Hey dude. A lot of great engineering and time going into this. Its really cool. However …. please don’t use those printed plastic joiners to hold your ribs to the chassis plate. I would almost guarantee they won’t be strong enough. The threads are inserted from the same side as the piece they are secured to by the look of it, so they can pull out. You would be much better off getting some aluminium 90deg angle (it’s a stock extruded material). You could drill and tap the angle to bolt it together or drill right through and bolt through. Seriously, it would be a much stronger solution. At 200mph the pressure in the body will be huge. I wouldn’t be surprised if that alone ripped it apart. Good luck mate 👍 look forward to seeing it run.

I was shocked at that too. Also the flat bottomed box shape. Will take off. I'd use a jetplane fuselage with outrigger wheels.
@HawkerFury
@HawkerFury Жыл бұрын
@@ThomasPCGuruENGINES that’s a good point about the flat bottom. Potentially used correctly though it could produce a suction onto the road. But yes if air gets under it, its game over man. I just don’t want to see all this work fall apart around the chassis 😊.

@HawkerFury
@HawkerFury Жыл бұрын
@@dries-pederjanse6249 I fully disagree with that but we are all entitled to our opinions. I just don’t want to see all his heard work fall apart. A printed part with a thread hot inserted into it on such a joint really isn’t very good. I’m sure the fact he could draw it and print it nice and accurately was the most appealing part of the decision to do it that way, but for the structural integrity of the chassis I’m afraid it needs more work put into it than that.

So, you have a few options for wheels: something similar to the Bloodhound SSC, which are solid aluminium-zinc alloy disks, which can deal with 10 200 RPM. You could coat the rims with latex or something to give it something akin to tyres. You could also do foam based stuff (as some other people have suggested), which could deal with the heat really well due to the air pockets, but they might have too much give. Personally, if I was making this, I'd do aluminium disk for the main wheel, with layers of rubber and foam. But I don't know how that'd be made. But hey, experiment and have some fun! For all I know what I've just said is utterly useless and can't be done.

As a heat shield use a thin paper card on the plastic then put the metal shield on and that will give a barrier of insulator between hot metal heatshild and plastic. Or just wack some exhaust wrapping on the plastic bit. Hope this helps.

another amazing project! I really loved the shots on 10:31 and 10:32 of the heat diffraction! As you pointed out, aluminum tape should help with the engine heat as it'll just reflect the heat away! For the wheels, maybe worth considering making them out of aluminium? Since RC car tires love to separate from wheels at high RPMs (much like the Thrust2 car or the new bloodhound SSC)
