@@gk7754 I grew up in the methodist church, and it was fine for me when I was in my youth. Now as a man who wants to do his best for God, I needed devotion. I needed consistency, and I needed wisdom and attention. The Orthodox church provides that for me and each day I go to worship our LORD, he realigns me back the path to him.

First of all, I would say that going from Protestantism to Orthodoxy is a definitely a step in the right direction, but I would strongly advise you to watch the Pints of Aquinas interview of Michael Lofton. He converted from Protestantism to Catholicism, then switched to Orthodox, and finally returned to Catholicism. The most intriguing parts of that interview are actually how the dry ecclesiastical teachings of the early Church lit his way. These women, of course, are from the Byzantine Church which is in full communion with Rome. Whether or not you find his experience convincing, it's definitely worth looking into for the dry information alone. Godspeed!

I loved this interview. There aren't many interviews of Eastern Catholics monastics out there, and what makes this one so great is also the personalities of these nuns. They seem like such fun people, and so passionate about their faith.

YES. I grew up with this influence of modern feminism and felt like I was constantly being told that the only way to have dignity and respect as a woman was to turn myself into a man and demand to do whatever men do. But…what about embracing being a woman and doing the things that women are uniquely suited for? I understand that feminism was a response to the devalued role of women, but the solution was not to double down on that devaluation.
@sammig.8286
@sammig.8286 Жыл бұрын
It maybe ties into what they said later about how we try to be someone other than ourselves, because we don't believe we can be loved and valued the way we are. I can't speak for all women, just myself, but I had an extremely negative view of girliness and femininity. I'm still repulsed by those words as an adult. And there are of course a lot of stereotypes about girls and women that simply don't match with reality. Girls and women have all sorts of different personalities that don't always fit the cultural ideas. That said, if there truly is a sense in which females are different than males, then that's a distinction that will manifest itself by people simply being themselves. A woman doesn't need to try to act feminine. She simply needs to be herself.

Matt, I just wanted to say thank you for all the work you do. I have learned so much through you on Pints With Aquinas. I have grown up in various Protestant branches, and I looked on Catholicism with suspension and contempt. But through your channel I have not only learned the beauty of the catholic faith but your sincere love and faith in Christ has continually been a witness to me for the Catholic Church. Your interview with these two mothers has been a blessing to me. Growing up I viewed nuns, to my shame, as ignorant, legalistic, and austere. The vocation seemed to me a waste. I had never heard, met, or read anything by a nun until I watched an interview you did with, at the time, Sister Natalia. To see her sincere love of Christ, to see the beauty of her life and vocation, to see the deep desire she felt for her vocation, to watch her fun and cheerful personality has been such a wonderful blessing to me. Thank you for interviewing these two mothers. The truth that God is at work in and through them is evident to me by the fruit that I see in these women. I don’t yet have all the answers I seek to begin swimming the Tiber, but this interview and the work you do here is a constant aroma that continually calls to me and draws my attention back to look across that great river. Pray for me, please, that God would lead my family into all truth; my husband, our six children and myself. Thank you.

I think spiritual motherhood is a beautiful an important thing even in a lay context. I’m studying to be a deaf educator and there’s a woman I refer to as my “sign mom”. She was my sign language teacher in high school and she was so caring and compassionate while being so passionate about what she was teaching that I loved every moment of her class and we remain friends to this day. She’s a lovely but fierce woman and I wouldn’t be where I am today without her. People, especially men, need more mothers in our lives.

On the segment about our thoughts… i think it’s important to include the information that some people have compulsive thoughts that deeply disturb them and they don’t want or have control over. They aren’t responsible for those thoughts in a moral way. One of the most powerful tools for people experiencing compulsive and obsessive thoughts is “I am not my thoughts. My thoughts aren’t me. My thoughts aren’t my actions.” It’s very important for them to have that distinction. This is a true mental health condition and I just don’t want anyone to hear what the mothers are saying and think it applies to OCD.

Fantastic discussion as always. I agree with Mother Natalia that we want to be anyone other than ourselves because we think the key to interior peace and transformation has got to be some kind of external. Im totally guilty of this. If this could change, I could be a better Christian, I could fulfill my vocation better, etc. But embracing the idea that I'm exactly where God wants me to be, and that this is the place, and this is the person, that is meant to be transformed into Christlikeness, is hard. Boring even comes to mind. Such wisdom from these Mothers, thank you!

I think one of the worst experiences I have had in my faith was a few weeks ago, was having a young man after Mass as we're walking out telling me and my wife that my grandsons, 2 n 4, were a nuisance and that this is a house of worship and not a play ground(they were a bit noisy but werent running the pews or anything like that). I know my wife still struggles with what was said and I struggled to not be the old me, before going back to my faith. A scary violent prone brutish antagonizer. We will not stop taking our newly baptized grandsons to mass but I know that I have to double down on being a shepherd in my household...to my wife, my son, my step-daughter and her sons, the grandbabbies.

Do you take something for your grandchildren to be entertained with? Like there are colouring books with religious images for children. No one really complains about babies and children under 7 in my parish as they really are too young to fully understand what they are doing. And mind you i go to novus and vetus ordo interchangeably. No one talks bad about the kids. As you say your grandchildren just did normal child behavious nothing too bad like screaming or throwing stuff. Off course its always good to tell them God is there and they should do their best to be quiet and respectful. But im sure you already do that.

As someone who married a Baptist that later became Catholic, don’t marry someone and hope they become Catholic. I was engaged to a baptist but in my case it became a nightmare and we broke up. My current boyfriend is greek orthodox and yes i wouldnt even dream to make him convert because of me. Although he likes to go to mass with me and is interested in catholicism...so i just answer his questions and tell him to pray to the Holy Spirit. Its an individual decison. To be honest its weird because he feels drawn to catholicism while i feel like going out of it and become orthodox. Its not a simple whim i have my reasons. But i dont tell him about this. Because im more worried about him than me. If he really wants to be catholic then fine. Lets be catholic together and my doubts and issues i will probably die with them still unresolved

I am absolutely CACKLING aloud at the first few minutes of the interview - sounds to me like Mother Natalia had some things to say before the cameras got rolling, with regards to a certain debate over the female capacity for humor 😉 (I kid though - so happy to see new ep with my favorite guest!)

I thought it was beautiful when they talked about Peter and his masculine heart. I feel like we talk about the feminine heart a lot but to hear talk about the masculine heart was really beautiful and kind of struck me at how true that was.

Dear sisters I would love you to have a foundation here in the UK. Certain parts of UK there are Byzantine Catholic (and other eastern Catholic churches) but as far as I know no monastic communities. +

I don’t know about a specific interview, but I’ve watched 2 debates that Matt has hosted on this channel, between a Catholic and an Orthodox.

My biggest trouble with the orthodox tradition is that in my country they simply do not have liturgy in my language...and being Roman Catholic for 11yrs im used to have easy access to the church. Although honestly i see points in which the Orthodox are right. On the other hand my boyfriend is greek orthodox but not too religious and hes confused if he should just convert and go to the Latin Mass parish with me. But considering i dont feel the catholic creed is the good version (research filioque controversy) and also i dont believe the pope is infalible...i dont want him to convert for me because im not comfortable in the roman Catholic church. Do not mind my opinion though as this is deeply personal. I tell you the same i told to my boyfriend: pray for the Holy Spirit to show you were to go.

He never said women aren’t funny at all, he said female comediennes are not funny, which is an objective fact, of course women are and can be funny situationally and in the course of a conversation

4:15 : it's "culotte" ! It's a French word that literally means 'knickers'. Funnily enough, in French, we use the English word 'knickers' to refer to knee-length trousers. Such knickers are worn with long socks and boots to go hunting haha

Funny you mentioned about men becoming nuns. I seem to remember my uncle was once a nun. He was on trial in a court house once and the judge asked my uncle 'what's your occupation?' My uncle replied 'none' 😊😊😊
