This has always been my favourite Godzilla movie. Fun fact-I saw it in the movies (in the early 1980s-the small town showed old sci-fi films on weekends). I was probably about 7 or 8. The gang (my group of friends) were all boys except one girl (who I madly had a crush on even then). I remember her crying when adult Mothra died (it touched her (and me, I admit) especially how she managed the strength to lay a protective wing over her egg and had a last look at it when she expired) and I comforted her with her head on my shoulder. I wasn't immune to the emotional scene, but I confess, having her so close to me was great! (For some reason, I never went thru a "girls have cooties" phase-I liked them from as early as I can remember!) It's amazing how 40 years later, some memories stick with you. I also remember Godzilla's head catching fire (I thought that was so cool!) And I remember how stupid the general was in this movie. If he listened to his subordonnant and didn't demand the power increase, they might have killed Godzilla! I remember joking with that same girl that the guy who said they can't give anymore power was the Japanese version of Scotty (from Star Trek)

Thanks for posting this! FYI, the first screenings of GODZILLA VS. THE THING in the US began earlier than November. St. Louis, Baltimore, Oklahoma City, Detroit, and other cities in the Midwest and the South, started on Wednesday, August 26, 1964 - according to their respective newspaper listings. These are the earliest dates I could find, so far. The Classic Media version is cropped because they used the print broadcast on "Monsters HD," as it was the most complete (but still seconds short of the complete American International version). The Frontier Missile sequence is in the original screenplay, but was shot for the US version, as the sequence in the final draft of the screenplay is crossed out (at least in the copy of the screenplay I was allowed to inspect). Mothra was called "Modra" in the dubbing and omitted from the posters and advertising was done due to concerns of a possible copyright infringement C&D from Columbia Pictures, which released MOTHRA in the States two years earlier. AIP wanted to avoid any legal entanglements. In fact, they almost titled the film, "Godzilla vs. the Giant Moth" (a title that appeared in Variety magazine earlier that year in a piece about AIP's acquisition of the film).

oh that was interesting! I remember watching the Classic Media version and when Tarahada wakes up, I thought they just switched to a scene showing Godzilla outside the building. But now I can clearly see it was Tarahada looking through a window to see Godzilla coming towards the building! The scene was cropped to the point where I didn't even notice the window frames. but to be fair, I guess you can still see a little bit of the window but I didn't pay attention to it at the time.

Man that ending with the trailer was extremely nostalgic!

I believe the old Simitar DVD has the “Thing” cut in the correct aspect ratio.

I usually watch the US version because of the frontier missile scene. I think it's really stupid that they cut that scene from the Japanese version for such petty reasons. It's important in showing that Godzilla can't be stopped by the military. So for that reason I prefer the US cut.

actually, i saw an airing of the Japanese version on tv and the part where American weapons are hitting Japanese soil wasn't cut

I think the American version is better because of the missile attack Edit: both the American and Japanese version are good but I hate when the American version tried to get mothra out of the title card but I do think that the missile attack scene in the American cut is pretty good and badass ngl.
