Most Popular Song in Europe Each Month of the '60s

Based on the charts of the UK, Germany, Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain. I chose a different song for each month to make the countdown more interesting and diverse, despite the fact that in reality a few songs were the most popular ones for 2 or 3 consecutive months.

Interesting: I was born in 1965 but recognize nearly every song here. It ought to mean that the songs were so good people continued to listen to them, buy the records and ask for them to be played on the radio. The quality of the music from the sixties surpasses a lot of the music from later days, IMO. The Beatles, of course, are outstanding, but other musicians made memorable songs that are still popular. Btw - I thought Dusty Springfield would be on the list.

This channel might find each country's presentation of the first worldwide TV hookup by Satelite.. Aug 67 it went around from country to country.. UK presented The Beatles with "All You Need Is Love" written especially for the occasion .. mad I was 11yo. At lest 10 sigers came from Liverpool and the Welsh Mersey side .. don't know what they put in the water ???

Same happened with all renewers... but this is a nice line up. Some more BeeGees. A lack of the talented Moody Blues! And the young Heintje is missing: Ich bau dir ein Schloss. And: Mama.

As all songs were familiar to me, it also showed, this compilation indeed reflected Europe's continent. Not the British Isles! Missing, Buddy Holly was number 1 in Ireland 1963, and 4 in the UK and in many continental hitparades. So you forgot the most influential artist who gave us most pop music variety we know up to this day! From R&R to Ballads!

Buddy Holly was successful in the '50s, until the year of his death (1959). In the '60s he only had 2 UK top singles and none of his songs reached number 1 in Ireland in 1963: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_number-one_singles_of_1963_(Ireland)

@@somerandomguy_music Make a handsome bet, 'Brown eyed handsome man' made it to nr 1 in Ireland post mortem, 1964, as you are a know better person, go to the tittle brown eyed handsome man the Buddy Holly version wikipedia, it clearly states it peeked at number 3, could well be Bo Diddley peaked one then. Ps, but there were more hitparades published then, as I then presided the Buddy Holly Appreciation Society. But maybe wisdom comes with the years ?

No Buddy Holly single went to number one in Ireland in 1964 either: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_number-one_singles_of_1964_(Ireland) I'm not a know better person, I just stick to facts that can be easily verified. Maybe you are biased because you presided the Buddy Holly Appreciation Society?

Thank you very much, with this compilation I can expand my mp3 collection again, which currently only goes back to 1965. However, I missed a hit from 1967: Whistling Jack Smith - I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z96jdZWQzN_biKs.htmlsi=vEV8T5-pYwi52cty )

'I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman' was successful but didn't stand a chance against all the Beatles songs.

Not necessarily. "Crying In The Chapel" was a great worldwide success in June 1965, but it would be necessary to see how much impact it had in Europe, since this video refers to that geographical region. For example, "From Me To You" by The Beatles was also very successful, #1 for 7 weeks in 1963, but only in the United Kingdom, which is why it does not have enough merit to be included in this video.

Toda la música cambia radicalmente con la llwgada de los Beatles y la gente los sigue descalificando. No saben el contexto histórico
