Actually on old motorcycles it was very common especially the Indian to find the throttle on the left pre 1930s modern motorcycles anything built after 1933 to now all have had the throttle on the right side of the bike unless it is a custom job but all manufacturers worldwide put the throttle on the right hand side of the bike some people think it's like cars and having a left throttle on a motorcycle is a UK, Australia, or New Zealand or places like that where they drive on the opposite side of the road than they do here in the United States but actually it's not a geographical location thing for the throttle to be on the left hand side of the bike it was a manufacturer spec thing back in the day just look it up you have Google it's actually very interesting.
@recoilrob32425 күн бұрын
@@derrickpeek88 Yes...the controls have been on both sides over the years, but in the case of this movie....if you look at the lettering on helmets and badges the film appears to have been reversed which is a common way to fool the KZfaq copyright bot.

@@recoilrob324 I see what you're saying I actually didn't even notice that. Actually in the movie he doesn't win if you've never seen it. He is supposed to turn around a barrel and go back to the starting line to win as he comes around the barrel the bike fishtales and flings him off of it into the sand and the gas tank and a few other parts fly off the bike in the accident which he then takes it back to his shop and rebuilds the bike even better and that's the end of the race he didn't win. But Burt Munro did bring the bike here to America and set the fastest worlds fastest record for a motorcycle that is under 1000 cc that record still stands to this day. He set this record in 1967 at the age of 68 with a top speed of 205 mph the bike was a heavily modified 1920 Indian Scout. The motorcycle at the time of Burt Munro setting the record was 47 years old at that time. Here's a link where he tries to go around the barrel and loses the race. race.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gtV3Z6mGvby0pXk.htmlfeature=shared
@wrangler06522 күн бұрын
i never understood the driving to a barrel and turning around and racing back thing..a race has always been from the starting line to a distance and finish line..i know indian use to have races like nascar that went in a circle and they did whatever 3-5 laps. i say indian motorcycle had the races because harley davidson wasnt allowed to race in them because harley davidson was too fast and wasnt allowed to enter the race..if you watch the documentary 3 part movie on Harley Davidson, Indian motorcycle actually stole the ckutch design and a couple other designs that engineer William Sylvester Harley designed but didn't patent because of his sick with cancer wife at the time and Indian motorcycle owner had bought a HD to have his enginerrs tear apart and steel their ideas (imaginge that) what was f-cked up they sued HD for using the clutches that Harley designed in their motorcycles because indian had it patented..I'm a firm believer in if you steel my idea because i didn't patent it and then sue me for using my idea then you'll be buried in an unmarked grave
@derekspammerton529522 күн бұрын
@wrangler065 I think a lot of the point of the barrel turn is to make sure your motorcycle actually motorcycles. Anybody can put a big engine on two wheels. But you need to be able to make it cope with turns, too. If your motorcycle can't turn, it's useless. Thus the barrel you have to go around and return from. It changes what your vehicle specs need to match without actually changing any specific rules

So context: This man modifies and races his own Indian motorcycle in Australia. This race is a qualifying race to see who gets a paid trip to go to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. His indian is a bit rickety and needed a push start, everyone doubts this man, but his is in-fact the the fastest bike out there because he’s willing to sacrifice almost all comfort for top speed. He loses this qualifier because they structured it to have a turn around point which isn’t even realistic to how the actual races in Utah go, because his bike is so FAST but has VERY limited maneuverability he fails to make the turn and loses the race. He then has to pay his own way to America, a land completely foreign to him.
