Tasteful. Thank you for not feeling the need to add heavy metal/grunge/whatever the heck as a soundtrack. Great footage of the greatest era.

Classic. It sends a chill through me and makes a little misty eyed. Its okay because I'm going riding tomorrow and I'm 53 years old!

@@timsr.6706 I discovered the sport in 76 after Hannah came from "under a rock" and kicked butt until he broke his leg water skiing. I was a new kid in a rural area also, 12 years old, and that true story of individualism, how greatness can come from anywhere, set the tone for the rest of my life. But I have found out it is not a very common spirit anymore,---the "self". Now I did get fired a couple times for mouthing off like Hannah when I knew I was right. I didn't realize that when you are employed, you have to be the best in the world at what you do to get away with it. :)

wanna know whats cool,, I lived in Waggaman,, that's right during those years we just walked three blocks to the river levee,, down by the convenience store right there on river road.. my grandparents ran a concession stand during those races,, all weekend we got to be there way before the races started.. seen plenty of dirt fly,, bikes scream and racers soar....those were the days before the super dome.. my cousins still live in that lil place..I was there in the summers as a teenager spending the summers with my grandparents,,I just showed my second cousin this video and the other ones of the dirt tracs behind the levee,, and all he wants to be is a dirt bike racer ,, he had no idea how an old grandma (I'm 61 now) could experience some awesome things,, I guess kids nowadays think dirt bike racing only happened in their lifetime..Good ol Waggaman...life is still good..

I raced there for years before moving to California. I loved that track. It was right on the Mississippi River.

I finally got to see "One chance to win" here on YT, and I see a big river boat floating past, but the camera was low enough and I had no idea a river was there. "What the heck is that doing there?" :)

August 29, 1976 was my 20th birthday and I was just tagging along with my sister, Angela Shelley, who worked on the film with her boyfriend at the time, Charles Manuel. My sister wrote the narration script and Charles Manuel was the director and lead camera guy. Can you check the closing credits and let me know if you see their names (Angela Shelley & Charles Manuel)? I saw the film when it was playing locally here in theaters in the New Orleans area when it came out and their names were included in the credits then.

I remember riding that track. The first time it scared the crap out of me. It was a fast track. If you were going too fast out of the River bed you would blow the next turn. The jump would give you wings if you hit it too fast. What great memories I have of those years riding a Bultaco.

The best dirt my knobbies ever touched. Deep soft loam where you could drift a side slide for what seemed like forever. Banging a berm was like hitting a cloud. 30' high levees made for great aerobatic jumps if you wanted to show off. Raced there in 74/75 in 125/250 expert class.

Wow! I remember racing on this track back in the 70’s. XR 75 and then a YZ 100. Never to the level of these guys tho. Although I did get to see them race. Track was located on the batchure of the Mississippi River. Marty Smith was the man to beat back then in the 125 class.

We didn't know anything. We were kids. We thought days like that would last forever, and get better. I think they could have. What kid can afford a 13 grand bike on his own?

I started going with my grandparents they ran the jaycees food and drink concession trailer after I broke free of that when I really got into My teen years the group I hung out with would jump across the track from a high mound across the top of the riders as they came flying through and land down the low side of the embankment if we were lucky. Some in our group got caught and were thrown out but there was never enough fence to keep us out we always knew where the easy ins were
