My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

If Chickanic's trick does not work for you, remove the old fuel from the tank. Get you some Mechanic in a Bottle and pour some into the tank. Push the primer bulb about a dozen times to circulate the solution thru the carb. Let it sit over night. Next day add fresh fuel to the tank and it will start right up. It's very simple. Even better tip: always use ethanol free gas and you will never have this problem at all

That old snapper rider brings back memories of a dear old friend of mine. He had same snapper and cutting his lawn was therapy for him. He had a smile on his face the whole 3/4 of an acre. He also was a bee keeper, and grafted an apple tree to have four different apples. He owned and ran a popular bar and grill on a state university campus in new center Detroit. He’s in his nineties now and is doing about as good as you can that old.

All of my gasoline equipment is kept full of gas and I run them at least every two weeks. They are kept at the door of my shop so they are not "out of sight, out of mine". My gasoline generator is run monthly, under varying loads until it runs out of the pint of gasoline I put in it. I have NEVER had an issue with any generator I have ever owned doing this routine. At the end of the season, I empty the fuel and run the engine until it stalls out. Then it's ready to store for the winter. Spring time I give it some fresh fuel and BAM, it starts and runs as intended. I do the same for my ATVs. Top off the fuel tank and turn off the petcock and run the ATV dry. Never had an issue with them in over 39yrs.! Good tips, keep them coming! P.S. I also use non-ethanol gas in my yard equipment engines and ATVs.

They advise me if you do not run the 2 stroke at least once per month, drop all fuel run it dry and hang it up. I never had to tinkle with this doing this , just add new fresh fuel and prime, pull the damm cord 2-5 things and it should start by the next pull.

This is actually a good technique to also do on any carb engine where you think there is a particle of dirt clogging one of the jets. Doing this will help pull fuel thru the jets and other orifices harder and poss dislodge the dirt. On a snow blower without a filter or choke that closes completely, you’ll need to use a gloved hand under the carb cover to do this technique. Protect yourself against flame backs.

I love the tip. Didn’t know about hitting the choke like that. I always just kept bumping the throttle until it frees up and once it does I peg it until it gets up to rpm. A little tip about 2 strokes, if you are tuning an engine and it goes from too rich to too lean and you can’t get it right, the carb needs rebuilt. Stop and take it to a shop or rebuild it. Could go lean and blow it up if your not careful

A simpler way is to just winterize it correctly with fog lubricate or use carb cleaner to spray in the carb at start up. If the fuel is bad choking it out will make it worse.

Every fall, I run the mower until it dies, change the oil, clean and gap the plug, lube the wheels and throughly clean under and top. Check the drive belt. Twin blade Honda push. New gas in the spring and starts with a half pull every time. Its 9 years old and runs and looks like new.

I had my chainsaw bog like that last time I used it. I just let it idle for a few minutes. That is a great tip to know.

Trick worth noting. IRT tools, ICE tools will get even cheaper as small IC engine equipment gets phased out for battery power.

Local shop? $30 bucks?? LOL I've never walked out of there with them quoting $90-$125.00 and 4-6 weeks! That's why I taught myself how to fix things and then came across a family who had kids the same age. We became friends and the husband was a mechanic for everything, he would help me with more difficult issues. I'll throw something away and buy new before going to my local shops. Just wish KZfaq and creators like you were around back in the day I'll give you a hint" kid! " LOL Thanks for content! I haven't thrown anything away lately.

I discovered that by mistake. Another thing is to empty the fuel into a clean glass quart jar through a coffee strainer, and pour it back, stopping short of re-introducing the water that separates to the bottom.

I usually during the cold season I usually start my lawn equipment about every 2 weeks and let it run for about 5 minutes and have no problems. But my craftsman weed eater was running fine then about a month ago it just stopped running. It's sounds like it lost spark cause it sounds like I have to plug wire off it just turns over. So I bought a Husqvarna weed eater runs fine but of course it has the defective speed head that binds the string
