Motoman robot unloading trailer

This video shows a MOTOMAN robot from YASKAWA unloading a floor-loaded trailer. The robot is mounted on a mobile platform that navigates into the trailer. Perception technology from Industrial Perception Inc finds the wall of cases (or boxes), then locates individual cases taken into account size and orientation. Next the robot picks the case and places it on the outfeed conveyor.
In this configuration, the truck unloader can achieve single pick rates of 600-700 cases per hour. With further refinement and optimisation rates of 800 -- 1,000 cases per hour are within reach.

I can unload around 900 to 1200 pieces an hour that thing at that speed would spend 2 to three hours in a 53 foot trailer which I can get done in an hour to an hour and a half by myself depending on what's inside it.

Most humans I know don’t move as fast yet folks think think this is slow. If I ever ramp a business up extensively again it will be entirely robotic and human free. I’d rather have the consistency of dependable work that doesn’t tire and avoid lazy freeloaders. 90% of the working class is lazy and don’t pull their weight. Anyone efficient enough to unload faster wouldn’t work the job anyways.

Down time for maintence and budget for fixing it depends on the company willingness to maintain it

this thing isn't super fast but who cares if you don't have to pay it wages and benefits and it doesn't take breaks

klazzikk Any mail or package service will need the speed over anything. We have a sort right before ours that deals with anything that leaves the state on a tractor trailer. If they aren't done in time we have to wait to start and then we have a window of 4-6 hours before the local delivery trucks need to be on their way. Dont get me wrong this will make my job not exist eventually but not yet.
