After many long days of testing and racing all 7 of the major 450 motocross bikes; our hands are callused, our dirty air filter pile is over flowing, our bikes are well used and our conclusing on which 2022 450 motocross model is best has been decided. Motocross Action is a true to life magazine and media company that's been around since 1973. We test by racing continuously over months and months. Then we gather opinions from a multitude of test riders factoring each riders' personal biases. We'll think you'll find your winner in this shootout because the perfect bike for you is right here in the details. We spent the past 7 months racing these bikes, living with them, fixing what broke, and learning about each bikes' strengths and weaknesses. We have over $68,000 worth of motorcycles, weighing in over 1,600 pounds, and producing over 400 horsepower on the dyno! These our the bikes of the 2022 Motocross Action 450 Shootout.

Lol, true, but one thing that Suzuki have is a bike suited to a larger rider, I raced them for years because of that exact reason. They are softer all round though, as in the hardware, nuts and bolts, gears, and just in general.but I feel any person at a lower level than an A rider just can’t tell the difference between most of these bikes. Just my opinion. But yes they will be last next year😂😂 not too sure if this is true, but aren’t Suzuki, Kawasaki, and honda coming together as one to develop the electric bike for 2028?

Great job with the shootout! I was struggling between the FC450 and the YZF450 recently and ultimately pulled the trigger on the Yamaha. I have primarily ridden Austrian bikes since 2016, with the exception of my 2019 CRF450r (classic case of it's the right bike for some but it wasn't for me. I couldn't stand the suspension on the Honda...loved the motor though). I love the lowered suspension on the FC, as motocross bikes have gotten too tall, which definitely makes it feel more nimble in the corner. I had always thought the ergos and handling of the YZ450f wouldn't suit my style...and then I rode the bike. I love the motor, power tuner app. and the KYB suspension is the best stock setup money can buy and it corners so much better than people give it credit for. I run the sag at 103 and front fork height at 5mm (I actually like the handle bars in the forward mounts as well) and because the bike is so planted and comes into a corner with unrivaled stability, I actually end up cornering faster than I did on my previous Husqvarna...which was hard for me to wrap my head around. I also love how easy the setup is and I don't have to mess with air forks anymore. I have to do the WP Pro Conversion kits (cone valve) on my Husqvarna/KTM models to achieve a similar high quality feel and even then I still like the KYB more. Needless to say, I'm very impressed with the Yamaha.

I have always stuck with the Yamaha, always have and always will. Everything else just feels generic to me. Sloppy and not as tight tolerance wise. I’m a CNC machinist so notice the quality in the workmanship more than most. I feel it even more on their street bikes. The Yamahas just feel as though every piece on the bike has been manufactured at a tighter tolerance than everything else. The only one that I’ve felt compares is the Honda. The KTM I’d never even consider after seeing others have issues getting parts for there 4 to 5 year old bikes. I don’t buy a new bike every year. At best I may update every 4 but since I ride the YZ 250 I’ve not needed to update since 06!! I do have a 2013 though and don’t see buying another unless Yamaha makes a totally all new YZ250. Now that would be awesome and very possible being they just did a new 125.

@@jacobhendrickson8935 Why wouldn't you want to get the updated 2022 YZ250??? Every magazine has had fascinating results with lap times on the updated YZ250 because of updated suspension, chassis, and airbox/air induction! They kept that low-end grunt character but boosted power, feel, agility, and stability. :) I'd say totally wait a year or two, but if not seen by then just purchase this newest version of the YZ250 and rock it!!! It's an amazing and fun machine! Then purchase the new BRC YZM500 engine for it, and drop it in that chassis! 👌 Then you got 60+HP and 50+ ft-lbs of torque!!! Not to mention you can get all kinds of upgrades like Hygge Works Cone Pipe, CDI and map selector switch, decompression switch, high compression cylinder head, port & polish etc. And the engine can be fully rebuilt using CR500 parts! And did I mention this engine is less than $7k USD, and counter-balanced with a triple-blade power-valve!!????? lol Also everyone forgets the performance and reliability of the Italian TM Racing off-road motorcycle manufacturer! I've owned Suzuki, Honda, Husqvarna, Yamaha, and now my TM Racing EN300ES 2 stroke and this is hands-down one of the best machines I've ever had, and I've owned Yamaha, Husqvarna, & TM since 2016 - all brand new off the showroom floor, and all engine, chassis, and suspension modified. These bikes are so phenomenal that I'm even thinking of saving for their new 2022+ MX450Fi to add to my 300cc 2 stroke. But Honda & Yamaha always have a hold on me - it's almost family tradition with these two brands, as that's what my father and brothers all own, as well as the rest of our family. :) It truly is a great time to be riding!

I can attest to the bullet proof reliability of the Yamaha. I made a street-legal 2019 YZ450FX supermoto back in 2018 and still have yet to even check the valves or do a top end on my bike and ir rides better than it did new. All I did was change the oil every 8-10 hrs, air filter twice and clean/lube the chain. I haven't even had to adjust the chain! I rip the hell out of this bike on the streets and even rip it on the highway and I have not had a problem. It gets 42 MPG avg with all street riding. Yamaha is #1 to me, I love all of their bikes. I used to be a Honda fanboy.

Awesome production. Looking at getting a new MX bike for track work. I currently ride a TE300 for trails and some track. I would consider myself a Vet beginner, if I am generous maybe pushing towards intermediate. I ride mix of intermediate/vet tracks or sometimes the senior tracks depending on location. I am also 210lbs. I was initially thinking a Gas Gas MC350 or a Husky FC350, but I have never ridden a 350 and probably wont get the opportunity to try one. I rode my friend new YZ450F recently and loved the suspension but felt the power was too much for me. Wondering now if the FC450 would be more suitable given my weight?

I got me an SSR 189, which fit my needs perfectly. I’ve got about 15 hours under my belt, and am already looking forward to my next bike, which will probably be a KX. Idk if I would get me a 450, so it’ll probably be a KX 250. Maybe an SX. Idk all these bikes are so damn good. I definitely jumped into the world of riding at just the right time.

Cause if you notice they seem to out down Japan bikes. They also make it sound like the Yamaha is soooo big when other platforms did what I did measure across and there is no big difference it’s more visual cause of the air box on the Yamaha instead of a gas cap! Also look up wet weight the Honda is only 2 pounds lighter and same with Kawasaki there is only a pound or 2 difference between all jap bikes. Lol Yamaha won the shootout in other platforms. Also everyone I’ve talked to hates the air forks after riding other bikes they beat you up.

You ain't feeling 10mm, the lowering helps with cornering. It's not ment to aid with the height challenged. The thickness of a pencil aint helping anyone. It's a gross reference all the shootouts are missing the point on. The Husky tracks way better than the KTM and Gas Gas. Smoother is better, most Pro riders are complaining about bikes having too much power. Like the 19 Honda.

Bring back an improved 2015 frame , add 3-5hp, strip 5-10lbs i promise this will be best bike of the year . No bike is as fast on a pro mx track as a dialed in Suzuki guaranteed

Also on the mxa website: Kawasaki vs Yamaha 2021 "In short, the KX450 is a much more pleasant bike bike to spend time on, once you fix a few suspension, brake and set-up flaws. However, the Yamaha is considerably faster, more reliable and better suspended-and if you race motocross, those positive YZ450 traits pay bigger dividends than the KX450’s pleasant demeanor. Thus, we’d rather ride the 2021 Kawasaki KX450, but we’d rather race the 2021 Yamaha YZ450F. " Then why does the Kawasaki finish ahead of the Yamaha? 😵‍💫 I get shootouts are subjective, and would have accepted the fact that anything other than Honda, Suzuki, or husky finished first.

Usually with new models there not as refined and get better. The old model is the best version of it from KTM. Either way you'll get a good bike. 👍 Kawasaki is also a good bike again do you like what the magazine are saying about it? You'll probably need stiffer fork springs. SO obviously we can all appreciate all of the time put into testing and racing these bikes over several months, and the amazing production team that puts these videos together! That being said, there are a few flaws in this testing type. Firstly, the MXA test riders all seem to be pro-level riders which on one hand is good because they can feel out the bikes better than everyone else, but on the other hand, 90% of the audience are not pros and may have very different opinions about the bikes rankings and characteristics (for example, they rank the Suzuki last but a beginner level rider may love the yellow bike the most for its easy powerband), and it's not really fair to the different skill level of riders. Second, I understand that different companies profit by sponsoring these shootouts, but it is not accurate to just slap Dunlop tires and aftermarket bars on these bikes, because that's not how they're sold from the showroom, and just the tires alone can drastically change the handling characteristics of these bikes. Additionally, it makes no sense to weigh the bikes without fluids, because nobody rides a bike with no gas, oil, and coolant, and those can boost the weight of the bike by about 8-10lbs, depending on tank size. Again I love to see these videos and read the articles because MXA probably puts more time into these shootouts than all the other magazines combined, but there are still other factors to keep in mind for the average consumer that could probably be reflected better. Also, this may just be because I ride Yamaha, but I was a little offended when they said the blue bike is the one no testers want to race. Maybe it's because y'all get to ride hundreds of different bikes, and maybe it's different out there in Cali, but every race I've been to has more Yamahas than all other bikes combined, likely because of their bulletproof nature, reasonable price tag, and few major flaws. They're also not near as wide and uncomfortable as the non-Yamaha riders make it seem haha

Hey Steph, thanks for watching and for your opinion on this. Here's a few quick points responding to your comment. (1) The majority of our test riders are vet intermediates ranging from 30-60 years old. Those are the guys who race our bikes every weekend. We also have Pros on staff at MXA and we use Pros for all of our photoshoots and video shoots because they can make the bikes look better than our vet riders can. (2) We tested every bike in here with stock tires and we wore them out before installing new Dunlop MX33's. So we know how the tires work and each bike ranks the same with those tires. (3) We weigh the bikes with empty fuel tanks, but all other fluids (coolant, oil, brake fluid etc.) are all still in there. This keeps it accurate and that way the bike that has the smallest tank doesn't win "lightest bike" award and vice versa. I hope that clears some concerns up! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you appreciate the video!

I would like a bike for single track use mostly but a bike I can also take to the motocross track as well I will be fifty in a month so I’m going to take it easy at first because I’m not going to bounce right up like i used to after a crash

Not surprised by these results at all. Funny all the people chiming in about “working man’s bike” when trying to bag on the Austrians. A lot of weekend warriors ride these things off-road, not just track. The overheating issues on many of the Japanese bikes are hardly a secret. The new Hondas are pretty, but the Japanese have a long way to go if they ever want my money again. Sometimes it seems like they aren’t even trying. R&D teams just seem too far removed from production. 25 years later we’re still trying to make these Aluminum chassis work? 🤣 Josh races a stock KTM at a national. Throw a grand + at the Japanese bikes if you want to do that.
