Methodology
1) I gathered data from walkingdead.fandom.com/wiki/TV_Series_Characters. The .csv files containing search interest values were downloaded from Google Trends for every character.
2) Ammount Search Tool determined the average monthly search volume for every character.
3) The number of searches per month for each calendar year were proportioned based on official reports from Google.
4) Data modeling through an algorithm invented by me to obtain the most realistic data possible.
5) Search interest values and proportioned monthly search volumes were placed in Excel for calculations.
6) The data was placed into Flourish Studio to create the data visualization piece.
7) Image and audio assets were added with Wondershare Filmora.

@@kl9686 Daryl isn't supposed to be a main character though. The show only had two main characters up until season 8. Rick and Carl. The others were side characters but that changed fast and look where the show is now. It's ratings average 6.9/10 for seasons 8-11 after the change.

@@tej_4809 Negan executed the main characters right hand man and the chad of the group with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire 💀. He also basically enslaved hundreds of people and had a group of wives who didn't even want to be his wife. The only good trait about him was that he was somewhat merciful and had some solid rules.

Shane represented where Rick and the rest of the group after the farm would turn out after the season 2 finale. After Shane’s death Rick slowly became like him & the turning point was Lori’s death.

If they went for Fort Benning from the beginning they probably wouldn't find Hershel's farm or the prison and the story would have take a different turn in my opinion. I'm not saying that shane was right or wrong bc we don't know what would have happen. I just say it would have be different ;)

yes! that's the exact group for me. Rick, Daryl, Glenn, Maggie, Michonne, Carol and Carl. Watching it over the other characters come and go, but those seven are what I held on for, and what I went back for. (Though Hershel was awesome and I thought Dwight was super underrated)

I’m very happy Maggie consistently stayed in the top 3. She is definitely my favorite character and her and Negan’s whole relationship is without a doubt the most interesting part of the show to me. The only spin off I’m actually excited for is theirs.

I found Maggie to be so annoying after Glenn died she just always so bitter and upset non-stop (understandable why but not fun to watch for many seasons). When they started building on Maggie and negans relationship in season 10, I really started to like Maggie a lot more. Now with the spin-off though they seemed to have gone back on that character development between Maggie and negan in season 10 which is a bit annoying. But then seeing Maggie just trying to be a good parent and really trying was nice to see as you don’t see her being a parent as much in twd. Anyway it just baffles me Maggie stayed so consistently at the top for so long considering her character changes

Maggie being so popular is surprising, as is Shane. The Governor being so popular for so long is also kinda crazy. I expected Merle to be more popular, especially after his face-turn. I also think Rosita and her ass should be two characters - which might change that top three dynamic.

Loved Abraham and was more upset to see him go than Glenn in a way. We all were sort of prepared for Glenn's death in a way but I felt like Abraham still had some stuff he needed to do on the show and hadn't been fully utilized. I think he deserved to go out in the All Out War storyline doing something heroic that would lead them to victory, not executed the way he was.

Fun fact: Daryl wasn't even supposed to exist! Norman Reedus really wanted to be a part of The Walking Dead and auditioned for Merle, but they already casted Michael Rooker for the role, but he was so good that the writers decided to make a character just for him, which ended up being Daryl! In short: Daryl Dixon was literally created for Norman Reedus!

@Xanth Miller Glenn is my 2nd favorite character after Rick and the only way for him to survive imo would be if they would kill Maggie instead (which would be brutal due to her being pregnant and unlikely because Negan would pick the toughest guys to die, not a pregnant woman), he got his comic death as well and it's the best episode they've ever made in TWD. They had to hit hard on S7 E1. I would have loved to have Glenn till the end but him and Maggie both alive would be too good to be true.

Carol... one of the best developed "strong WAMYN" characters out there. She grew.. she adapted.. she changed.. and she BECAME a total badass. Honestly.. Carol is my go-to whenever people talk about strong female characters done correctly.

I’m in complete shock that Carol didn’t overtake The Governor until S9. And Rick was always behind Maggie and didn’t even overtake her in S9??!?!? I guess since their final episodes (for the time) were at the same time I can understand it, but it’s still wild to me.

The reason why he is not at the top is because he is dead yes he was one of the best characters at the time but when people figure out that he wanted to get of the show broke everyone. And plus Maggie came back as a bad ass everyone was happy to know that she was pregnant and ready to make another Glenn. Plus Daryl is the one keeping everyone from doing dumb stuff. And negan might have kill her but he was such a bad ass believe it or not

Maggie came as a badass yeah but the hype for her wasn't as big as Glenn's neither was Negan's hype compared to Glenn's or Daryl's hype. I see this list very flawed in many aspects.
