@Unknown-pi8ph that's different from a separate entity. While we do have 2 parts in our brain and they control almost opposing factors internally we dont manually differentiate them. When you're thinking pragmatically you're still able to be overcome by emotion, staying calm and objective requires discipline, if our brain parts were truly independent there would be no need for containment. While there is a lot of truth to the idea of different personas or projections of our self, those different aspects of our identity arent mutually exclusive, by this I mean that while we may act a certain away around certain people this doesn't mean we become separate from the emotions inside of us. The monster inside Johan more than a different personality is a personification of his childhood connection being cutoff from his memory, note that after reading the nameless monster Johan stops using the taunting "monster is growing inside me" paragraph, it is because he now understands the root of his disconnect and from there changes his plans, going from extermination to suicide. This is just my interpretation though and if you feel I misjudged Johans actions feel free to point it out. I just feel his monstrosity was an unidentified fear he couldn't tie to his past until he was presented to it by the book.

That's the entire point of the anime. Showcasing how you completely break a human psychologically until there are no emotions or connections left and how they reach a point of true nihilism. And Johan IS that experiment. Therefore, Johan = broken.

but the same story brings minor excuses that in themselves do not take away anything from what it really is, the story wants to delve deeper into the question "can the concept of evil theoretically exist?" and although the story tries to make you notice that johan It is not pure evil, the excuses that are taken into account are automatically removed by Johan himself.

The real villain of the story is Franz Bonaparta. Whatever the hell he did to those children of the orphanage turned them all into killers. He broke them and rebuilt them to his liking.

Until he starts to change his view after the suicide of the kid who Johan thought was Karl. Then he starts to understand that there is somebody named Johan. He just don’t understand how could he be so clean, imaginary. The failed perfect suicide.

Is Lunge really pure good? For a while he was so intent on catching Dr. Tenma and refused to consider that he might be wrong for once in his life - he was like L in that he didn’t care about justice so much as he cared about winning the game - to the point that it cost him his relationship with his wife and daughter. No he didn’t suffer any trauma to make him broken, he simply broke himself by being such a workaholic.

he was neither bad nor good. he's a sociopath who chose his job as his target. we do not know whether he chose it because of the good that results from it. it's also clear that he doesn't care about morality, so he didn't choose his job because of it. if anyone knows Dr. House is a good character to compare. House doesn't heal people because he thinks it's good, but because he likes solving puzzles.

You let his backstory distract you from the fact that Johan manipulated kids to kill each other because he wanted to find out how they tear each other to pieces. Johan doesnt have emotions, he isnt broken, you cannot break humanity that was never there to begin with. He is a true psychopath.. he LACKS the fundamental capacity for human emotion. Likely not helped by the fact that he was fucking shot in the head and lived. He killed the foster parents in germany and told his own sister to shoot him, fully aware that if he stuck around, his sister would never know peace.. She failed him in that, and thousands paid the price for it.. for even while his memories were shattered, repressed and in the dark, his shadow still had sway over him subconsciously.. the old him.

At the start she was just dumb/influenced by her horroble father than she got evil because the whole tenma thing broke her and after that she became good

She manipulated and used Tenma the same way she manipulated and used dozens of other men before that (if her boasting about it is to be believed) Eva, like Johan, is an evil person who simply ended up living the rest of their lives in peace after the whole ordeal, with a slight hope of redemption. Lunge is in a similar position. He didn't reconcile with his daughter, but they are in touch via email.

@@snakey934Snakeybakey but Lunge did not manipulate his daughter unlike Eva who manipulates her husband. Lunge manipulated no one, he just preferred to choose his job rather than spend time with a wife who literally cheated on him + with a daughter who agrees with her mother's actions (Lunge's wife says that 'she had another husband in the anime)

Wdym his past didn’t affect him ofc it did, perhaps it didn’t show it in a direct way but his past definitely caused him to be the way he is, and just cause it means he is broken doesn’t justify his actions and I’m pretty sure the creator was not trying to excuse that, personally I think he is evil and broken, he is a mixture of nature and nurture.

@@ik.-.he's straight pyschopath he never feels anything he killed all his foster parents without any reason made kids do dangerous stunts on rooftap harming themself , gaslighting a child that his mother abandoned him to make him suicide , gaslighting a police officer to suicide etc. If he was broken there would have been atleast a reason for his deeds but no he just enjoyed people suffering hence he is pure evil

yeah we cannot justify whatever he did his methods were pretty twisted But he was actually broken right from the point when he realized his mom did love him and had to choose between the twins When Anna told him abt red rose mansion he took the monster from Anna and made those memories his Because of 511 kinderhiemer his memories got twisted and all he could remember was the massacre that occurred in the red rose mansion soon ig thats why he pretty much turned out to be like that In the book another mansion its mentioned that he mostly did stuff like that because of his unconditional love for Anna

@@johan_monster His love for his sister is not something true, and it is more of a superficial thing, in reality, he is more obsessed, and he does not see her as an individual, he sees her as another part of his identity, as another nameless monster, And because he considers himself without identity, he wants his sister to be like him, he wants her to abandon her identity and be an empty shell like him, he never showed ''real'' love to his own sister. And it has nothing to do with what happened with the experiments or the shooting, he literally always was a monster, even Hartmann himself says that he would never have managed to create a master piece like Johan,showing johan was always evil,and he didn't go through a broken or something similar.

@@johan_monster Even so, what he has done does not show that he is broken, since in his point of view, there is no reason for his actions, it is not because of Anna, it is because he wants to be evil, he wants to erase his past, because he refuses that his past was something that shaped him like this.
