This drink is crazy to make. It was invented in the 1850's by none other than Jerry "The Professor" Thomas either to please a demanding lunatic of a patron or because Jerry Thomas was a bored pyromaniac, the jury is out. It is at the end of the day a very elaborate presentation of a simple drink, otherwise known as a Scotch Skin. A "Skin" is an archaic name for a hot toddy with a lemon twist, and that's really all you wind up with here. Still, there's something wonderful about seeing a bartender juggle huge streaming gouts of flame between a pair of silver mugs, and we all know that's what you're here for, right? So today I make the Blue Blazer, a drink I'm fairly sure is the most dangerous drink in the world. It involves juggling fire after all.
As a Disclaimer: I must strongly advise you NOT to make this drink. Seriously, don't do it. It absolutely is not worth the effort or danger involved and I really don't want people trying to make this thing. Thank you.
In four ceramic mugs:
• 1-2 spoons of demerara sugar each
• one strip of lemon peel each
In Silver "throwing" mugs
5 oz. or 150 ml. Cask Strength Scotch
4 oz. or 120 ml. Boiling Water
Light aflame
Juggle the flaming liquid until the handles are too hot to continue
Divide into ceramic serving mugs
extinguish before serving!

Hey Greg. Hot tip for any type of long, roll type pour from one mug or tin to the other as in this video: Always move the bottom cup or tin instead of the top. Start high and bring it down low. You have much more control over the flow and aim of the liquid this way.

The bar I work at we made a variation of this for our winter menu going from December to January. $20 and we used 2.5oz of Cask-Strength American Brandy. Really delicious and turns heads whenever we start throwing around fire behind the bar

My favorite drinking establishment does a variation of a bourbon blue blazer. But as they are making the drink they let you throw cinnamon and sugar into the drink and fire stream making a cascade of sparks and light!

Yup, we did the same with flaming Sambuca drinks, sparkles have a huge "wow effect". But it's not more dangerous, than getting up from your bed and I was doing it 15 years ago in medium/shitty bar in Poland, so I'm not sure there is anything to get excited about ;P

I love this channel, HTD is a great channel in that it's purely based on skill and content, I stopped watching the channel for about a year ago and I just came back, there are some changes but all in all it's a solid format that's fairly flexible and still inspires creativity and interest in me today. This channel is truly an honest one without drama or politics and I give it a resounding thumbs up.

I love how you can just barely see it boiling when he pours it in slow motion! I don't even drink alcohol but this is beautiful.

I’ve had a version of this in a great little cocktail bar in Canberra, Australia called Molly’s. When they make it they use two small saucepans with handles that reduce the risk of setting the bar tender on fire ;) More importantly, they hold the pouring container at shoulder height, start with receiving container next to it, then slowly move the receiving container down. This has MUCH more control than moving the pouring container, and still looks awesome.

After a lot of practising and failing at rolling drinks, I learned that the best way to do it is with the mug you're pouring from, start up high and keep that one still while pouring, and then follow the stream with the lower cup, wayyy less spillage, especially when it's on fire. Happy drinking!
