You're on the Dashing Axe Channel and this time, without any doubt, we have the most challenging, expensive, excruciating, and smart table in the history of the channel. Thousands of holes, hundreds of meters of fiber optics, a hundred touch sensors, all this took half a year, and made half the team's eyes twitch, but in the end we got a table that has no analogues in the world, enjoy.

at the art academy someone made an analogue version of this, with a thin film of oil and a flexible table top, so when pushing on top of the table, you could manipulate the oil film. that was mesmerizing stuff, this has the same visceral effect on me, simple, touch sensitive, and an object that responds to your touch. Love it to bits. Please take us along more in how you design and develop this. Great stuff!

I hate to say this, these videos are all really impressive and a joy to watch, but it all feels really brought down by how you treat the comment section. A pinned comment, info in the description, or a video update, literally anything would've been better than replying to every single comment with the same message. It just makes everything feel really cheap and somewhat untrustworthy, almost like some sort of a scam. I'm sure that is not the intention at all, but it comes across like spam and that's really not a good look. Either way, impressive build, and I hope your Kickstarter does well!

Oh fuck man, that opening shot is terrifying! Freehand ripping a board on the table saw with no fence! That's a really good technique for getting a nasty case of kickback. The project is awesome, just use proper safety so you can keep making awesome projects with all your fingers and no internal hemorrhaging. There are lots of jigs you can make to put the first straight edge on a board like that. I don't say this as an armchair KZfaq safety commenter, teaching people to use power tools safely has been my actual job for the past 7 years.

How are you supposed to use a fence when both edges are live? He's free handing the cut because he's following a line drawn down the middle.

Agree, this is a good use case for the track saw. Alternatively a clamp sled could be used, but the board looked a bit long for that.

Watching people parkour across rooftops is terrifying! Sorry. Nothing is perfectly safe, even with 'proper' safety devices in place. It just reduces the chance of injury. Sometimes greatly. But you make it sound like he was about to die! Yes he could have gotten hurt, bruises, broken bones, laceration, amputation. Nobody wants that. But those risks are always there when working with any dangerous machinery. Pretty much all machinery. I've been hit by kickbacks three times and didn't even get a bruise. I was very suprised. And that was with almost everything you would suggest for a table saw and the saw I was using even had anti kickback teeth plus other safety devices that a saw like he's using doesn't have. Stave Mill. It can take as little as a dull blade or even knotty wood to cause a kickback. Even though his saw is different from what I used that opening shot didn't look terrifyingnis all I'm saying. It looked like a skilled operator working, though maybe not safe as he could most possibly be. I could maybe see it looking that way to companies because they have to pay for worksite accidents. I'm surprised you didn't mention the lack of a blade guard.

@@ceruleansin77 you make a simple straight line rip jig, or use a track saw, or use a jointer, or use a hand plane to straighten out the edge. Lots of good techniques are available. You could even use a router guided by a straight edge. KZfaq has lots of good videos on these techniques!

@@arucarddimples1944 look, tool safety is my literal job. The lack of blade guard is a choice I understand. I don't always use one because it can get in the way of safely controlling the lumber. But free hand ripping on the table saw is just stupid. It's asking for trouble, when there are incredibly easy ways to make a quick jig or use a different tool and get that edge straightened out. Of course nothing is perfectly safe, all of life is a complex risk management puzzle. There are ways to do things like parkour with relative safety, or at least ways to do it stupidly that add unnecessary risk. I'm a mountain biker and paraglider pilot. I've got the litany of broken bones to show for it, but I've learned how to avoid pushing myself too far outside my skill level, and I wear good safety equipment. Ripping free hand on the table saw is like hitting a technical downhill section on a hike without a helmet. Sure, you might get away with it, but it's an unnecessarily stupid risk when wearing a helmet or making a rip jig is so damn easy.

@@axes_garage That was a bit of a delayed response. I like the effect and that you guys put so much effort and creativity into your work. But you took a long road to reach minimal results. Something that cold have been easier to accomplish with a high def LCD display and software which could give a variety of options. Use a touch screen and expand that further for interactivity. But thank you for the content and taking the time to read and respond to viewer comments. Adding a personalized flavor is always helpful. The table top you guys made with the hexagons was awesome I loved that one. Could you also make it change colors depending on what it's sensing? It seems to operate similarly to a metal detector. So it shouldn't be to difficult to make it differentiate the impedance of what it's sensing.
