hey guys, this really helped me. External Reset If you are unable to access the phone's menu to perform the standard reset you can attempt an external factory reset. Notes: When using this feature; everything is deleted from the device. Reset will require a minimum battery level of 25%. If you are unable to perform a reset, please charge for 20-30 minutes and try reset again. With the phone powered off, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time until the device turns on. Press the Volume Down button to highlight "Recovery mode" Press the Power button to restart into Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark. While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button. Use the volume buttons to scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button to select it. Scroll down to "Yes - erase all user data" and press the Power button to select it.

If You are stuck on NO Command Press And hold power Button And Press Volume up button.

Some people are commenting that when you get to the recovery screen, you see the "dead android" with "No command." underneath and no options. You don't mention the fix: once you get the "No command." screen, hold the VOLUME UP button for about 10 seconds, then hold down the POWER button (just once), and release both. The menu then appears and you can continue with the rest of the directions in the video...

If you get the "No Command" error wth 5.1, Push POWER button for 3 seconds and then just press once the VOL UP button and the options should appear!

Thanks for this. I had to press the volume up and the power button together to get the options to appear (after you press "Recovery" 1:36 minutes). I was a bit confused and thought I'd post in case anyone had the same issue :-)

this video helped me with my old motorola.....for anyone who has tried the vol up/power button on second screen (in order for menu to appear with dead android) and it did not work, I simply held down the vol down button then simultaneously pressed the vol up button and released both at the same time and my menu appeared! :)

My mom thought someone was hacking my phone when I did this. lol

thanks bro...i freaked out when it froze on me while i was trying to avoid a call from some chick getting on my nerves, i thought it was karma for not answering at first but then i stumbled into your video and as soon as i pressed those buttons it automatically restarted with no issues whatsoever!!! i cant thank u enough!!

You will lose all your contacts, but here is how you can save them... 1.before resetting, go to contacts, and press the 3 dots (top right) tap 'import/export' 2. tap 'Export to storage' 3. 'OK' to export contacts (it will tell you the name of the file eg 0/00001.vcf 4. plug in your charger lead to a computer and go to 'computer' from the start menu. 5. you will see your phone, click on it. (stay with me, nearly there!) 6. open 'internal storage' (you'll see a bunch of folders*, and one lone file named as above (vcf file) 7. Drag the vcf file to your desktop or.. (I recommend you make a new folder on your desktop, as you will be storing your photos etc here too) 8.By now you will have made a copy of your contacts to your computer. I strongly recommend you look in those other folders* on your phone so you can make copies of valued files, eg pics or music etc. Simply drag those folder to your desktop or new folder (name desktop folder 'MOTO' or something) You have now made copies of what is valued on your phone. open pics on computer to check you have them, once precious pics are gone, THEY'RE GONE!! so check they open. 9. You are now safe to reset phone. 10. after setting up phone, hook up phone to computer, get to stage 6. so you can see those folders, and drag tha vcf folder back alongside your folders. 11. open contacts, (empty) then press those 3 dots again, select 'import/export and 'import from storage' (it takes a few seconds) 12.check contacts YAY, YOU DID IT! 13. Lastly as pics are usually in DCIM folders, just drag from desktop, back into your DCIM folder on phone, or music back to phone. There maybe an easier way, like an app, but this took seconds and worked fine! I'm 'old school' sue me! lol Guys, we keep our lives on our phones, so for the sake of 2 minutes, save your pics often to your computer, as losing pics is heartbreaking!! If you got “no command “ for me I pressed and hold the vol up button and tap power once , other method is hold down power and tap volume up once

for the latest updated moto g , just tap the volume up button and power button a few times, it worked for me.

If you get the second menu without options and the ways listed in previous comments dont work try holding power for 3 seconds then hitting volume down, just worked for me after several failed attempts with the volume up button

for people having trouble to get past the 'no command' dead android screen..press power button and volume up button. It worked for me when i pressed both simulataneosly and held the buttons for about 5 secs.

I am able to get to the "fastboot" menu screen (using power and volume down) but after I select the RECOVERY option...I can't get to the android screen at all. I only go back to the Motorola screen. i did clicked factory set before watching this video because I've reset my phone before and I thought thats what I needed to do. when it powered on it said commserver started with a little red android icon. I opened it and it had some options i clicked one on accident and it would not let me back out. I turned the phone off and back on again. nothing has changed all my apps are still there. I want to try whats explained in the video but I wanna know what that commserver is about, cant find much info online.

I would suggest everyone to send the instructions to a laptop or tablet so you will have it in case you forget the instructions. I'm thinking about resetting my Moto G, i'm running out of storage, can't download anything. I wonder if this reset will free up the space I need as well?

When I am making calls or receiving calls, I am not able to listen any sound/ voice (including the ring while making calls) but at the same time when I am using Loudspeaker or headset, it works.
