Athena actually had a mother. It was Metis who was Zeus's first wife. She was the daughter of a titan but helped the Olympians during the war between the olympians and the titans. After the war, she married Zeus and got pregnant. However, Zeus got a prophecy that having a child with Metis, especially a son, would result with the son taking over Zeus's throne. So, Zeus impulsively swallowed Metis while she was pregnant and gave birth to Athena in Zeus's body. Athena wanted to escape Zeus's body so she kicked the inside of his head which caused Zeus to get a migrane. Hephaestus cut open Zeus's head with an axe which was when Athena popped out. In conclusion, Athena had a mother but her mother was canibbalized by her father while pregnant. Since Athena popped out of Zeus's head, she technically didn't have a mother or something like that. Hope this helps!

Athena did have a mother: the nymph-Titaness of wisdom, Metis. Zeus had been told a prophecy about Metis, that she would bear him a daughter wiser than her mother and a son stronger than his father, so he tricked her into turning into a fly before swallowing her whole. While he was able to prevent the second part of the prophesy from happening, he was too late to stop the prophecy entirely as he had already impregnated Metis before swallowing her in fly form. Metis birthed and raised Athena inside Zeus' mind before Athena was later born from Zeus' head fully grown.

I don't think Zeus and Hades hated each other. they are brothers who defeated the Titans together and they both rule vitally important parts of the world, plus Hades by long tradition was supposed to rule from above but willingly gave up his birthright after drawing sticks with his siblings. Hades got the shortest stick, Zeus the longest. plus it seems they had respect for each other.

Hercules is more like a hero figure than God honestly, He was not worshipped actually that much, people rarely found his temples or myths related where he had acted as god. Where dionysus is actually 85% god most probably, because His maternal grandmother Harmonia was Ares's daughter technically, from Dionysus is Ares's Great grandson, His father Cadmus was Poseidon's grandson. So technically Dionysus was a lot more godly than Hercules.

Great video, if you make one on strongest greek demigods and monsters I would highly recommend Chrysoar, son of Poseidon and Medusa and Pegasus' twin brother. He's known as the warrior with the golden sword, was practically unbeatable with his swordsman skills, father to a few monsters (and he was considered a monster by the ancient greeks), best friend of Ares, had the ability to turn into a giant or a winged boar, was immortal, and his friendship with Ares was probably the only thing that prevented him from destroying Olympus since he was a tough guy to beat, a few gods ruined and even help end his mother's life and possibly his father might have kidnapped his wife for himself.

Everyone becomes a subject of Hades's eventually. not everyone is a subject of Zeus and/or Poseidon. Hades and Persephone still had the most wholesome relationship among the gods. Even with is mother in law giving him an icy stare. But I do think there should have been an honorable mention for the top spot to go to The Fates; Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos. The goddesses of destiny. Not even Zeus could get them to change their minds. They also are also the ones that decided even the gods fates.

I'm surprised that Nemesis the Primordial Goddess of Vengeance, and Retribution wasn't on here as not only was she Nyx's firstborn child making her the elder sibling of Thanatos, Hypnos, Eris, and the Fates but all 12 Olympians including the big 3 Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades have a healthy mix of fear and respect for her. Heck according to one myth Hera due to being in one of her infamous Yandere rages convinced herself that Helen as in the infamous Helen of Troy was the daughter of Zeus due to him having affair with another woman, and the woman Hera thought was Helen's mother was Nemesis and Hera deciding to use common sense made the call to not ruin Helen's life, along with making another smart call in choosing not to accuse/confront Nemesis over this supposed affair due to fearing that if she pulled these stunts Nemesis would bring her vengeful wrath down on her.

In the actual mythology, Hades and Zeus don't hate each other. Sure, you can say Hades wasn't too happy having to draw sticks to see who would rule what part the world, the fact that he willingly did it and never challenged Zeus shows that out of all the Greek Gods, *Hades* is actually the best of the bunch. His only real "evil" deed was the kidnapping of his wife/niece, Persephone and binding her to the Underworld...but Persephone never had to worry about him cheating on her and it's likely the whole "binding to the Underworld" was something she did willingly so as not to lose her Queenship, the one thing she had her mother didn't. And really in those days, bride kidnapping was part of the ancient Greek culture as a whole. Reasons why they did that vary, but it definitely wasn't unusual or frowned upon as it is today. But when Pirithous tried to do the same, you can bet Hades protected her furiously. Could he have taken Zeus? Sure. But unlike a lot of brothers, Hades accepted his lot and appreciated what he had: unlike Zeus.

Persephone wasn’t stuck in the underworld, she willingly joined Hades to his realm. Demeter was so upset she went to Zeus. He asked Persephone to return to her mother, which she refused. They did however come to an agreement: Persephone was to stay for 6 months with her husband in the underworld, and the other 6 months she was to join Demeter back in the world of the gods and humans and fulfill her task as the goddess of spring. Because of this there is a 6 month period where almost nothing grows due to Persephone being in the underworld. During the other 6 months crops are able to grow because Persephone is doing her job as goddess of spring and Demeter isn’t sad that her daughter isn’t with her.

Persephone waltzing down to the Underworld herself came from a Charlene Spretnak’s Lost Goddesses: A Collection of Pre-Hellenic Myths in the very old era of 1978 in her *very* washed-down myths book that she wrote for her daughter, nerfing and kid-friendly-ifying the myths so all the assault and kidnapping and badonkadonk shenanigans wasn’t an issue. In the older Greek myths as the Greeks knew it though, Hades kidnapped Persephone with the blessing and order of Zeus, who is Persephone’s father and decided that “ehhhh there’s no way Demeter would be okay with this, just kidnap her it’ll be fine :D” Persephone *did* agree to marry Hades and all that junk, and when Hermes came down (on Zeus’ orders because Demeter’s killing the planet with her sulk-induced winter and famine meant a lack of people to do sacrifices and the only way to remedy that was to give Demeter what she wants: Persephone herself), Hades allowed Persephone to go to her mom, and because Persephone was a bit homesick, Hades vowed to her that he’d be the best husband he can be for her, and that she as his wife would become a queen of queens and ruler of the Underworld alongside him Spretnak aside, I like to think that Persephone caught on very quickly that Hades kidnapping her was a thing her dad A-okay-ed and thus this dood was her husband now, and she warmed up to him and accepted him because he was very nice, loyal and a good husband And yes, Persephone does go up to be with Demeter for a fraction of the year (that fraction in question varies depending on who you ask), and she does go down to be with Hades for the rest of the year- Demeter thus causes winter when Persephone leaves to be with Hades

You let out an important part of Chronos' story. He was not just the King of the Titans, he was also the god of time. If you want a look at how powerful he was, trapping him in Tartarus was not enought to stop him from acting his power upon the world. All life will eventually wither and die, entire civilizations doomed to eventually fall and collapse. For all of Ares' wars, Poseidon's earthquakes and storms, and Apollo's plagues, nothing have killed more people than time itself.

Atlas didn’t have to carry the planets on his shoulders. He was tasked by Zeus to carry the heavens, the depiction of him carrying the planet Earth didn’t exist until after the middle ages
@Yassty
@Yassty Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's correct. The ancient Greek myth of Atlas primarily portrayed him as carrying the celestial spheres or the heavens on his shoulders, not the planet Earth specifically. The image of Atlas holding the Earth as a globe didn't become popular until much later, during the Renaissance period. It was influenced by the idea of a geocentric universe, where the Earth was considered the center of the universe and all celestial bodies revolved around it. This idea was popularized by the ancient Greek astronomer Ptolemy and was widely accepted until the heliocentric model was proposed by Copernicus and later confirmed by Galileo.

Titanomachy*, not Titanochamy. Also, Demeter's daughter Persephone was in the underworld for the spring and summer. The Greek climate of high temperatures summer droughts meant that in that period, nothing would grow. When Persephone came back up in the autumn, the Greeks would plow their fields and sow their seeds, so that the more mild climate of Mediterranean wintertime would see the crops grow.

I fully agree on the part of Athena and Ares being close on the list. However I do think Athena should be higher. While brute strength will often succeed. The most infamous battles in history follow the line of Athena's strategy. Shaka of the Zulu beat the British without armor but making use of a brilliant strategy in form of the bull horn. Ceaser made incredible battles of being outnumbered end with victories in his strategies. Napoleon was soo good at winning that the French got tired of it. Sure Ares was a great god, and one of my favorites, but Athena would beat him in every duel they ever had. Your explanation on him was also missing a lot of information, but one of the most important differences between the siblings of war, isn't just their polar strategies, but the effects of their strategies. Ares' followers always relayed bloodshed and heavy loss on both sides. Athena's followers took more time to plan, and often ended with more remaining troops and therefore happier people.

All the gods, even Zeus, were subject to the Fates. They're the most powerful in Greek mythology.
@treeezy1472
@treeezy1472 Жыл бұрын
No, they are not. The Fates themselves were basically descendants of Anake, the primordial of destiny(something like that). Outside of the children of chaos and the other main primordials, The Fates are the strongest. But this list was flawed once they so heavily underrated Tartarus. He was more than the god of the place, he was the very embodiment of the whole thing. Primordials are said to be the closest thing to the personification of their elements. Easily outclasses the rest

Weren't there giants that were meant to destroy them? @@giulianoaaronfrancoynsfran4858 Tf he only reason I'd say the dates are stronger than the gods and titans is because they were able to put restrictions on them, restrictions that most Gods/Titans avoided heavily. @@_grass It's different as the myth goes. But Chaos/Khaos is generally considered the first being that created the universe. Chaos is also the creator of the primordials as well... Their parent. It's complicated because some versions of the myths consider Khaos to just be some form of energy.

This made him lurch forward, trailing his entrails, which he trod upon, bursting them, tangling his legs in his guts and finally falling with an emptied stomach.”

The myths and gods changed throughout the ages, and there are things like specialties, so it's difficult to nitpick which gods are actually the strongest. There are also various ways you could rank them. You could rank them by how much mortals feared/revered them the most, or by tales of their feats and stories that show their differences, or by godly bloodlines.
