People get years in jail for non-violent drug offenses. It’s incredibly sad
@ronlawray15633 жыл бұрын
@Andy D.....Rikers is a jail and most jails hold those awaiting trial and/or sentencing, like most cities. No matter the crime, you will end up there until your case is settled, one way or the other.....SO.....to say sending someone there for a non violent crime means nothing to law enforcement officials since they have no choice... If l shoot someone and are arrested, and you get caught burglarizing a home the same day, we will both end up at Rikers... You the burglar, feel you shouldn't be housed with a shooter, fine....don't do the CRIME. Jeffrey Dahmer was in jail with druggies, burglars, DWI'S, car thieves and others...same goes for Ted Bundy and Charles Manson. Inmates don't sweat what crime you're in for...they only sweat their crime. You know the saying, "don't do the crime, if you can't do the time."

Honestly I think it's great what he's trying to do with solitary confinement. I also understand the issues people have with it. It's a very fine line both ways. But it does make sense to try to give people hope and rehabilitation. I know what isolation does to my mental health so I can't imagine if I was someone that struggled with aggression and anger by using violence and having someone lock me up in solitary confinement with those type of thoughts and not having any kind of Hope or help. You're literally creating a more dangerous monster than they were prior. We all make our choices but when you treat someone like an animal that's what you're going to get. I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of negative feedback on what I'm saying but I'm just trying to see this from my own experiences. I've had run into with the law for different reasons. I struggled with drugs and alcohol and got arrested a few times and I witnessed firsthand what solitary confinement did to people I knew. It changes a person and darkens their minds. The devil can have his way with you even more when you're alone in a dark place

Some of the correctional officers shouldn’t be wearing those uniforms, when I was 19 years old I was arrested for a suspended license on a cracked windshield which had it replaced. But the court clerk never removed it from the system. I was arrested during holiday weekend. I was told by the corrections officer to pick up my mattress and blankets to place on the bunk outside the cells. The officer said that I was too slow so he going to teach me a lesson by locking me up in a solitary cell for the whole four days. What made me hates the court even more was, during an arraignment I showed the judge the receipt and she asked me why am I I’m her court wasting her time. I was still in handcuffs and in Orange jail suit. I was so upset I told the female judge perhaps I enjoy watching her humiliating me. I said I wrongly jailed thrown in a solitary confinement for four days and she’s asked me what am I doing in her court room. So I told her this is how you get people in the systems a vicious cycle that drives people to go out and do bad things because of the corrupt government. I’m 50 years old now and I’m still upset and bitter about the experienced I went through. I enlisted in the US Army served 12 years with honorable discharges. Owning several businesses because I promised myself to never let another human being ruin my life again because I didn’t know the laws or the money to hire an attorney.

This is so sad. I did 4 years in prison. In Kansas. They refer to it as candy land because although any time behind those walls is hell, it's easy when compared to doing time anywhere else. I couldn't imagine doing time in a place like rikers Island. And I know there's people in there that absolutely deserve to be there. But then there's the ones who don't deserve it. Prison isn't for everyone. It really isn't. Even if you are considered a criminal or have committed crimes, prison doesn't help everyone. Some of those people need a different kind of help. Prison is only going to cause them more problems that could be avoided.
