Lithium batteries always like to be "waked up" before starting. Bump the button 1st before starting and it will keep your lithium happy.

I enjoyed your video. I liked and subscribed which I don't always do. I think you answered a question that I have been looking for. "thermal runaway" Whenever I see someone talking about "Lithium Batteries" in connection to vehicles I immediately think of those videos of electric scooters, electric motorcycles and electric public buses catching fire and burning like a small volcano. I'm guessing that's what you mean when you say thermal runaway. If I'm understanding you correctly it would be great if you could do a video explaining the difference between the Lithium Battery sold for motorcycles and the lithium batteries in electric vehicles and why they don't have "thermal runaway". Thanks

I agree, my KTM 390 originally had a cheap Exide BTX9-BS which started having issues within 4 months of purchase of the bike. I replaced it with a NOCO NLP9 Lithium, which was about a third the weight, and had close to twice the cranking power, Dynamic BMS, and fit perfectly into the bikes battery cradle. It does not have the bump start feature, which would be great, but at $76 and a 5 year warranty, I am a happy camper. I do carry a Lithium Jump Starter, but having the bump start feature would be one less thing to have to carry. Thanks for sharing!

Hello Interbeing, at the price you oaid, I would go that way too. I do not carry a jump starter but have seen them used many times. NEVER on the bike of the owner. They are always jumping someone else's bike. If I was a nicer person, I would own one! Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank

Good comments on the battery choices Frank. I have lithium on the DR650 and KLR650 I'll get one for the V1050 in a few months. The Moose Lithium in the KLR has been flawless and dropped 9 pounds off my big girl. The DR650 has a Tusk lithium, and the first one went dead in 2 months, but to their credit they sent me a new one without even an exchange and I have not had any other issues with the new DR650 Tusk battery even after sitting 3 months it fired right up in the bitter cold of Phoenix🌵🥶. I'm sold on them. Happy Birthday to your better half, is it Parallel cones?

Hello Dave, Hello Dave, 9#! Thats the best single items weight saving I have ever heard of. I tried to buy a Tusk for my CRF250L originally, however, they were sold out. A real shame as the battery I bought was $40 more. I have returned two RMATV branded products for issues, and they treated me well. Have you considered Timfest 2024? It would be a quick trip on that super comfy 1050! Thank you for stopping by and commenting! - Frank

In years past Ive had batteries go dead overnight due to cold etc. In fact, i put down 249 miles on my bike yesterday. Battery is 5 mos. old on a bike with 7k miles on it. And this morning I woke up to 9 degrees. And the bike almost didn't have enough battery to fire. It was almost dead in the water and caught at the last breath. Its an AGM. We went from 48 degrees to 9 degrees overnight. It still should do better in my opinion. I've not educated myself enough on lithium batteries to make that choice yet. I do a lot of riding in weather in the 30-to-60-degree range. Will this be doable without issues with the lithium? Or is it just having them on a battery charger in these temps that makes the issue? I normally never put mine on charge. But just to be clear.

Hello Dave, lithium are not able to charge below freezing without shortening their lifespan. Higher quality lithium cna charge down to zero farenheight, however, I do not imagine any motorcycle batteries are of this quality. Technically this means the battery temp, not air temp. I ha e a friend's with heated garages, (I do not) and they will ride below 32, as the battery is above freezing when they start, and will not drop anywhere near freezing once the draw / charge cycle starts. - Frank

We just had a cold snap here in Texas (14 degrees F) and just for the hell of it I went out to see if my bike would start with the Lithium battery. It fired right up, however, the instructions say that if it does not start due to cold, to make repeated attempts to start which will self heat the battery and once warmed it should start. There is a warning that the BMS will not allow charging of the battery in temperatures below 14 degrees F, but will resume charging once the temp rises over the 14 degrees. It is very infrequent that I would be riding in temps below 14 degrees, so for the most part it is a moot point.

Hello, I happened to find your channel and was surprised how my interest alights with your interests. I have 2 questions - Q1. what lithium product do you recommend for 790? ATZ? I was thinking about Tusk Lithium due to its price. About the jump start feature - to be clear, does it save a bit even when the battery initially indicates it’s depleted? Q2. I plan to get the same rear rack. When you tie down your big bag (50L plus), do you find putting a bag aligned with the seat (so the whole bag area can be on the bike) is better than placing a bag crossed (so the middle section sits on the rack and both ends stick out)? Usually, I see people putting a bag crossed (for bigger sizes), then I find your NICECNC rack video, and you still align it. Is there any benefit of setting the bag up in this way? Thank you! Have a fun vacation.

Do you worry a low cost lithium battery (likely China made) may burst in flames while you are away? That is my only concern. I want to go lithium but can't get passed the idea of it bursting in flames one day.

Lipo4 formula+BMS do not have catch fire issues. It's physics. You are referring to pure lithium batteries without BMS like smartphones or appliances or EVs.
