Agreed, but with the caveat that waterfowl and some upland is out unless you swap the mag tube. Too bad, because my 930JM has served me reliably for years and gets used for everything I can possibly use it for (small game, turkey, PD, bear defense, clays, etc.). Excellent, excellent gun.

Run the 940 side by side with a 930 that has the Or3gun Marine Spacer, and an SBE Precision Products stainless steel competition piston. You will be quite surprised by what a tuned 930 is capable of. Just for fun look at the 940 spacer and 940 piston compared to the 930 upgrade parts. See where Mossberg may have drawn some "inspiration"? If you need would like to try the 930 piston please let me know.

Yeah, noticed that too. I have a “tricked out” 930 JM Pro and that “inspiration” is obvious. But what about the redesigned gas piston the 940 has? Does it really works to run it cleaner?

Did they fix the double feed/jam issue on the 940 that the 930 has with having a loaded chamber with a loaded magazine and the bolt release being hit? That larger bolt release button is just begging for it to happen if they didnt.

I was able to make it reliable at -38°C.Buy a S&J Delrin mag follower , grease the shell release pivot point. Check what you can smooth out in the action, cost me around 400 US for the turkey model so I don't mind the extra work to make it 99% reliable.

You should focus on the safety aspect , recheck your chamber . The bolt release isn't to load ammo but to empty the tube quickly . Just don't press it when the bolt is close , the charging handle is the only thing you should use to load on an empty chamber . Be safe , have fun

Again, what happens on a loaded chamber with a closed bolt and a loaded magazine if the oversized bolt release is accidentally hit? The answer is simple, rounds from the mag tube feed into the receiver while the bolt is closed, if you fire the gun, it jams because you have stacked rounds sitting on the elevator. Even if you dont fire the weapon, you have rounds in the receiver you have to somehow clear out on a closed bolt while one is chambered. As you pull the bolt back, your dealing with 2-3 rounds in the receiver at the same time.

@@sinistar426 so I just shot my 940 for the first time today. Out hunting and bumped the button and it dropped the shells into the receiver with a full chamber. Had to completely clear the gun and reload. I’m just being extra careful now to not hit the button in the field

My 930 got many friends shooting a 12ga , will the stock be available for sale ? Mine still runs after 20-30 boxes in an afternoon when most cleaning fudds are done shooting after 4-5 boxes/outing Great product for the price

This looks like a great firearm that has the potential to be better than the benelli m2 or m4 but it could use few changes. Its currently geared only to comp so it limits its usefulness for other things. It could be a great mil/ leo/ home defense gun if it had a slightly shorter barrel 18.5 or 20 with 8 plus one, chrome lined barrel and chamber for rust resistant, and maybe change the shell release to prevent double feeds like what Beretta did with their 1301 pro comp. I'm glad mossberg listened to experts and didn't put ghost rings on it made the loading port bigger and made it more reliable.

I just called Mossberg in May of 2022 and NO 28" barrel is available. Briley will make a 4" barrel extension for you. I plan on ordering an extension from them soon. Hope this helps.

The 4" extension will take up to 2 months because of all the back orders. I haven't ordered 1 yet but will soon.

bought a 930 jm pro and the vent rib was bent like a ffucking banana, great gun in general but a gun that never should've left the factory ended up in my possesion, now i have to send it back and my hair is getting grey.

@@Greytide1 That sounds great that they sorted it out, the problem on my end is that the shipment will take some time since im from Sweden. Did it turn out straight in the end? But im very happy with the shotgun overall.

But wasn't the 930 suppose to be 3 gun out of the box ready. designed by jerry. But no few years go by now jerry & his daughter put input on the 940 with a better port long shoot time between cleaning by 3 times more ammo. I feel i got sold a pile of shit buying my 930!😖

Yes Mossberg must have bought the patent for that piston because I can not find one anywhere and sbe won't respond to any of messages about any being in stock or get one somehow.....
