For two days I am on the road in a motorbike and nature paradise in the heart of Germany: the Harz Mountains. A motorbike and nature paradise in Germany, it covers around 2,200 square kilometre and is mainly located in Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, with a small part in Thuringia. The Harz National Park, with an area of over 240 square kilometre , is a well-known nature reserve in the region. Besides the impressive nature, the Harz also offers cultural sights such as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Goslar and the Rammelsberg visitor mine.
In this first part, I ride around 230 km through the western half of the Harz. There are numerous motorbike tours with many stops, including Hahnenklee with its stave church from 1908 and the Liebesbankweg, an approximately 7 km long hiking trail through nature. Goslar attracts visitors with its 11th-century imperial palace and the Rammelsberg visitor mine with over 1000 years of mining history. Torfhaus, with views of the Brocken, is a well-known meeting place for motorcyclists in the Harz.
Whisky fans can also visit a whisky distillery in the Harz and stock up. In culinary terms, Kukki's pea soup, traditionally cooked in a goulash can, is an authority in the Harz and is served in a car park on the B27 between Elend and Braunlage. Clausthal impresses with the bright blue Marktkirche zum Heiligen Geist, one of the largest wooden churches in Germany and an important architectural monument of the North German Baroque.
