Motor neurone disease sufferer calls for right to die with dignity
Subscribe to the Guardian HERE: bitly.com/UvkFpD
Paul Chamberlain, a 66-year-old chartered accountant, has motor neurone disease, a terminal illness that affects the nervous system. Here, he explains why he has decided to take his own life - and why he is campaigning in favour of the assisted dying bill, which would legalise assisted suicide for terminally ill people.

He dealt with this with a lot of class and bravery, many wouldn't. Much respect to this man. RIP.

Keeping alive a human life without their wanting too is the ultimate indignity.

I've been through this with loved one. We made the best of life. He accepted better than I. We looked at options. Before we could make the choice, the one I know he wanted, he was unable to choose and I was left in dilemma. KNOWING!!!!! Enjoy the life we each have, the time and this man I hope n pray gets his wish. It's legal now where I live . Lovely man. I like his intelligent no nonsense view. I wish him n family well n every blessing n strength.

Yes absolutely. It's all about how that individual feels themselves. Each individual should be able to have what they want. No one should be deciding for any one else.

Who could honestly not have empathy for this man and not agree with his point of view? I certainly agree with assisted suicide and the right to dignity in dying for those that choose it.

If a pet is in pain we would do the humane thing and end it's suffering by ending it's life, I just can't get my head around why we wouldn't do the same for a member of our own species.

Because a certain percentage of what I legally have to call people want to force the rest of us to suffer apparently our lives are worthless, sadly not all beings with the label animals are euthanized a poor dog died today in terrible pain that had been bred by perverts to have muscular dystrophy and died with no pain relief what soever

He died only a couple month's after this filmed. He didn't commit suicide. He had trouble breathing and refused being ventilated. In theory, he did not take his own life the disease ultimately won. RIP PAUL

Thankyou for answering. He seemed like such a wonderful man. I'm sorry he had to go through that.

That he died only a couple of months after filming this indicates that the overall progression of his MND was 'relatively' rapid. My mother has lived with MND for almost 3 years now, and has spent the last 18 months of it in a state far worse than he was in here.

"In animal studies and in a number of individual cases of ALS in humans, cannabis has been shown to slow the progression of the disease, in some cases dramatically. Several patients have reported that using cannabis has enabled them to live from 5 to 15 years after the initial diagnosis was made and is much more successful in controlling the symptoms of ALS than prescription medications." - Dr. Alan Shackelford MD

Yes that's OK that it might help some however scripted Medicinal Marijuana is very expensive, not everyone can afford it.

@@NJSMKMMS Ppl n organizations , even doctors might surprise you. Put out your request. It's not illegal. It's the drug companies don't want people knowing the great benefits of this. For other similar diseases too BTW.

@@y.t.a180 Thanks so much for your kindness. I didn't mean I couldn't get access to it. I am lucky enough to live in a in a country and state that lets me apply for it, under certain conditions. I can also afford it and have been on it for years now. I just know so many people with all sorts of conditions who really would benefit from it, but just cannot afford it. Also lots of people that cannot get access to other more mainstream drugs because of price too. Not usually in my country but plenty of others.

Did this bill ever pass I wonder ? Only some states in the have this situation Where if you are disnoaed terminally I’ll you can apply to commit assisted suicide. Very state and country should allow you to take your own life humanely !
