Epica, Nightwish and Within Temptation were top 3 for more than 10 years! Wow

After Forever broke up a long time ago, the hype around them in 2022-23 is only because of Floor.

Quite surprised that Epica never spiked to the top spot - they are definitely the 2nd best known symphonic metal band

Nightwish... my favourite band for more than 20 years now... then WT, Epica, Sonata Arctica, Delain, Kamelot... what an awesome genre...

Of course the almighty Nightwish occupying their throne since forever! Favorite band til death!

It's interesting to watch because if you followed this genre all this time, you kind of know why things were trending down or up at certain times (like album releases, hiatuses, lineup changes, taking a break to do a movie, etc...)

EPICA, my absolute favourite symphonic metal band, foverer and ever! I say "favourite symphonic metal band" because I have two favourite bands, the other one are the kings of folk metal Eluveitie. Of course it is a matter of taste and every single band is very talented and good in their own way!

Therion very constant, discrete numbers but always present in the list. Haggard surprises me, with so few albuns, always at the top.

Therion is still the Best for Me. The Founder of Symphonic Metal Genre.

What makes Nightwish so special even among all symphonic metal bands is the typical "Nightwish-style". I never discovered any band that was somewhat similar. Maybe one or two songs from some bands but that's it

Curioso que Haggard no saca un álbum desde 2008 y aún se mantiene vigente como referencia del Symphonic Metal.

Starting at 2003. I feel old. I remember going to Within Temptation in 1995 before they got big. I'm also missing various bands I personally always considered in the same genre, like Lacuna Coil, Theatre of Tragedy and The Gathering.

I can't believe Dimmu Borgir and Apocalyptica were never around

I have always thought that the 4 pillars of symphonic metal are Epica, Nightwish, Therion and Haggard. Btw, Epica is my favorite band since I was 13 yo, and I’m now 30

What a great video. I was sure Rhapsody had more popularity, but I was wrong.

The thing I take from this is "who the heck are Haggard?" I'm off to have a listen now. Every other symphonic band that popped up, and more that didn't, I know so well, but Haggard seems to have escaped me till now...

I love Epica and I hope after all their hard work at concerts this year they get to have the #1 spot for a little bit… But Nightwish Within Temptation and Epica all have to be aware of how fast beyond the black hit #4 in 2019! I am interested in checking out Haggard. I don't think I have ever heard of them, surprisingly with how popular they have been over the years. Twilight Force is the only other band that appeared in the video that I've never listened to, that I know of.

Rhapsody (of Fire) from Legendary Tales to Symphony of Enchanted Lands Pt 2 is the greatest symphonic metal outside of Nightwish.

Although the old Within Temptation could be considered Metal the band did say they consider themselves Symphonic Rock not Symphonic Metal. Even though that may be the case overtime they did move away from Metal. They always did some crossover stuff but these days they are more pop imo.

Minha banda preferida nem é mais o Nightwish, mas ainda é uma "das" e esse resultado é justo nessa pesquisa. Pra mim, a história da banda com a saída da Tarja e o caso de superação pessoal do Tuomas, somados aos 5 álbuns, com no mínimo de 4 preferidas músicas. Pra mim,ficou justo.

The different eras of nightwish are really recogniseable. I must admit, they were my favourite band until Tharia left in 2006, so I was part of that drop right there.

As a recent symphonic metal fanboy (23 years old), this made me realize how much more niche than it used to be this genre now is :(

Kamelot is a prog/power metal band, Sonata is a power metal band, Beyond the Black bearly passes for metal with the later albums after the lineup change(i am not saying they aren't good, just doesn't sound like metal to me). i mean the lines are kinda blurry but still.

usually all (symphonic) metal bands benefit from Nightwish, because Nightwish has masses of iconic songs which reach much more than others also non-metal fans and can make them curious/open for more/others ...

Its curious but in my case I started with Nightwish as one of my favorites, but some years pass and in some point I start loving Epica a bit more (at the pont of be one of my favorite bands), I mean, since Design your universe I loved all their albums. Maybe too is that I have more special memories attached to them, starting with them being invited to a festival in my country in 2008...that was my first time watching a band of metal, live. With The divine conspirancy I tried to listen it again and again, but it made me loose interest in Epica, until 2016 I got curious and start listening their other albums, loving all of them...all that years of cool music and two other shows on my country...I loose all of that for not being interested on The divine conspirancy...since them I try to be patiente with all the bands I listen to, if one album don't catch my atention, it doesn't mean that the next one could not. On 2018 I could go to a concert and know them in a M&G...they were all nice. I guess they resonate more with me in more than one way. As someone say, it's a matter of taste 😁

I was checking out After Forever, Floor’s band before she joined Nightwish and was seeing it jojo in the top 10 charts but in these last few years parallel to Floors rise to fame it even reached the no1 position about 10 or more years after it ceased to be a band! Like myself I suppose many more reached back to old videos to check out the band and discover their music.

I love how Nightwish is dominating all almost the entire time xD And Within Temptation a couple of times, too. I was confused about After Forever, though since they broke up long time ago. Probably due to Floor herself popping up alongside After Forever long after it broke up. Just her name is enough💪 It's awesome to see that Nightwish, Within Temptation and Epica ruled in the top 3 the entire timespan 🤘😎🤘

My personalfavourites in no particular order and across any symphonic subgenre Emperor Limbonic Art Epica Sirenia Therion Haggard Virgin Black Septicflesh Followed by Diabulus in Musica, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Tristania, MaYaN as honorable mentions I do really like Xandria, also like Nightwish, Amberian Dawn and early WT but less so than the uppermentioned

What happened in 2022 and 2023 with After Forever that they shot to the top for a second?

Sad because my favorite one is Sirenia and they cannot be popular no matter how they try 😢. But EPICA is my favorite second one an they're always on the three first places ❤❤❤❤

This is one my favorite genres ever, and one of the most expensive and difficult to produce in an original way: in fact there's a huge music quality gap between those bands really employing an orchestra (mostly the 5-6 consistently at the top) and the rest, usually resorting on keyboards that emulate the sounds of the top 3, which almost alone defined what this kind of music is

It's crazy to see just how big Nightwish is/was compared to everyone else. It's hard to beat when someone's gone so popular, they're even playing your music on the radio for the non-metal folks. :P But... is Sonata Arctica really a symphonic metal band? Not speed/power?

Nightwish (Floor Jansen) , Within Temptation, Sirenia, Xandria, Epica & Delain. Always & forever.

Not to discredit any of these bands and their popularity, but any list that's solely based on internet searches will certainly favor some bands way more than others. "Haggard", for example, is a single word that may be googled for whatever reason other than actually checking this band out. Meanwhile, "After forever" just so happens to also be the name of a movie that came out in 2022, thereby spiking interest in the name for completely different reasons. Luckily, most bands in the genre has very unique names though, so the rest of the list may be fairly accurate.

Someday, you will see a band called Phoebus the Knight in this kind of vids, mark my word 🤘 (small, for now, band from France I grew fond of, one of the most awesome recent symphonic metal band out there)

my top three would've been Epica over Nightwish because I'm not a huge fan of Nightwish sadly, Old Kamelot do miss the original singer of Kamelot then fight between Xandria or Delain as my top three choices that are on repeat for me. Though I have never heard of Haggard before would they be worth checking out?

How did Sonata get here? It is pure power metal
