Originally born in Madrid, Spain, I moved to the United Kingdom to teach Spanish and improve my English language skills. Having lived in England for several years I've learned the variations in speech and language of both Spanish and English. When I first came to work and live in Spain in 2005, I had an intermediate level of Spanish, despite having a Spanish mother and having passed the AS Level Spanish exam. I quickly found out the hard way how limited my Spanish language skills were. I had to learn fast and it hurt! Above all, it hurt my jaw and muscles in my face were aching for about 6 months! Regarding some classic gaffs in Spanish, there are some words that can cause outbursts of laughter if you use them incorrectly. I made the mistake to say: "me está echando un polvo" instead of "estoy hecho polvo". The word "polvo" can have a few interesting meanings...

5:45 en Chile decimos preservantes, para preservar la duracion de los alimentos por ejemplo. Es mas facil confundir con preservativos

Me alegra que te he encontrado, porque has sido mucho tiempo que lo he practicado el español. A pesar de tener certificación universitaria en español, creo que lo hablo muy mal. Ha sido casi 3 años que he usado español con mucha frecuencia. Durante la pandemia, no tenía que usar español en mi vida diaria, que he olvidado mucho. A veces cuando leo mis papeles universitarios, no puedo recordar unas palabras.

Omg, it's the same with preservatives in my native language (Bulgarian), also other similarities I can relate and can't say here. Which reminds me to sit on my *** and ghostwrite some awkward stories as a stand up again. Great video Patry. Y gracias for enlighten me how to reach the link. The last one I learned very quickly after asking my then partner if he fancied some chicken that evening at the butcher's counter in the supermarket. He looked horrified and the butcher started howling with laughter 😂

The word that got LL in the middle Like( Pollo) l heard some pronouncing it as YY sound some pronounce with GG sound which one is the correct pronunciation

In Croatian 'trudna' means 'pregnant' but in old Slovene it means 'tired'. :D

Hmmm yo he oído a mi madre decir: “no me calientes” (no me enfades) o “me tienes calentita” (me tienes enfadada) 😂👍🏻 pero caliente tal cual nunca lo hd oído, lo malinterpretaría seguro!

@@patryruiz. si: bien podrías decir "estoy re caliente! he chocado el auto" No sé si ese "re" para enfatizar es típico argentino o se usa en otros lados.

@@patryruiz.En República Dominicana mi país si dices que estás "caliente " es que estás borracho. Especialmente si ven o estás en un lugar donde vendan bebidas alcohólicas. Si hace calor solo decimos "tengo calor".

Anyway, spanish people used to know these common false friends and normally they will understand that you aren't horny... So in case you really are, please insist.
