The adults are “professional chefs” so Gordon is pushing them so hard and gets frustrated when he sees these mistakes. And on this show, he’s trying to save people’s lives.

Auto Krane my mom does that...she buys a jar or can of something, even vegetables, she'd sometimes end up stuffing it into the very back of our fridge, or pantry, then forgets all about it, and buy more...I usually throw out the vegetables, but I sometimes can never find old jarred or canned foods, what with how much my mom piles into the pantry, so they end up sitting there for years, until I find it a year or two past its expiry...

Madeline Pressly I only buy the needed amounts that I need, and never keep raw meats longer than 5 days, so I always use every ingredient that I have so that none is wasted, of course I cook based on what's new, while improvising to use something before it goes completely bad. Though I'd be great to live on my own, then I can stock my fridge properly....

Ironically, the only time I got sick from anything was perfectly cooked, perfectly fresh eggs (mind you, it was an egg unit in a cooking course, I had like half a dozen eggs that day, so it was my fault.
