clearance company. After I got out, I had no college done but I was able to get a job at a big name tech company as a Data Collection operator for self-driving cars. A lot of tech and car companies utilize data collection vehicles to gather traffic data to train AI software. The team I was on actually had a lot of vets because the skills and how we conducted ourselves was something the company valued when we would deploy our vehicles out on data collection missions, PMCS them, write reports, etc.

@nathanael95362 жыл бұрын
Uh, what? 13m is the MOS. The 142 is a vehicle. So is the 270. It all depends where you go. As a 13M you'll either have the 270 or the 142. Both have their problems, but both are very deadly and useful. I was a 13m and i went to Bragg right after AIT and we have the 142.
