Kobe's legacy is literally defined as a tale of two careers... During his 20 years in the league, he played the first half of his 10 years wearing the Ocho (No. 8), and the second half of his 10 years as the Black Mamba (No. 24)... And when you compare side by side, his basketball stats while wearing No. 8 vs. No. 24 appear to be eerily identical... A freak of nature! He's one of those rare NBA Players that played their career throughout 2 different eras of the NBA (1996-2006 With 3 Chips) & (1996-2016 With 2 Chips)... Personally, I'd prefer watching Ocho Kobe vs. Black Mamba... Back then, his skill sets were more raw and not yet fully polished... But he was also elastic & wiry, and with his speed, could leap out of the gym and still guard practically any player on the floor, other than a true Center... He played with a more reckless abandon and free spirit with nothing to lose, and sent plenty of players into retirement as a result... Also rarely mentioned is that Kobe earned 12-Time NBA All-Defensive Team honors (9x 1st Team & 3x 2nd Team), tied with Jordan with the most 1st Team honors for a Guard, and the most Totals honors (12) for any Guard in NBA History... After Jordan, the best 2-Way Guard there was, and yes, has been mentioned by some of the best players in the NBA as the most skilled... Give me 21-yr, 22-yr, 23-yr old Kobe any day of the week...

Kobe made me a basketball fan. I was always hyped. And he delivered for an era. I grew up in SOCAL, and he really made the game feel like it was the Lakers to win and sometimes lose. He carried a lot on the shoulder. He couldn't always rely on certain players. Selfish or not! He was one of the greatest.

The afro Kobe was the best 2-way Guard in the league by far. He was an athletic freak in his 20's. You should watch Kobe's goat szn highlights from 2000, 2001, and 2002. Nobody could stop Kobe or Shaq in the early 2000's. #24 Kobe was an even better leader of men. During Kobe's first 8 years, the Lakers were mostly comprised of veteran talent, and really good role players that wanted to win at all costs. Shaq and Kobe fit right into that environment, especially when Phil Jackson arrived. After Shaq left, the Lakers took several steps backward, and the vast majority of the veteran talent left for retirement, or other franchises. Kobe ended up having to lead a team of younger nobodies for a while, but when they finally acquired enough talent on the roster, Kobe chose to become a lot more of a floor general on both sides of the ball. I would take any version of Kobe over pretty much any player who has ever lived, but the early 2000's Kobe was pure dominance in my opinion. That's what made those 3-peat Laker teams so scary to go up against, and they had Shaq to deal with as well.

9:50 this game was to take the #2 seed and keep portland outta the playoffs...kobe hits an absurd 3 to send the game into OT and then another incredible buzzer beater 3 to win in OT...worth checking out on its own.

Kobe was a shooter early in his career as well. He was super skilled from day 1 in the league. This highlight reel is just his dunks mostly. You have to watch Kobe Goat szn 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, or 2008 if you really want to see the type of player he truly was. Kobe was a shooter first (one of the greatest shooters to ever live), not a dunker, even though he could dunk, and score inside with the best of them.

To answer your question if he was the most skilled player ever you should check out "When a man becomes a Legend" by Jimmy Highroller. Probably the best Kobe video I've seen on KZfaq. I got the chance to witness Kobe's career before the 3peat till his last game & to me he was better than Lebron as for Jordan I can't say that because I didn't live through it in real time & I feel like highlights don't do their careers justice.

He was the most skilled basketball player to ever walk the planet out of 7 billion on the planet at one time he was the very best and he worked for that amazing achievement. I am so grateful I got to witness MJ and Kobe primes. Watching LeBron and Curry's primes are a joke compared to what I've already witnessed and these younger generations will not get it and it's ironic because that's exactly what the old timers used to say about Kobe and MJ when talking Dr J or Oscar Robertson Jerry West ect.

Jordan’s moves weren’t all his, all the greats take things from each other. Jordan took from wilt, David Thompson, dr j, jerry west and Elgin Baylor. Kobe also studied those same players and took from them as well as magic, Reggie Miller, nowitzski, Hakeem and added it to his arsenal.

I have MJ over Kobe but I think Kobe gets disrespected by being put down the list just because of his similarities to Jordan. If Jordan didn't exist, Kobe would be the best ever. It's just because two all time greats were active SO close together in the timeline, even overlapped a bit, and their styles were similar. And since MJ was "The GOAT" I feel like Kobe gets moved way too far down most people's list. If he's nearly the same as Jordan and the only thing Jordan really has on him is the 1 extra ring, then shouldn't put that Kobe at least Top 5 by default?

Kobe didn’t start the first two seasons of his career, definitely could have gotten rookie of the year if he was the focal point of his team. I always imagine what kind of numbers he could have gotten without Shaq his first 8 seasons of his career. Would have made a big difference in his career numbers. Or if Shaq would have started taking a back seat and let Kobe be the man and kept in shape and helped Kobe get his, they definitely could have gotten three more together. Then Kobe getting two more he would have ended up with 8. Your either destined to be the best or not. Lebron tried to put destiny in his own hands by bouncing around, he lost 6. It sure is harder when you stick with one team your entire career

Kobe is def top 2 GOAT of all time. Lebron is a distant thought. Lebron no matter how long he plays will never be in this category. I'm lucky enough to have seen both Mike and Kobe play. I lean towards Kobe being the GOAT but it feels blaphemous to say so all the same if you know what I mean....
