Judges like this are why so many people don't trust the justice system. Letting their own personal views be what conducts their rulings. Letting guilty people walk and innocent people rot behind bars. Makes me sick. I'm happy that they focused on that in this episode.

@@bananacathammock He let a woman off knowing that she was unstable and that the child wasn't safe, but she was rich and well-known so he thought that they were and I quote "good people", and he sent another mom to prison for ten years for her baby girl's death which turned out to be a complete accident but she was a wh*re (his words, not mine) so that made her a bad mother apparently.

What makes me mad is that the Aunt and sister were honest and stood up for that little girl without hesitating and the investigators went above and beyond to bring justice to them. Then judge just sat there, unapologetically defending a LITERAL MURDERER and letting her walk free. So, if she gets mad at her other daughter for confessing what she saw and decides to kill her too...we'll just blame the cat or something... we may as well since irrelevant observations are much more convincing than direct proof... So glad the judge got arrested, but the mom needs a life sentence more than anyone else in this situation.

She DID kill her other daughter after and the judge was arrested bc he suggested it her. So there was justice in the end but it’s sad two little girls died

he was briefly arrested and let loose by another judge. he got moved to family court (like thats any better) when his biases became public knowledge and the courts were forced to act.

I feel bad for the dad. He believed his wife's innocence and trusted her with his kids, including Alexis. To come home to see Alexis dead and his wife in cuffs again must've taken the ground right from under him. Poor Alexis didn't deserve to die. She shouldn't have died or have been in danger to begin with. The woman had to have been sick in the head to claim to love her child and yet so easily put her daughter in serious danger (to kill her, even).

@@curtisberard7831I think that's what some people call "jesuitical thinking", or maybe " dancing on the head of a pin". A Judge won't make that distinction I fear. At least, that was my experience, when a Judge found me guilty of contempt. I had 3 days in prison to think about my impertinence!

This episode was fantastic. The most horrifying part was not that the judge acquitted her not because he believed her innocence, but that she was such a good stereotype that he simply EXCUSED her. Then he advises her to do away with the sick girl. That “””mother””” is a disgrace

Even though he never met the daughter at all, he is just as guilty as the mother herself for causing her death. There were two other episodes I know of in SVU where facilitating a murder was used: The episode involving the child beauty pageants and the episode Home.

If I remember correctly, he spoke to her later and told her to get help and not do it again. She ends up killing and the judge is at fault. They found out that he made a mistakes with the antifreeze mother. They get that mom out and get judge off the stand

tbh he's probably getting payouts from the prison system. he lets her off on the child abuse charges then tells her to murder her child so she'll be locked up for even longer, which means more profit for the prison and a bigger cut for him. there was a real life case of a judge that was doling out extreme sentences and was found to be profiting from it.

Casey wanted to have him arrested and sent to prison for murder facilitation but the presiding judge threw the case out and he reprimanded her for that.

Why didn't he just say "yes, that was after her daughter described her forcing her other daughter to drink soapy water until she started vomiting and fell unconscious"? You're allowed to believe the suspect is guilty after you hear the evidence of their guilt.

The defense would have objected, and the judge likely would have agreed, bc witnesses are meant to answer questions as specifically as possible, not shoe-horn in their opinions or details that a lawyer didn’t ask for. Which would have been worse for the prosecution, since it could lead to the judge striking that evidence from the case all together. I know its part of Stabler’s character, but he was in the wrong in this instance. Also, I don’t think the child he was interviewing had an adult present during the time of the interview- huge no-no when you’re interviewing children as witnesses, unless the parent/guardian gives consent to the officer. Maybe that was shown in the episode but not this clip.

Being unable to have children myself, I feel absolutely sick when parents abuse their children. So many people, for whatever reason, can't have kids. It's not fair that they can't, when complete monsters can.

Not another child. It was the same adopted child she poisoned and gave her brain damage. This was because the judge had an ex parte chat with her during her first trial where he implied the child was better off dead.

@dietotaku I looked it up. There is a SCOTUS decision that makes it illegal to arrest someone in their own home without an arrest warrant. If they have an arrest warrant, then they can arrest them in their home.

My adoptive mother was Lways doing stuff like this,she made herself out to be my rescuer from foster homes, and the children's home,she hit me shut doors on my fingers,bit me,a couple of times she was supposed to put a suppository inside me,she at first put it in my uteter(meatus), vs the vagina.I remember the pain.I was underdeveloped,but because we lived on a farm it was considered i was getting nutrition i needed.As a teenager,they found out I had very low iron in my blood.She had the same happen when she was a child.Adoptive parents need to be monitored as well.

There are too many horror stories of adopted kids, being disowned, physically, mentally sexually abused, returned to the orphanages or biological families which they came- many of which are not even fit to care for them, or killed by their adoptive families! Adoption a loving option? Not always!

There is, but what looks good on paper doesn't equal love and care in practice. The screenings are for criminal background, housing conditions, and income.

This is base on a real case ,I remember some details about it. A mother was accused of giving her baby antifreeze . The baby had a rare condition , long story short after they looked into the moms case she was set free. I don't remember if the baby lived or died , I hope the baby lived .

Ryan Stallings, it happened in my hometown in the late 80’s/early 90’s. Baby Ryan did die, and it was his brother that ultimately proved their mom’s innocence because he had the same condition that killed Ryan, so they were able to prove it was a genetic condition, not their mom poisoning them. The younger brother DJ also eventually passed away some years ago, but he was an adult and I’m not sure if it was the condition that killed him or something else.

This isn’t real remember, I real life there are protocols for stuff like this Edit - for the idiots who don’t understand what protocol means let me give you an example When someone is arrested they have their rights read out to them - this is protocol and it’s so that the person being arrested can’t get out of something by clamming they wasn’t told their rights. When someone is questioned for a whiteness statement the statement is always recorded especially if they cannot appear as a whiteness on the stand E.g the little girl saying what she saw wouldn’t be able to have even been used as evidence unless the statement was recorded with whiteness since she is a child. There are many protocols that need to be followed for her statement to be as evidence. The whole point of protocols is that they are followed, if they aren’t followed then people can weasel out of crimes which is exactly the reason they are followed 99% of the time. Which then brings it back to my original point in saying that this situation wouldn’t have happened if it was real life

I had to watch all of this again and i feel like the judge should’ve gotten a harsher sentence than just being moved down to civil court, but i guess ruining his reputation is a none to slim victory and glad the mom went to jail

Uhm, ok, so why didnt the brilliant cop say: "No, you're incorrect counsel. I made my statement to the mother AFTER my questioning her daughter, and her Daughter making the aforementioned statements. Therefore, my opinion of the Mother was the result of the testimony of the daughter, and in no way enforced my questioning, as it had already taken place."

You cannot go into a home at night without the person living in it granting you permission. Or a competent judge, because no rule is absolute. This is not about class or anything, just a constitutional dispositive in any civilized western country.

I don’t get why the judge thought it’d be a good idea to take the moms side. Everyone says it was his own bias that got in the way, but I want to know what bias was that?! What made him think he should let this girl die by the hands of her own mother?

Class bias - the woman who poisoned her adopted daughter was a well-educated woman, married, had a good life which to him was a good mother while the woman he sentenced for murder wasn't well off, not educated, had two kids with two different men even when a professional was to identify that the baby died of a genetic condition he refused to hear it n called it 'junk science'

What he thought a "mother" should look like. Defense attorney of another one of his cases stated this. As for wbat else, I think he meant get help bexause he thought she felt guilt for not stopping the incident

Now I’m starting to BELEIVE that 1 judge that made a video saying he gave someoen life without parole because he didn’t eat that day and was just haven a bad day… and did nothing to help the man or decrease his time… just sick I also was in court and saw a judge give someoen time because they misunderstood what the person said. Basically said since they don’t no how to talk them maybe they need time 😢 I truly feel like judges got a special place in hell… they think there god they have to ability to lock someone up foreveeeeeeeerrrr
