I'd say about 90% of the effective things that I do in the gi have been from your videos. I would be beyond excited if you started doing no gi and did videos to teach the guard work, etc. I have been paying a lot more attention to no gi and the transition has been difficult.

The trouble I would say, is that a lot of Jon’s material that helped me in the Gi from bottom, is not so applicable to No-Gi. Now that doesn’t mean you have to change completely, but collar sleeve, De La Riva, Deep De la Riva are much riskier to play in No-Gi, due to the threat of heel hooks. If I play De La Riva No-Gi, then I use it pretty much exclusively to switch to Ashi/X guard, however: you could use it to wrestle up with instead, but in No-Gi you can’t use upper body attacks from bottom as easily as in the Gi. That’s why you have to enter the legs to sweep or attack legs in No-Gi in my humble opinion. Passing however, is very similar to the Gi, submissions as well. In fact submissions like the Kimura are much easier to hit in No-Gi.

Ash is first class, excellent content - love to see more no gi, will you be launching some no gi courses on the Jon Thomas website? I have had so many instructionals and subscriptions over the years, the JT website is beats them by miles; I can watch, learn and deploy on the mats. JT is a gifted coach.

I remember him back in the Edinburgh Open 2012 or 2011, it was my first competition as a fresh 3 month white belt and he just rocked up casually and dominated the purple belt division. Was like watching a Jedi fight to my beginner ass.

I just realized that when I learned how to swim (like breaststroke) when in top mount to maintain the Mount when my opponent is trying to push upwards on my chest and “bench press” to knock me off... that’s a basic example of: “collapsing and misdirecting the force of a frame”!!

one of the more overrated grapplers. Doesnt compete unless its in the UK and since not alot of people are willing to fly to the UK it leaves him with weak ass competition. We saw what happens when he faces international competition when he lost first round at adcc easily. He also has an old school stall game and 99% of his wins are by 2 pts after stalling for 10 min or by a weak ass adv. Id rather learn from someone who actually gets subs.
