The number one goal of any shootout should be to be 100 percent transparent with the reader. We want you to feel like you were the one riding the bikes. It is our job to layout the shootout to allow you to figure out what is the best bike for you. To that end we test each bike individually before putting them together. Of course, a shootout wouldn't be shootout without ranking the bikes from first through last. We understand that this ranking process can throw readers out of their wheelhouses. Faster riders have different requirements than slower riders. Riders with a good working relationships with their local dealer might want to stick with that brand. Have a garage full of Suzuki parts-good reason. Every bike in this shootout, regardless of where it ranks on the shootout hierarchy, is perfect. All six bikes have strengths and weaknesses (and one bike's weaknesses to some may be a strength to others).
As strange as it may sound, not every MXA test riders chooses to race the bike that he picked as the best all-around 250 Four-Stroke for 2019. He may admire the shootout winners attributes, but feels more comfortable on a bike that does something else a little better. It can depend on how tall you are, how much you weigh, the terrain you ride on, your skill level, what kind of tracks you race on, your budget, factory contingency programs or your favorite color. Here is our raw and unfiltered view of the 2019 250 four-strokes.

Why did not you mention anything about hrc launch control or the gear position mapping switch? Down played the Honda a lot on this one. Did your “pros” not realize all the stuff that’s on the bike to pick between 3 settings on how the engine performs?

I am a Honda fan boy, and it makes me sooo mad how they can't seem to figure out how to make a powerband usable. They are clearly the biggest company by far with a massive R&D budget. Maybe one day they will actually listen to their customer base. Great video guys - very well done.

Well that settles it. The big 2 have done their 2019 250 shootouts and Yamaha won them both hands down. I got my 2019 YZ250F and it rocks. I’m a big guy at 245 and I didn’t have to do squat to my suspension and it handles my weight like a pro and makes me look good. Thanks Yamaha for making a bike that a big guy like me can enjoy and kick butt on.

Agreed. I have a 2006 yz250. I can build an entire second engine for the bike for cheaper than rebuilding my "old" 2015 Honda crf450r. The suspension is WAY WAY WAY better. It's lighter. It's funner. It's less and easier maintenance. I wish the other Japanese brands would do it and force an update in Yamaha land..but at the same time, if it's not broken don't fix it. Yamaha did something very right in 2005 on that bike and I'd hate to see it disappear.

I don't know everyone, I'm seeing a lot of people saying they were too "negative" this year. Is that to say that you all love it when they say nothing but super contrived positive things about every bike and you walk away feeling like you just paid time and money to be advertised to? I'm no motocross pro, but this review, while more aimed at pros, sure, but I felt that it was simply more honest. I just liked that it didn't feel like typical magazine bullshit.

StandardFish450 Go listen to Kris keefer for an accurate shootout! He gets like 12 riders all different skill levels both male and female, tests the bikes over multiple days at multiple tracks... he does a winner for each day/track and explains why they won on that day at that track and how the bike felt. Because a bike can excel in certain conditions and struggle in others Then for his shootout he doesn’t speak or vote he just interviews the test riders and gets their feedback to how they felt the bikes were for them... it’s a completely unbiased shootout and he puts like 40 hours on each bike before giving a detailed review

When picking a new bike, open multiple tabs on your browser. Then go to motosport/rockymountain//bto whatever you use on each tab and fill cart with everything you'd need to rebuild the engine and do all of the basic bearings on the bike ie wheel bearings, steering, swingarm, linkage etc. I'd never owned a two stroke. Now I do lol.

Follow up.....could NOT be happier with my decision. I have about 10 hours on it now, and can’t find anything I don’t like. I am a tried and true Honda guy till death, but I’d say it had flaws if it did. All the bikes are really good these days, and 2-5 HP loss to one brand or the other really can’t be felt by me. Thank you for the video very informative but a lot of people out there riding are not at the level of your Riders they will not find these flaws that you are picking out this video is great for guys who are at the level of your mxa crew I don't believe that any of the bikes are bad I believe they all serve good purposes in different areas me myself I have owned several different bikes in the years that I've been riding as a weekend warrior which most of us are when I was shopping for a bike this year I was looking at several including the Yamaha but the Yamaha feels wide and heavy therefore when I sit on a bike and it feels wide it's not for me I like a bike that feels slim between my legs that tells me that that bike is going to be flickable nimble and it will turn a lot better than a wider bike so when I went shopping and priced these bikes they were all way too much as I pretty much already knew that but I went with the KX250 f it felt good and the price was right I got the bike for 6500 out the door took it home it kicked over on the second kick I wanted electric start but I didn't want to pay the price fuel injected bikes are not hard to start especially a 250 I'm sure next year they will put the electric start on but I am not willing to pay full price if you're looking to buy a bike Always buy when the newer models are coming out I bought an 18 when the nineteen's were just hitting the floor of the dealerships

In 1995 I bought a new CR 125R for $4200.00 out the door. Lighter & more powerful nearly 1/2 the price. Thrill to ride. Now with Double the displacement & almost double the price 23 yrs later, thanks all the magazines that jammed 4 strokes down our throats & eliminating 1/2 the field in the district level, you got what you got suckers. I saved at least $70k & I'm not alone on abandoning the sport that abandoned us 2 stroke riders. Congrats on surviving w/o us. Not too hard when you make the same building 1/2 the amount of bikes.
@se11459
@se11459 5 жыл бұрын
If you rode a 125 compared to a 250F you would soon understand how 4 strokes kept older riders in the sport. Much easier to ride. Also Yamaha and KTM never stopped building two strokes so you have no excuse there. You should try one!

Haha you're so misguided it's sad. It's only ruined if you let it be ruined. No one at the local level is stopping you from racing your 2 stroke against the 4 strokes. Enjoy your life without a motorcycle, the sport doesn't miss you.

do an all out 250 2 and 4 stroke shootout. let the paying riders see which is better for them. include a cost comparison as well with maintenance cost. then maybe the manufacturers would have to bring more 2 strokes back to the market. more fun to ride and cheaper to maintain. long live 2 strokes

@@mt1885 Because what do racing teams do? They rebuild the bikes their riders use after every race, regardless of whether it was actually necessary or required by the factory. It's literally something racing teams do in every motor sport. Drag racing, F1, GT3 etc, all of those cars have their engines rebuilt before and after every major up company race to ensure no issues and perfect performance from the engine. When you do proper maintenance to a four stroke, like regular oil changes and filter maintenance, they can go hundreds of hours without rebuilding any internals. I currently have 124 hours on my 2011 KX250F, and it's still pulling strong and great just like the day i got it from someone a year ago who put 7 hours on it. Motocross 2 strokes need to be rebuilt every 20 to 30 hours according to factory recommendations, and even the lower output, lower revving trail bike 2 strokes need rebuilds envy 60 to 70 hours. That's extremely constant if you ask me, especially since trail bike 4 strokes pretty much never need to be rebuilt. Here where i live, which is a shitty country where everything is more expensive mind you, a 4 stroke rebuild kit cost 599 dollars, that's everything you need to rebuild the entire engine, top end, bottom end, the works, while a 2 stroke rebuild kit of the same caliber costs 470 dollars. That's not ad big of a difference to me, so even if you just needed to rebuild the two stroke twice in the same time you need to rebuild a 4 stroke, it'll destroy the whole cheaper to maintain nonsense. Don't Eben get me started on the horrible fuel economy of two strokes that also eat at your pockets over the long run

Digging my 2019 CRF250r! It’s perfect as far as I’m concerned. All the good qualities of my ‘03 CRF450R without seeing God every time I got a little whiskey throttle. Still have my ‘95 CR250R and will die with it, but am glad I got another thumper. These guys are WAY off about the Honda too. Not everyone is an expert rider, and for a 54 year old rider/racer like me, it’s perfection. The suspension is amazing, and the power is spot on for an old B class New England Rippah like me. Went up to a 49 tooth sprocket in the rear, and added the Honda steering stabilizer,which got rid of any twitch I did have in the front end I just wish Honda would revive the CR lineup

MXA had to give the win to the Yamaha because is sooooo good but despite that, it represent it like Yamaha won because the rest of the bikes are not that good this year. How can 2019s 250 models be not that good? Witch year 250s generally were better than today? 2015? 2010? Why shootouts have to be so miserable and negative?

I remember one year - 80's or 90's - MXA did a shootout and decided to kill all the bikes. 'Yamaha blew it.' Said the same thing for every brand lol. It was a little OTT but admirable in some ways. I thought this was a great/ informative shootout!

E-start, while a cool feature, is a non issue on a 250f. If one of these bikes was the best at everything and was super fun, but didn't have an e-start, then people would complain. Flipping out the kick starter and kicking it is part of the ritual. Now if it were a big bore or a 1981 Honda Cr450, then yes I could see why people would want an e-start. But is it really that big of deal on a 250f?

In reality all of the bikes corner well I've swapped from a fc250 to the yz250 and they both corner really well, main bonus with the yz is the suspension and reliability

I mean I know it’s said numerous times in the comments but again if your just a weekend rider? Get a bike that you are most comfortable with these guys are pros and can notice every little detail just a guy who rides on a Saturday by himself or with his buddies will not notice a single thing.

"The number one goal of any shootout should be to be 100 percent transparent with the reader" Will a Dewalt drill not work for drilling out the air box on a 2019 KTM or Husqvarna (Huskerrrrvarna according to MXA and other non English speaking Americans) @15:13 only a Mikita drill will work?? Are you now sponsored by Mikita & Yamaha not KTM anymore??

Rubbish it’s not even 2019 yet, and you’re trying to tell everyone, which bike is best, we will see at the end of 2019, and then see who’s right !! Most people are loyal to a brand, while others choose comfort, like how they feel, on the bike. But it’s the best of the best, who will decide the winning bike.

GrowingDownUnder I don’t know why they don’t bring up the fact that the reason KTM and the Husk are slowly losing ground is because they were bought by an Indian (India) company that couldn’t give 2 shits about their product and will destroy both companies in the long run.
