Lemmy losing Eddie, Phil and getting Robo out put him in a dilemma. Think about it, us punters at the time really did think Lemmy could’ve jacked it in that would’ve been the end of Motörhead. Through word, ads, phone calls, Lemmy had a bunch of guys, he hoped, could gel and create music.( Don’t laugh). For that moment in time, Lemmy, Pete, Phil and Wurzel were brilliant. An e.p, radio promo shows and an album. Live, this band was an unstoppable machine. However, as time goes by, and what we know now, but at the time us punters were unaware, this version of Motörhead started to break down. The memories are still there, Mayhem Day ‘84, E C T, Wooorgh Weekender, Gt Yarmouth, Donington, various Hammy Odeon shows. Eventually, even Wurzel, started to turn a bit funny, but us punters were never aware that anything was wrong at the Motörhead camp at the time. Then, out of the blue, Pete Gill is not in Motörhead anymore. News to us. More news. Phil Taylor’s back. People got excited now. This version, I look back at that line and would say that they did some memorable shows as well. This line was bloody fast live. Albums, tours, then Phil Taylor is gone. Again, news to us. Mickey Dee was a name we knew from Merciful Fate and was noted to join Motörhead. Great. What’s Mickey doing now. Oh, he’s with Don Dokken. Fuck. He’s playing with a big name hair metal band. Got to hand it to Mickey, when people saw Motörhead live with Mickey on drums, they were thankful that Lemmy got a good, solid drummer. So, Mickey arrives. Motörhead do an album, tour and then we got the news that Wurzel was no longer in Motörhead. That news was a kick in the balls for a lot people. Shocking in fact. Why? We hoped Lemmy would not jack it in. He didn’t. Carried on till 2015. Memories.

You are a real fan just as me. Nobody else seems to think about this. Personally I love this lineup and it’s very underrated, orgasmatron is one of my favorite albums and this lineup was the dirtiest motörhead ever. Every member added something to the band, Mikkey is hard, Philty was fast and Pete was dirty, while Eddie was genius, Würzel was badass, Robbo was strange and Phil is practical. Ain’t talking about Lucas Fox and Larry Wallis as I don’t really like that early lineup.

You stated everything perfect! This lineup was so powerful….. and, the solos! I’m still in awe of the soloing ability. Like “organized chaos” in a brilliant way. I love Phil but Wurzel in particular had such a unique style

Id say after robbo left/got the boot, Motorhead went down hill.

@cooksontrains yeah 'let go' as far as 'fuck off, your fired'. Gill started taking the piss by all accounts (keeping the band waiting around on busy schedules etc) so he had to go. Gotta say his drumming style suited this line up and Orgasmatron is a fantastic album.

Orgasmatron was the best tune on that album. The rest is mediocre.

@cooksontrains Yes, I mean I always wondered why Pete gave Lem reasons to let him go...

he's saying he likes these guitarists, but would like 'em with Mickey Dee. I think having Wurzel in the band made Phil a better guitarist - you know, a little competition... and really, I think Motörhead's always had the drummer they needed at the time. I've always wondered wtf Pete quit for.

Mate I agree! From '95 onwards I really am not big into Phil's playing or tone for that matter! Together the "sizzle twins" were a force. Tones were shit hot right up until Sacrifice. Campbell reeked of EMG's from that point on although he may have started using them sooner I dunno. But in this era, those two were destroying everything in their path! Fantastic! Pete Gill was amazing, reading Lemmy's book I think he was a bit unfair to him. Having heard Pete Gills side of things after it seemed Lemmy was calling him gay for some reason, all a bit weird really. But what a force on the kit that man was!

Phils good on this tune but feel wurzel is a better guitarist , dont like the phil, mikkey dee, lemmy line up its the worst there was, a completely different sound.
