A simple look at the real map of Australian transportation will show you there are NO tunnels in the Outback (the areas coloured yellow and brown) but there are bridges over seasonal watersheds. Follow the contour lines. Also, the town called Mildura is actually the town called Broken Hill, where the major rail lines intersect. You could rename this town and make us Aussies a lot more comfortable.
