Such an easy job. Did it for 6 years. Both reserve and active duty. SSA, PLL and SPO. While you're in use your TA and get your six sigma certifications. If you can get a degree in supply chain management, go for it. With experience, Six Sigma and actually understanding the basic concepts of Logistics. You'll get out and be able to lock down a job better than AutoZone.

@@abdiade8382 Well, you have a TEAM in the Army, and no one is really slacking off unless they're making appointments every day to get out of work. During workdays, you may have someone processing items, processing returns, or someone outside the warehouse on the forklift doing whatever. The civilian truck drivers unload their own trucks, and pallets are secured, which is much different from Walmart. It can be chill on some days, and hectic on days leading to a field exercise. Sometimes there are Army civilians who work with you in the warehouse who were likely 92A when they were enlisted. I wasn't a 92A, I was an ammunition specialist 89B, but we were in the same platoon as 92A. When we had nothing to do, we would sometimes help the 92A with the physical labor. We still had fun doing it, and they'll be doing Army stuff on certain days, so it's not all work every day. For example, going to the range, sgt time training, etc. Deployments can definitely be more active. They'll stay busy. With Walmart, you don't always have the numbers on your side. You may have less people trying to get things done on top of whatever else they want you to do. The good thing is, after 8 hours, you get to go home. However, if you don't finish, there are consequences. Therefore, you could feel bullied by your employer for giving you heavy workload and expecting good results regardless of the circumstances. When unloading trucks at Walmart, one person is in the truck, and everyone else is taking items off the line and putting items on the items on pallets to go to the sales floor later on. At the end of the day, you take the pallets to the departments. Sometimes management will want you to finish some departments before night shift arrives, so you end up doing their job too. Sometimes you have to work overtime to complete the tasks so you're not written up. The Army's trucks are already sorted out and organized for pickup, so all you have to do is put the pallet in the ordering unit's bin and call them so they can come get it. Some days are more chill at Walmart when you have smaller trucks. When holidays are near, you have bigger trucks. Sometimes you have 2 or 3 trucks. However, the manager could write you up for moving too slowly, or something silly, even though the job is getting done on time. Sometimes the supervisors or managers make remarks like, " I would've had that truck done in 1 hour " instead of helping us. Silly stuff. In the Army warehouse, they're not on your back like that, the sergeants are helping you. Well, more like you're helping them. I used to joke about how Walmart was more military than the military itself. However, no one can make you do pushups if you make a mistake in Walmart. Both 92A and Walmart aren't bad if you have a good team that'll make work fun, or at least 1 or 2 people you like, but leadership is too often a problem at Walmart. Overall, I'd choose 92A over Walmart.

Start getting in shape now. Don't wait. Be able to do 50% better than the minimum fitness standards (before you get there). If you smoke, quit. If you are overweight, lose the weight NOW. Be mentally tough: you will be made to believe everything you do is wrong... When you're right, you're wrong. When you're wrong, you're REALLY wrong. Don't worry about it, just do it! It's not personal, it's just good training. And remember, MILLIONS of people have gotten through it before you, so if they all could survive and pass on to a career in the military, so can you! Thanks for your service, and good luck.

@Amy Johansen look at MOS promotion points Army wide. 92A has some of the highest promotion points to both E5 and E6. Additionally, Quartermaster branch has a ridiculous amount of “Army minutiae” compared to other branches (In this regard, stay clear of Ordnance, too.) This is due to the nature of the branch being oriented toward a support role. I’d suggest Medical Services branch (there are many non-medicine MOS’s) or Signal. If you’re ASVAB is low (92A is a low-ASVAB MOS), tell your recruiter that you want to retest, and if he or she says no, then go to a different recruiter. It’s your future.
