Good information....after Quran all earlier kitaab validity terminated ..there is a incident where Holy prophet Muhammad pbuh snubbed one individual reading other sahifa....Quran is final book and gives answer to all queries ...we have limited information....Quran is supported with Sunnah and ahadees.....so I recommend not to follow earlier testiments

The point I am missing to understand about Ashab e Kahf is, whether they slept or time travelled, it happend through a miracle and not a scientific device. So both possibilities are there in my opinion. And I think this debate is futile.

Because of his ego. He is created from fire. Humans are created from clay. When Allah ordered him to prostrate in front of his creation because it was superior, He had a sense of ego and did not prostrate in front of the first human. That's where the enmity begins. He promised Allah that if he gives him chance till end times then he will prove that Humans were worst creation and not best creation as oppose to what Allah said. I hope it answers your question about the reason of enmity.
