My most-used skincare of 2023. I mean to film this EVERY year and then it gets too chaotic near to Christmas and so I cannot tell you how pleased I am to have finally managed to deliver!
This is most-used, which by implication is also a sort of favourites vid, but you'll note that sunscreens are generally absent. This isn't because I don't use (I do, religiously) but I try so many different ones that I don't think (apart from the Murad) any one spf beat the other products into the list!

Ruth Crilly. You're smart, knowedgeable and you're never afraid to make fun of yourself. You're a breath of fresh air on KZfaq where people say they love a certain product, they couldn't live without it, it's the best ever but then a week or so later they've moved onto some other new favourite. It's tedious and makes me not believe in anything they are recommending. In this and in previous videos I've seen you show us really old makeup or skincare which you've been faithful to and that's what makes you a person worth listening to. I've been watching your videos for years, ever since the times of that really fancy wallpaper as a background, like peacock feathers or something. Thank you for keeping it real for us.

I love your comments on cleansers! If my cleanser doesn’t smell lovely, it’s a drudge to take my makeup off and is performed perfunctorily which usually means get it done quickly!

Ooooh I love the fragrance! Can’t beat the very unusual scent of May Lindstrom ( obscenely expensive 😣) balm !! Love decleor too, and Lancôme milky cleanser is just full of memories of being in my 20’s !!!

Such a great video! I have to thank you for the Aveeno serum recommendation too, I've gone through bottles of the stuff this year! I do love a fragrance in haircare but this year i removed any skincare product with parfum/fragrance and its made a huge difference. I used to get breakouts, thinking that they were hormonal or I'd eaten something that didn't agree with me. I clearly have quite sensitive skin but never knew!

I absolutely LOVE Medik8. I’m on 6 but use 10 once a week. When I’m done with the 6 I’ll start using the 10 exclusively. I also use the ultra c-tetra serum and the C daily moisturizer. I’m not loyal to any brand but found these products as my holy grails. The C serum feels oily but it’s one of the few I can tolerate and feel it’s works very well. Thank you for sharing your most used. It’s very helpful to see other items out in the market. Your skin looks absolutely amazing so whatever you’re doing is working well. ♥️💕♥️

I love fragrance in skincare and I’ve never forgiven Elizabeth Arden for taking their Moisturiser with sunscreenoff the market 😡 I loved the perfume in that, it reminded me of a spa, not that I’ve ever been to one but that’s what I imagine one would smell like. Happy New Year Ruth 🥰

Hallelujah! Someone else who likes the odd fragranced product - I find a really lovely gentle fragrance in a product relaxing and luxurious! If it’s a really expensive product that’s un-fragranced I feel cheated! Great video Ruth - happy new year!

You are so right, everything skincare is like a medicine cabinet more than a beautiful experience anymore. Of course with both acne and then aging, the solutions are chemical. I thought when I hit my 50s I would be done with oil and acne, and I could use nice creams, but that was a nope. So, I buy one beautiful cream product and the rest is literally treatment-oriented. Trinny London finally brought back that eyeshadow duo you recommended a few years ago, the Fortune or Fortuna, forget what it is called, the two brown-y shades, one shimmery, love it. 🎄💄🍷

I adore Aveeno Calm and Restore - the whole line! I also love Aveeno's body oil, because of its fragrance so yes, fragrance has it's place in skincare

Wonderful informative video Ruth, thank you! Very interested to try some of these items. On the topic of SPF 50 sunscreens for face, etc., I recently started using the Korean Beauty of Joseon SPF 50 Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics Plus++++ and it’s amazing! I heard many Dermatologists raving about it on KZfaq. It feels unlike any sunscreen, doesn’t sting around the eyes, goes on like a beautiful moisturizer, not sticky, etc. You’d never know it was sunscreen. I’m hooked! You might enjoy it. I hadn't received a YT notification for one of your videos for a while, so I'm glad you mentioned the email thingy. You look particularly beautiful today: I love the tousled-tamed hair and the gorgeous eye makeup 😍 As for your unpopular opinion: l do agree and love scents in my skincare, otherwise I have no pleasure in applying it and it becomes a choré, like medication. If I want something when my skin feels unusually sensitive, I just go to the pharmacy and buy an Avene or La Roche Posay our Bioderma cream. I used to love Darphin and especially Decleor, Biotherm too used to have aromatherapy skincare which I loved!! I've found since going through my 30s that my skin has gotten drier and the products I used in my 20s are all too stripping for me. Are you able to do content on makeup and skincare changes and how to adjust your makeup and beauty choices as you get older? Would also be interested in content about body and facial hair removal and how to tackle that getting older Xxx

Yes, it's VERY potent so I'd start with the super retinol if you're new to it! Facial hair, oh God. Don't get me started I'm literally just at the table talking to my mum about it! Ha. Will do a video x

I know what you mean about skincare which a great fragrance, there’s really nothing better. Annoyingly my skin is sensitive to a bunch of fragranced stuff but not others, so trying new products with fragrance/essential oils/whatever is always tricky. I once had the perfect skincare routine which started with the Emma Hardie balm and finished with a discontinued 😭Sunday Riley oil. This finally got me to pick up some bits from Sali’s range and that Aveeno serum. Still selling the products 😂😂

I enjoy fragrance in that I wear it everyday, but I am really glad it’s finally being left out of skincare. The vast majority of fragrances damage and age our skin. Also with rosacea I’m so thankful for more skincare without fragrance!

I'm much more discerning about skincare now I am in my 50s. I expect the few items to use to work,not cause irritation,and not have a thick cloying scent(the creams I've ditched because of the heavy perfume! Nivea,looking at you..) Strangely now I am officially in the menopause I have returned to products I enjoyed in my 20s and 30s. You can't beat a plain, really effective moisturiser. I hate heavy fragrance but love Lancome,who have got the fragrances right.

Love this! You do make me chuckle! Some interesting products - not hyped ones - that I want to try now! Can I ask something that’s been puzzling me - well two things actually. Firstly you seem to use tret and retinoid intermittently- how do you decide which one when? And second the skin&me thing. I’ve gone most of the way through subscribing but they don’t say what you’re going to get in your prescription- not that I can see anyway. Do you only know when it turns up? Thanks ❤

Yeah you only know when it arrives and you look on the tube! But - BUT - it seems to be very similar for most people I know, unless you're pregnant or TTC or have certain sensitivities/skin conditions... I don't swap between them, I just stopped the Skin + Me because I had been using it for an age and wanted to see how others compared. x

i love aveno serum, so nice.. have not tried the gel cream moisturizer...would like to try it but dont think its enough moisture for my sensitive dry face..

I swapped my dermatica tret for the medik8, hated the texture of the dermatica and the medik8 is lovely. Don’t like putting things on my face that aren’t pleasurable to use!
