There’s no shame in Fujin losing to Taven who’s like a Hercules kind of dude for the MK series but an empowered Shinnok losing to the school girl rookie Cassie Cage pretty easily...now that is pretty humiliating & hard for me not to see as just bad writing no offense to Cassie she's alright in my book.

It’s worse when KZfaqrs or websites advertise them as fully disposable rather then tell folks useful information or give them a fair chance there isn't even any constructed critism for how to update them ideas. I don’t mean all of them but fans especially newer NRS fans for this series don't get very useful facts on these characters so they go based on biased opinions and declare them as irredeemable failures that have nothing to work with and jump to conclusions. when stuff like this proves there's worth in them bringing back these 3D characters so what if there under developed. why's that a valid reason not to include them in future MK entries and simply update them, Because most of the popular NRS reps also fall under that criteria so are they also irredeemable as well simply for being underdeveloped if not then isn't that hypocritical to give them a free pass but not the 2000 era 3D reps?.

I think the word your looking for is a Gary Stu which is the male version of that word. But in Taven’s defense he’s more experienced than Cassie is and yet she can take down an empowered Shinnok for whatever reason by her self despite being a rookie we’re as he’s probably got years of training under his belt similar to Lui Kang.

He's a demigod for the Elder Gods' sakes, of course he's that powerful. But in his defense, he trains throughout the campaign in the obelisks so of course he isn't channeling some ass-pull like what Mary "Rey" Sue did in the Disney Trilogy.

Always love his interaction with Sub Zero. Him and Shujinko were probably the 'only' friends he made through the entire story

he attempted to prevent armageddon but it sadly failed, as when he beat blaze, the power he was supposed to get (either stripping powers from all kombatants or killing them all) split into all of the fighters and made them all even more powerful. of course, in mk9 it looks like this still ended up happening but taven was nowhere to be seen. i guess ed boon really doesnt like taven.

It's because he's AAA, not indie. Of course he'd put a plot hole in every story line of MK ever.

Hmm, personally I could see an updated Taven having his dragon motif, blessed armor and his drakesword emphasized a bit more. For one, give him a full set of armor other than just the torso piece that has a golden dragon aesthetic to it, with some adornments that have symbols pertaining to either Orin or even one of Delia’s, for she was the one who made the arm, a helmet that could resemble Orin (inspired by Guts’s own helmet looking wolf-like), and perhaps even a cape just because it could look cool on him, basically having him look like a knight since there’s not really many armored characters in MK besides Hotaru, who’s moreso a mixture of a knight and a samurai. As for his sword, I don’t think you’d need to change much, but perhaps it could be made a bit bigger, at least around the same size as a claymore sword to emphasize this man’s godly strength. As for personality, we can keep what he has for now, being snarky and confident yet unknowing and even a bit impatient. To add a bit more flair to that however, perhaps that confidence could be heightened a bit to where it goes along the lines of arrogance, having him be a fearless warrior who will gladly show you his strength, being a bit showboaty, which can be partly from his godly lineage (which where Rain probably gets his attitude from). I think this could be a good way to flair up his personality because not only is it more defined, but it can also be a useful tool to show how Taven has changed around the end, beginning as a confident warrior to now being a broken man from all that has happened to him and his close ones. As for abilities, although he has fire abilities, something that’s not really that unique in the MK universe, I think we could utilize his fire magic to have it be more of a tool to enhance himself and his attacks. He has that entrance animation where he comes out of a portal and does a landing punch to the ground. That could be one of his moves, but he could have an enhanced version where it crates a strong explosion of flames. Another example for some abilities is that he could have an ability similar to that fireball move he has, but instead its a frontal projectile made from a flaming slash of the drakesword, something like Cloud’s neutral special from Super Smash Bros. The regular one could stagger the opponents and burn them, but the enhanced version (which could have a visual detail of the sword heating up and turning hot orange) could have him create a faster and more powerful projectile that explodes on impact and launches the opponent back. Those are my two cents on how Taven could be updated to have a bit more to him, or at least what I can come up with, but I’m always interested to see what others can come up with.

I did, and you are correct about that. Daegon was also important as he founded the Red Dragon Clan, which was so crucial in the two previous games. In my mind, I can’t call any of them bad, Taven and Daegon make my top 30 characters and Shujinko is in my top 10 characters.

Being important to the plot doesn't mean a character is good by default. That's some elementary level logic. I played the hell out of those games and I can't recall a single interesting thing about Taven or Shujinko

Originally Taven succeeded until NRS retconned it to Shao Kahn. Rain's ending in MK11 is non canon and in Armageddon Taven defeated him 1v1 so Rain is weaker than Taven

Deadly Alliance was MK5, Deception was MK6, and Armageddon was MK7. MK8 was actually Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. I agree with everything else, additionally I love MKD’s Chess Kombat. Creative and fun, would’ve been sweet if it had been its own side game released at the same time as Armageddon.

In the same game we see Raiden fighting for the good side ate the pyramid so yes he failed to stop Taven ending his deal with Shao Khan

Fun fact: If you complete all the monolith challenges in MKA’s Konquest as well as the main story, Taven ends up fighting and defeating every single boss and sub-boss in the entire game (He fights Moloch and Motaro in the Netherrealm monolith and fights Shao Kahn in the Outworld monolith) except for Onaga.

Yes. Taven is Like Kratos before He Became a Full God post God of War 1 and After Beginning of God of War 2 and Until End of Gow 2 after he retouched the Blade of Olympus to Regain his God of War Powers.
