When it comes to parents having favourites: personality plays a huge role as well. I am loud and sociable, so mom and I talk more, about her life, her history and her plight. You’d think I’m her fave My sister is more reserved and grounded- but her and mom agree on most things (they NEVER agree with me 🤣). They think alike- you’d assume she just agrees with her coz she’s older and that she’s a favourite. I think the key for parents is to enforce healthy and strong sibling bonds. Parents love us equally but differently.

I enjoyed the interview and Mrs Mondlane is the sweetest she was my college teacher in college ....I fondly remember her making us to pray everytime we had to start with our lesson....one day I told her I have headache she kindly gave me her Mercedes car keys 😋 to go get some tablets and that's Mam Mondlane for you never had favourite in class and treated us equally....we love you 🥰🌸❣️

thanks for sharing this, I would really like to speak on this in depth. If my tone comes off as unpleasant at times, please forgive me. Firstly. Favoritism among siblings does exist. I think before dealing with the issue itself we need to first admit to the fact that it does exist. I think this is extremely crucial because just by disregarding it makes one feel unheard on top of already feeling rejected, not supported and unloved. I myself have struggled with this for 14 years. I'm 28 this year and just this week alone i have had to deal with episodes that are pure favoritism. Without going into detail, its stuff as obvious as my sister being wrong is situations that affect me, presenting the issue to my mother, my mother completely ignoring it and not reprimanding her behavior. i mean completely ignoring it. in one episode, my sister being wrong where it affects my mother directly and nothing is being said.. When each episode took place I said nothing at the present time - why ? I'm tired of pointing everything wrong that my sister does. My mother knows what is wrong and what is right, Furthermore - I am tired of not being heard. I am tired now. I moved from home a few years ago to get away from this but later realized how this was delaying the plans I had for myself. I didn't want to spend my money paying rent , that was never a part of my plans. I moved back home and got myself a car. I am tired of my mother protecting my sister at all cost even if it means at my cost emotionally, After many years of living with different family members , I have chosen to choose my battles and accept things I cannot change so I do not confront every issue anymore because all it does is show me the reality of my situation. I also learnt to look at the brighter side, I am strong and independent. I am still human, the child in me will long for a mother - always. It breaks me to see her treat me like this. I choose not to address some things but because I am human, I speak up especially when my mom protects or favors at my expense - EMOTIONALLY. I'm at a position where I have to record our conversations when I decide to address issues because of how much she will twist and change things to make it suitable for my sister to look right even when she is completely wrong. I also noticed how my mother uses the same excuse ( I am disrespectful - I shared the latest recording with my cousin and she pointed out how I initially started speaking to her properly but because of the blatant lies, twisting and denying to admit that my sister is wrong like anyone - I get upset, my tone gets louder harsher and because she refuses to hear me I protect myself and return the hurt but I still I do not justify the disrespect, I am wrong and to avoid that I don't address things anymore , I also know how it will turn out anyway. Everyone who knows us (family, friends and neighbors know me as the bad child because of how my mom speaks of me) To anyone who may be younger and has found themselves here. Please get help. Speak to someone and please please - If you have tried to fix and build a healthy relationship and it doesn't work, Please take care of yourself because it will be hardly to heal wounds you had to sit on as a child when you are much older. As an adult, I have tired to understand why my mother treats me like this. and she has said very hurtful things (She wasn't ready to have me when I was conceived). When given the opportunity one day, I know I will completely cut ties with both my mother and my sister because I learnt that the issue is beyond me. My mother and my sister have reasons that are way deeper that I have in the most unpleasant ways discovered. Stuff that they both need to heal from so sometimes it is not on you to fix the relationship because the toxicity stems from far within. protect yourself at all cost. I myself need help and by the grace of God I will completely heal from this one day. Not disregarding that you can fix it. they must be willing to hear you! that is where it all starts. And if a parent is willing to lsten and hear you, use it! please don't give up, no one is perfect, if someone is willing to hear you, speak. its the willingness. If you are young, lost and alone. Im here . Love and light (Psalm 27:10 - Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will hold me close) 💖

I'm so sorry that you are going through all that, but what I can tell is you are strong, stronger that you can imagine. Your mom says she was not ready when she conceived you, that's it right there, she needs to heal and forgive the situation and herself as well, you are here now and you are here to stay. You know the saying "cut people needs to heal their wounds before they bleed on to somebody they didn't even cut them in the first place" , I think that is the situation with your mom so your sister is caught up in all this. So all you need to know is that you are special, you are loved by the most high God, you are not a mistake and God has a purpose for your life, just focus and let God heal you(2Peter 2:24). You did your part by addressing the issue now let God. And for you to heal forgive your mom even if she didn't ask for it and probably won't ask for it, forgive her and your sister, and remember you are doing it for you not anyone else. Be well

I am so sorry you are going through this. I know how much it hurts. My mom has even gone as far as telling me she hates me at family meetings. Having and being close to Christ is the only thing that gives me comfort. Plus I have a step dad who adores me. I have worked on healing my inner child for years. It took years of therapy. Even decided I don't want Children of my own. Because hard as it is to digest. I. Still consider myself a "little girl" at 39, hence I steer away from dating and focus on inner healing. Dr Ramaani and Mike Fox have helped me a lot here on KZfaq. Try watching their videos. Very insightful. In the meantime 💖 Christ loves you very much and God created you for a reason. Always remember that.

I truly relate with what you are dealing with and it affects my emotional well being, the hurtful part is that when I confront my mother she completely defends my sister and it really doesn't create a good relationship between us to the point where I just wish to cut her out of my life but in the end you always have to forgive and let God deal with your pain

Welcome Mpoomy's mom you are now a mom to all of us here😜. I really appreciate this conversion here, I could now relate to my mom in law, I didn't understand her on some many levels so now I take it to myself to never mind some of the stuff she normally say to me and my husband (her son). We are so blessed and be blessed mrs Mom and your mom 😍😍😍

Thank you so much, for the conversation. I have grown with the void that my mother loves my other siblings than me but I now I understand, it's because of our characters. Iam a reserved person who doesn't talk alot, so my younger sister shares everything with her. This has healed me, I see that my mom loves us differently according to our characters. And iam a mom now, I always feel guilt hate I love my son more than my daughter but I know if I had to choose I will choose them because I both love them it's just that I love them differently ❤thank Mpoomy and mom

As a first born child with huge gaps between myself and my siblings, I've never felt like there was any favoritism because my mom made sure she equipped me with more knowledge, education and teaching me how to be responsible till to my first employment. The catch came after she passed then I had to take over the load which was easily acceptable, however I will never recommend having kids with a huge age difference in between because it's not fair on your first born.

I agree with your Mom, envy in a positive way or admiring the achievement easily acquired, every Mother intentions are generally to see their children win or grow in their endeavors. If it appears as jealousy than that is rather toxic and healing is required.

Favouritism almost broke our family apart, I don't stay at home due to employment, so whenever I'm home my older sister would sulk and make comments such as " oh the Golden child is home, so some of us will be nonexistent until they leave" that really left a bitter taste in me as at some point I would miss my family but the thought of going home would make me scared of the comments. I'm older now having my own kids I try as much to always a firm them that I love them both equally

Can I comfort you by saying having siblings doesn’t mean you’ll get along with them. Being an only child also means you were a priority (I hope in your case) and never had to share resources. There is no perfect life, we must all appreciate what we do have.

@Ntobeko Maseko Hi Dear I understand exactly how you feel. You and l are in the same boat regarding being the only child in our homes. Don't beat yourself up, l know at times you feel lonely and wish to find some guidance from a brother or sister or have someone to talk to (who is more like your peer). Try to build rapport relationships with your brother-cousins or sister-cousins as well with some of your friends ,they initially become your siblings not only by blood but by the quality of the relationship you build with them. Keep well.🌻❤🌻
