Very informative! I appreciate you mentioned the Whippet, I've been using Zodias 264UL as my dropshot rod from shore in Tamagawa River (Tokyo), which is pretty shallow. This video has finally convinced me to switch gears to the Whippet. The only "downside" for me is that it is a one-piece rod, which makes it a little uncomfortable for commuting in the rush-hour Tokyo trains. Thank you for the video!

I have both the NRX+ 852 and 872 spinning rods. Everything you said about the NRX+ line is spot on. The new Shimano Expride B 7’ Light (actually a ML+) is the best nose hook drop shot rod I have found, the tip can handle 3/8 oz wts.

I only have one drop shot rod. So I use a dobyns Sierra 703 sf 7’0 medium/fast . It’s really their senko, shakey head rod, but for me it’s a good all around option. Seems more parabolic than a normal fast action

Another fun video! Remember back in the late 90s or in 2000, G. Loomis made a bait casting drop shot rod called the DSR820C. Well, the local tackle shop here pulled one out about six years ago a NOS. I looked at that scratch my head I never seen a drop shot in a bait caster. I had to get it. I’ve been using that for my nose hook drop shot for smallies with a BFS Daiwa real And holy cow it’s a fish catching machine I love that set up. It casts a country mile just lobbying it. Another great advantage of the casting may be over spinning is that you don’t get the line twist as you do with spinning ourfit . I have to use a barrel swivel on my spinning rod to limited and line twist. I love videos like this!

I do a lot of dropshot fishing from shore, and to get out to where the fish are, I typically throw 1/2 oz dropshot sinkers, so I prefer a slightly heavier and longer rod (fast action will cast further than x-fast). I like 7 lb fluoro leader and 10 lb braid on my spinning outfits….also 3000 series reels….if I was fishing on a boat, I’d probably go lighter and shorter on the rod selection, and use 2500 reels.

Love the videos guys, we have pretty similar tastes in dropshot rods. Always wondered why people hate throwing the dropshot, you can target cast it and work it quickly more effectively than dragging a jig imo. One thing that scares me off from the steez rods is those carbon guides. I’m very careful with my stuff and still managed to break one on a legend extreme. My favorite for nose hook is a Dobyns xtasy 7’2” medium light. Just perfect action for nose hooked all the way up to 3/8 ounce imo. Got it paired with a Stella, real boujee

@The Hook Up Tackle You're so right on the not moving the worm... I've caught so many fish just full out ADD looking at a bird or something and just slowly dragging it instead of shaking it. The water current makes it move so natural. Also like you said about the sensitivity, if the tip is too soft it absorbs that vibration. I think that is why NRX+ are so sensitive but so damn stuff.. it's almost better having a fast tip instead of extra fast.. Great rod breakdown though 👌

one of the major problem's is that when you watch videos about rod selection the Pro who is giving advice, does not understand the difference between power and action or just speaks without using the correct term. This leads to confusion and misunderstanding the difference.

Ben, when you say that you prefer the Loomis SYR rod over the DSR, are you referring to the same 822s rod, just in the SYR model? The reason I ask, is that the SYR model is only rated up to 5/16 oz versus the 3/8 oz rating of the DSR. I know that isn't a ton of difference, but I wanted to make sure I was looking at the right model. Thanks

I know someone must of thought of this before, but it seems like just to be different you could bobber stop then just run the line through the hook eye and then sinker. @secretbassrigs

Just bury the hook in the nose instead of popping it out of the top, without switching hooks. Over thinking your rod specifications can be too distracting. If you have the money, or you are tournament fishing, you could use as much confidence you can get. But it should not be necessary for most to have a specific drop shot rod. A 7' med weight, med fast action, 6-8 lb test, works great. I prefer burled cork. You also want to be able to swim with a drop shot. Also, dead sticking a drop shot works great, watching your line instead of feeling for it. It's the best presentation for bedding bass.

@customverno my bank account hurts every week from @TheHookUpTackle lol. They are THE premier US Domestic Market JDM shop. I have both the whipsnake and shakeyhead special. Whipsnake is better for dropping straight down and is a deeper bend (which is why it's called whipsnake) it will toss light lures really well. Shakeyhead has soft tip but slightly more backbone. I found it difficult to decide between the two also, so I got both 🤣 I'd say the shakeyhead is probably better at casting and dragging for bottom contact. Whipsnake dropping vertical but can be used for lighter jerks and cranks because of the deeper bend. Hope that helps! Now to decide between the different lines lol.

Yeah I bought my G-Loomis imx and GL3 rods 30 years ago when they were 150-250 and came with a life time warranty. My friends thought I was nuts for spending that on a fishing rod. They were using Berkley lightning rods, and Shakespeare ugly sticks. I had a Berkley series one, and when I felt the G-Loomis I had to have it. Anyways my point is I am still fishing with my 30 year old G-Loomis rods, and still love them. My friends have bought 10 rods since then and still trying to find fishing rods for under 100 bucks and replacing them every other season. If you fish all the time the initial purchase can be hard to swallow, but you will probably be happy in the long run. That said 670 is a lot even for a G-Loomis, but I will probably buy one when I'm ready for a new rod...jimi
